KNOWING THE SCRIPTURES: How to Read and Understand the Bible

Hi Jude:
The 'church',does not teach the people how to read, study or interpret the Scriptures.
Most people might not know that the Scriptures have been written in Hebrew,Aramaic, and Greek,as most will never go beyond the translations they are reading.
To understand the Scriptures one needs to be a believer in Yesuha,as the Holy Spirit will teach a person, and the Holy Spirit also uses people to teach and instruct others.
We need to understand that in the Hebrew, and Greek Scriptures there are no punctuation marks.
In the Greek, there are no capitol letters.
In the Hebrew Scriptures there are no vowels, they must be inserted.
There are a least 7 ways the Word of GOD can be understood.
1.Literally
The Word of GOD can be understood literally.
John 11:35 Jesus wept.
This is the shortest sentence in the Scriptures, yes Jesus literally wept.
2.Spiritually
1Corinthians 2:13 Which things we also speak, not in words taught in human wisdom, but in taught of the Holy Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.
1Corinthians 2:14 But a natural man does not receive the things of Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Corinthians 2:15 But the spiritual one discerns all things, but he is discerned by no one.
1Corinthians 2:16 For "who has known mind of Lord?" "Who will teach Him?" But we have mind of Christ. Isa. 40:13
3.Figures of speech.
Isaiah 2:5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
4.Parables
Parables are earthly stories talking about the Kingship and the kingdom of GOD Almighty.
Mat 13:1 And going out from the house in that day, Jesus sat down by the sea.
Mat 13:2 And great crowds were gathered to Him, so that having entered the boat, He sat down. And all the crowd stood on the shore.
Mat 13:3 And He spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold, the sower went out to sow.
Mat 13:4 And in his sowing, some fell by the roadside, and the birds came and ate them.
Mat 13:5 And other fell on the stony places where they did not have much earth, and it immediately sprang up because it had no deepness of earth.
Mat 13:6 And the sun rising, it was scorched; and because of having no root, it was dried up.
Mat 13:7 And other fell on the thorn-bushes, and the thorn-bushes grew up and choked them.
Mat 13:8 And other fell on the good ground and yielded fruit; indeed, one a hundredfold, and one sixty, and one thirty.
Mat 13:9 The one having ears to hear, let him hear.
Mat 13:10 And coming near, the disciples said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables?
Mat 13:11 And answering, He said to them, Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it has not been given to those.
Mat 13:12 For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have overabundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
Mat 13:13 Because of this, I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
Mat 13:14 And the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled on them, which says, "In hearing you will hear and in no way understand, and seeing you will see yet in no way perceive.
Sometimes Yeshua would give the interpretation, and at other times He would not.
Mat 13:18 Then hear the parable of the sower:
Mat 13:19 Everyone hearing the Word of the kingdom, and not understanding, then the evil one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is that sown by the roadside.
Mat 13:20 And that sown on the stony places is this: the one hearing the Word, and immediately receiving it with joy,
Mat 13:21 but has no root in himself, but is temporary, and tribulation, or persecution occurring because of the Word, he is at once offended.
Mat 13:22 And that sown into the thorn bushes is this: the one hearing the Word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceit of riches, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.
Mat 13:23 But that sown on the good ground is this: the one hearing the Word, and understanding it, who indeed bears and yields fruit, one truly a hundredfold, and one sixty, and one thirty.
Mat 13:24 He put before them another parable, saying: The kingdom of Heaven is compared to a man sowing good seed in his fields.
Mat 13:25 But while the men were sleeping, one hostile to him came and sowed darnel in the midst of the wheat, and went away.
Mat 13:26 And when the blade sprouted and produced fruit, then the darnel also appeared.
Mat 13:27 And coming near, the slaves of the housemaster said to him, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then from where does it have the darnel?
Mat 13:28 And he said to them, A man, an enemy did this. And the slaves said to him, Do you desire, then, that going out we should gather them?
Mat 13:29 But he said, No, lest gathering the darnel you should uproot the wheat with them.
Mat 13:30 Allow both to grow together until the harvest. And in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, First gather the darnel, and bind them into bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my granary.
When Messiah did not give the interpretation,He wanted the people to use
their understanding of parables to be able to understand.
Yeshua used agrarian terms to speak with the people as they were an agrarian culture, the people understood what an ox yoke was used for,and grass, vines, and branches.
