Admin	Polygyny - Marrying multiple wives Posted : 2 Jul, 2013 07:08 PM Having grown up reading the Bible, I was never very inclined to believe that marrying multiple wives was wrong, and I will probably marry more than one wife if I am able to support them and their children. I have been told it was wrong, but as I grow older I have yet to see anyone give a satisfying answer about why they think that. I have been told that people did not know it was unwise to marry more than one wife until it was revealed in the New Testament. But I have read the New Testament many times, and I do not know what this is referring to. I have been told that the Bible records instances of polygyny, but does not condone it. But I have read the Bible, and seen it condone multiple wives. At the same time there are many things that the Bible does not condone that we still know are not wrong, such as riding camels. I have been told that a person who marries another wife does not appreciate his first wife. If you read the Song of Songs it does not allow this view. And since they do not give a reason why they think this, they could also say that a person who tries to have more than one child does not appreciate his first child, and I would have as much reason and inclination to believe that as I would have to believe their first statement. If God had said "Wives" then by the same logic you would say it is a sin to only have one wife. As it is you are saying it is a sin to be single. When I marry a wife she will be my "wife," not "wives," whether or not I am married to 139 others or not. When I marry her, are we not two people? Do we not become one? When I am with my wife I am with her individually, we are a married couple, whether I am married to another or not. A man does not fuse with his wife: they become one flesh by the intimate relationship God designed to be within marriage. If a person has business deal with someone, they are two partners in the deal, whether or not one of them has made several such deals already or not. It is an elementary part of language, which I have only seen questioned when people try to argue against polygyny. It is terrible if that is their only reason to condemn the saints. Post Reply

I did not know this issue was even thought of. What people do you speak of? A Scripture which I have not seen those opposed to polygyny explain, is this verse: And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. 2 Samuel 12:8 Post Reply
FocusIsEverything View Profile History	Polygyny - Marrying multiple wives Posted : 6 Jul, 2013 12:06 AM The bible isnt against multiple wives.......its against having too many as to become a distraction from god and not providing for your home.......my perspective is if a guy got one wife and shes doing what god requires from a wife and u as a husband and u got just enough to provide for ya fam then a second wife shouldnt be an option (unwise)..........but if your rich and can stay focused on god with more than one wife then thats your choice........personally I got my hands full with one wife......i couldnt handle two lol! Which is no doubt why Solomon was the richest man and also had the most wives. I also think this is why a bishop should only marry one wife. But he must marry, apparently for accountability reasons. Do you know of many that think as you do? You are the first (or maybe the second) I have met who thinks this way. I had not fully settled what I thought about the issue until I was brought to this point by reading the Bible. No one else helped me, they seemed either to have not thought about it, or could give no coherent reasons for what they believed. Post Reply
