Below is my re published article from my web blog . Hope it helps clear the very evident confusion about this topic.

By Stephen Parr

These days you hear the word 'Anointing', or 'Anointed' used a lot in various churches, and by various people.

So what exactly is the Anointing?

In Acts 10:38 it reads : how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.(kjv)

Here we gain a clue. Jesus Himself is anointed with the Holy Spirit

In the book of 1 John 2:27 the Bible says : As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him.(niv)

So the Anointing teaches us about all things , yet another clue.

Jesus Himself tell us who teaches us all things, the Holy Spirit .

in the Gospel account of John, chapter 14, verse 26 the Lord says : and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and remind you of all things that I said to you. (ylt)

and in chapter 16:13

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Conclusion: Despite erroneous teaching to the contrary the Scripture itself interprets the meaning of the term Anointed. All true believers have recieved the anointing. The Holy Spirit, who comes once at the point of salvation.