For city folk these terms might present a problem,as Messiah uses everyday terms to speak with His people.
Mat 13:13 Because of this, I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
Mat 13:31 He put another parable before them, saying: The kingdom of Heaven is compared to a grain of mustard, which taking, a man sowed in his field;
5.Allegories.
Allegories are extended similes.
Mat 13:44 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to treasure being hidden in the field, which finding, a man hid; and for the joy of it, he goes and sells all things, as many as he has, and buys that field.
Mat 13:45 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to a man, a merchant seeking excellent pearls;
Mat 13:46 who finding one very precious pearl, going away has sold all things, as many as he had, and bought it.
Mat 13:47 Again, the kingdom of Heaven is compared to a drag net thrown into the sea, and gathering together of every kind;
Mat 13:48 which, when it was filled, drawing it up on the shore, and sitting down, they gathered the good into containers, and they threw out the rotten.
Mat 13:49 So it will be in the completion of the age: the angels will go out and will separate the evil from the midst of the righteous,
Mat 13:50 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of the teeth.
Mat 13:51 Jesus said to them, Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes, Lord.
Mat 13:52 And He said to them, Because of this, every scribe schooled to the kingdom of Heaven is like a man, a master of a house, who puts forth out of his treasure new and old.
Mat 13:53 And it happened, when Jesus had finished these parables, He moved from there.
6.Prophecy:
There are no new prophecies other than that which has already been given to us in the Word of GOD.
Prophecies happen to be of three types, that which has been fulfilled, and that which is being fulfilled, and that which will be fulfilled in the future such as the return of Yeshua.
There are Messianic prophecies all of which have been fulfilled in Messiah.
This talks about the Messiah being beaten for the people of GOD.
Isa 53:2 For He comes up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form nor magnificence that we should see Him; nor form that we should desire Him.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and abandoned of men, a Man of pains, and acquainted with sickness. And as it were hiding our faces from Him, He being despised, and we did not value Him.
Isa 53:4 Surely He has borne our sicknesses, and He carried our pain; yet we esteemed Him plagued, smitten by God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His wounds we ourselves are healed.
Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have each one turned to his own way; and Jehovah made meet in Him the iniquity of all of us.
Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, but He did not open His mouth. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a ewe before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.
Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from justice; and who shall consider His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living; from the transgression of My people, the stroke was to Him.
Isa 53:9 And He appointed Him His grave with the wicked, but He was with a rich man in His death; though He had done no violence, and deceit was not in His mouth.
Isa 53:10 But Jehovah pleased to crush Him, to make Him sick, so that If He should put His soul as a guilt offering, He shall see His seed; He shall prolong His days; and the will of Jehovah shall prosper in His hand.
7. Types and shadows.
Moses is a type of Messiah,as he was used to bring the people out from Egypt, the land of bondage.
Messiah delivers His people out from the bondage of sin,and this life.
Matthew 1:21 And she will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.
David is a type of Yeshua,as David was a king, prophet, and had worn the ephod which only the priests were to wear.
2Sa 6:14 And David was dancing with all his might before Jehovah. And David was girded with a linen ephod.
Ch 15:27 And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that carried the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah, the master of the song with the singers. David also had an ephod of linen on him.
David did also prophecy:
Psalm 22:1 To the Chief Musician, on the deer of the dawn. A Psalm of David. My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me, and are far from My deliverance, from the words of My groaning?
Psa 22:2 O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; and in the night, and there is no silence to Me.
Psa 22:3 But You are holy, being enthroned on Israel's praises.
Psa 22:4 Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them.
Psa 22:5 They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You, and were not ashamed.
Psa 22:6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of mankind, and despised by the people.
Psa 22:7 All who see Me scornfully laugh at Me; they open the lip; they shake the head, saying,
Psa 22:8 He rolled on Jehovah, let Him deliver Him; let Him rescue Him, since He delights in Him.
Psa 22:9 For You are He, My Taker from the womb; causing Me to trust on My mother's bosom.
Psa 22:10 I was cast on You from the womb, from My mother's belly, You are My God.
Psa 22:11 Be not far from Me; for trouble is near; because no one is there to help.
Psa 22:12 Many bulls have circled around Me; strong bulls of Bashan have surrounded Me.
Psa 22:13 They opened their mouth on Me, like a lion ripping and roaring.
Psa 22:14 I am poured out like waters, and all My bones are spread apart; My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of My bowels.
