Woe unto them...

Isaiah 5:13Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge:and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

14 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure:and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

15 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

16 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.

17 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.

18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:

19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it:and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil;that put darkness for light, and light for darkness;that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff,so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust:because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

25 Therefore is the anger of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them:and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Proverbs 12:1Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge:but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord:but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness:but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband:but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right:but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood:but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not:but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom:but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is betterthan he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast:but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread:but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men:but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips:but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth:and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes:but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 A fool's wrath is presently known:but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness:but a false witness deceit.

18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword:but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever:but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil:but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 There shall no evil happen to the just:but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord:but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge:but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule:but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop:but a good word maketh it glad.

26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour:but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting:but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 In the way of righteousness is life;and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Proverbs 14 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.

7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.

10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame

Psalm 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
