"Hey, you must be religious, right?"

If someone asks this question, what would you say?

I found this post of what the world says, course the devil deceives people to stay in the dark, so don't let it get to you...

"The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel [is] wise." Prov 12:15

_______

Why do some Christians lie and say they are not religious?

Christianity is a religion, by definition that is what it is. Don't give me this "I follow Christ" :stop:l, the tale of Jesus Christ came from the Christian religion and its holy book.

They realize the falsehood of many church doctrines, and wish to disavow themselves from them.

To me, there is some intellectual dishonesty behind a statement such as this. They want to disavow themselves from doctrines while still having benefits of them, like salvation.

1. They don't want to start a religious discussion, or seem to be proselytizing (e.g., in the axiom, "One does not discuss sex, politics, or religion in polite company.");

2. They don't want to attract attention in an area where being a known Christian could cause them harm (e.g., in a militant Muslim dictatorship);

3. They don't want to be challenged by "militant" atheists.

I can like a couple of songs off an album without being a diehard fan and groupie.

I can support a political party without becoming a member.

I do know a lot of people who have a faith of some sort but don't buy in to the full religious she-bang.

Many are among the nicest people I know.

_______________

So I ask is Christianity TRUTHFULLY a religion. Is our worship to God religious?

John 4:23-25 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us."

Would religious be a good word to describe the Pharisee and Sadducees. Am I righteous because I religiously follow the rules and pay tithes, etc.

I worked for a Jewish family once, I am still very interested in the culture and finding more of an understanding to some of the traditions. The family religiously participates in temple ceremonies a couple times a year and carries out the instructions for atonement I think once a year. ing for something I'd ask questions during Hanukkah, their Holy Days, when they ate certain foods, were in before dark, when they went to the temple, etc, they knew when, they knew how, but nobody could tell me why. if you're into theater, maybe Fiddler on The Roof comes to mind.

How can I use the word religion to say I religiously brush my teeth at 7am every morning, I religiously leave for work at 8:16 every morning, I religiously wear shoes to work or I religiously call my parents every Thursday and then say I religiously worship Jesus..

What does Religion/Religious truthfully mean to God?

Religion is inescapable. Everyone is religious. Religion is any system of faith and worship. Religions have a god and an ethical structure. In Christianity, that God is Yahweh and His law provides the ethical structure. The idea that one can separate mankind from religion is silly. It reduces to a game of words/semantics. Even those that deny a god put their faith in and give their worship to something - usually themselves. They derive their system of ethics from something. This would be the religion of humanism. The question isn't really God or no God.......it's which god do we serve? It's not religion or no religion, but which religion?

You are religious either way. The difference according to this scripture that you have quoted is whether or not your religion is a pure one or an impure one.

*** Ummm...Yes...ifin you are Jew or Gentile and do what this Scripture says per the apostle James...Yahshua's brother...then you are religious...as for your comment about one religion being purer than the other has nothing to do with the Scripture quoted...however...referance within the Scripture is made to..."and to keep himself unspotted from the world"...which I believe to be (unspotted-pure) such as the sheep for the offering and of course the Ultimate offering...our LORD Yahshua...Purety comes from Within...not Without...Be Blessed...xo

I think the only problem I have with the word "religious" is that it can give people a false impression. Some people tend to think of religion as being a preferential thing you can change and that one is just as good as another. Whereas ultimately there is only God and reality, against which fluff-stuff will fall away. Not to say that religion is fluff-stuff, but false religions have no real value when compared to God. So, other than the possible misinterpretation of religion as putting God in a box, I don't really have a problem with the word myself.

Matthew 22:34-40 --- "But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