Psa 22:15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and My tongue clings to My jaws;
Psa 22:16 and You appoint Me to the dust of death; for dogs have encircled Me; a band of spoilers have hemmed Me in, piercing My hands and My feet.
Psa 22:17 I count all My bones; they look, they stare at Me.
Psa 22:18 They divide My garments among them, and they made fall a lot for My clothing.
Psa 22:19 But You, O Jehovah, be not far off; O My Strength, hurry to help Me!
Psa 22:20 Deliver My soul from the sword, My only one from the paw of the dog.
Psa 22:21 Save Me from the lion's mouth; and from the horns of the wild oxen. You have answered Me.
Psa 22:22 I will declare Your name to My brothers; I will praise You in the midst of the assembly.
Psa 22:23 You who fear Jehovah, praise Him; all the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and all the seed of Israel, fear Him.
Psa 22:24 For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from Him, but when He cried to Him, He heard.
Psa 22:25 My praise shall be of You in the great assembly; I will pay My vows before those fearing Him.
Psa 22:26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek Jehovah shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever.
Psa 22:27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn back to Jehovah; and all the families of the nations shall worship before You.
Psa 22:28 For the kingdom is Jehovah's; and He is the ruler among the nations.
Psa 22:29 All the fat ones of the earth have eaten, and have worshiped; all those going down to the dust shall bow before Him; and He kept not His own soul alive.
Psa 22:30 A seed shall serve Him; it shall be spoken of the Lord to the coming generation;
Psa 22:31 they shall come and shall declare His righteousness to a people that shall yet be born; for He has done it.
David was a shepherd,as Messiah also is a shepherd.
1Sa 16:11 And Samuel said to Jesse, Are these all the young men? And he said, There yet remains the youngest; and behold, he is feeding the flock/sheep And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him, for we will not sit until he comes here.
1Sa 17:14 And David was the youngest. And the three eldest had gone after Saul.
1Sa 17:15 And David went and returned from Saul, to feed his father's flock/sheep at Bethlehem.
Yeshua the shepherd of His flock.
John 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd! The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep.
John 10:12 But the hireling, not even being a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and forsakes the sheep and flees. And the wolf seizes them, and scatters the sheep.
John 10:13 But the hireling flees because he is a hireling, and there is not a care to him concerning the sheep.
John 10:14 I am the Good Shepherd, and I know those that are Mine, and I am known by the ones that are Mine.
John 10:15 Even as the Father knows Me, I also know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.
John 10:16 And I have other sheep which are not of this fold. I must also lead those, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock, one Shepherd.
Also the Word of GOD teaches us that there are three distinct person in the triune Godhead, from Genesis to Revelation.
There are many elohim, yet there is only ONE YHWH.
Blessings
By the way,the fellowship i had been with in Philadelphia,PA.
The elders had been empowered of the Holy Spirit to teach us how to read and understand the Word of GOD;Translating is now the next work.

Hi Jude:
Yep,am with you on the people needing to be taught how to read, study and interpret the Scriptures.
Have been beating that drum for years now.
Too bad the people are not being taught these where they go to fellowship.
Maybe this might get the people to ask why they are not being taught these important means to understanding the Word of GOD Almighty.
A good book on this subject, one that was used with the fellowship in Philadelphia,PA. is 'How to understand your Bible',the gentleman which had written this book was an English teacher in India.
This man T.Norton Sterrett he had broken down the Word of GOD according to the rules of language.
This book is available at Christian book distributors for $10.99,the web site is CBD.
A true story about this book.
I had been going to a fellowship in Piscataway,NJ around 1999- 2001
One day i brought a copy of this book to the fellowship in order to give it to someone.
The person i had given the book to looked at the book and says to me.
This book you have given to me,i had been discipled by T.Norton Sterrett, and i did not know Mr. Sterrett had written this book.
The man i had given this book to was living in America, but had been born in India.

Hi Jude;
I had forgotten the other little piggy,Metaphors; But what do i know, am just a lowly truck driver according to the world.
Metaphors describe something in terms of something else, so creating a picture which throws light on the thing described. So when Jesus said, I am the Good Shepherd [John 10:11] he was using a metaphor shepherd to describe his role and he contrasts his way of being a shepherd laying down his life for his sheep with that of others.
For example in Psalm 119:105, Lamp and Light are metaphors for the word of God.
Psa 119:105 NUN: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
