6/6/15 Sabbath Daytona SDB Church Pastor Wray sermon The Landmine of Slothfulness II Thess. 3:6-9
--- -- ---
Sloth is a word used to refer to laziness. Laziness is one of the 7 deadly sins. Sloth: Spiritual/emotional apathy. Neglecting what God said, being inactive. Not engaged in anything, refusal or carless in doing ones obligations. Sloth can also indicate a wasting due to a lack of use is a person, place, thing or skill. The lack of use deteriorates your ability.
The Bible says that when we are idle then Satan enters in. An idle mind is the devils workshop. Thru inactivity, one invites the desire to sin. We need work! Old folk used to say the idle mind is indeed the devils workshop. Laziness is not considered becoming in most traditional customs. Work is not a curse but a gift from God! God wants us to express our creativity and to glorify Him. God wants us to work with enthusiasm. God calls them sluggards that dont work with enthusiasm.
The word dejection is sometimes used for the word sloth. God wants the worker to show effort, not be a sluggard. Be diligent in your work. Slothfulness is a landmine that can mess with our Christianity. (Prov. 6:6-9, Eph. 2:8, Phil. 2:3, Col. 3:23, I Peter 4:10) Each of us is to use our gift to serve others. There are several cautions against slothfulness:
1. If you dont want to work then you should not eat! II Thess. 3:10: We are to glorify God with excellence in all that we do!
2. Slothful individuals are easy to recognize: The lazy lifestyle, procrastination, finding excuses, avoiding work and wasting time. Being neglectful and careless. This is the last person you would count on to do something. They never think of the future. God regards slothfulness and laziness as a rebellion against Him. God says its a sin of wastefulness. God wants us to do everything as work done for Him. Whenever we work, we are to give it our very best.
3. Slothfulness has consequences: We reap what we sow. You will reap a terrible harvest. It creates problems like trouble at work, at home. Trouble in every area of your life. Slothfulness gives pressure, stress and financial problems. Slothfulness causes pain, physical pain because their health is neglected.
4. Poverty: The sluggard has poverty because they didnt take care of their business. They didnt do their best for God. We should carry out every task with joy and zeal.
To stop being a sluggard and slothful believer:
1. Get Up!
2. Get up and Go to Work!
3. Work Diligently!
Whatever we do, work heartedly as for the Lord and not for man. The Lord will reward us our inheritance thru Jesus Christ. We should do our best no matter the circumstances. In all that we do, do it unto the Lord Himself, the one that we are serving. When we understand the work God has given us to do, it will change our attitude. Productivity brings a pleasing reward both now and in the future.
God will bless us now and later. On Judgment Day, God will say Well done my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will put you over many things. Come and share you Masters happiness.

As long as you ignorantly(you do not adhere to SCRIPTURE) keep insisting that saturday is the sabbath; I will continue to keep posting the bible studies concerning the sabbath. Thank you for giving me a platform:angel:
I provided a Bible study for all whom are interested.
Gods grace to you
Sabbath
Bible study on the Sabbath.
Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 31:13-17; Heb. 4:1-10
God's rest on the seventh day, following creation, did not set forth an ordinance men observed from the beginning.
It foreshadowed the Jewish Sabbath that was instituted after Israel's exodus from Egypt, and the saints' eternal rest (i.e., eternal Sabbath) in heaven.
Deut. 5:1-4, 12-14
The Jews were commanded to keep the Sabbath after God freed them from slavery in Egypt.
The Sabbath was not given to their fathers (e.g., Adam, Noah, Abraham).
The Sabbath was not observed by men until God commanded Israel (after crossing the Red Sea) to observe the Sabbath.
Ex. 31:13, 17-18
The Sabbath was a sign of the covenant God made with the Israelites, instituted after their exodus from Egypt.
Israel had not previously observed the Sabbath.
The Sabbath was not commanded to the Gentiles.
Ho. 2:11
Hosea prophesied that God would put an end to sabbaths.
God put an end to the observance of Sabbaths at the cross, at which time the Mosaic Law was abolished and put to death (Eph. 2:15-16; Col. 2:13-14).
Ex. 31:14; 35:2
Anyone desiring to keep the Sabbath must kill anyone in his household who profanes the Sabbath.
Ex. 16:29
If anyone keeps the Sabbath, he must stay at home. Therefore, he cannot go to a church service on the Sabbath.
Ex. 16:23; 35:3
If someone keeps the Sabbath, he cannot kindle a fire or cook food on that day.
Num. 28:9-10
Anyone keeping the Sabbath must have a Jewish priest offer an animal sacrifice for him.
Neh. 9:14
God made His Sabbath known to Israel, not to the Gentiles.
Rom. 14:5; Col. 2:16
Christians can observe the Sabbath if they choose. But, they cannot bind it upon other people and they cannot make observance of the Sabbath a part of the church's worship.
Heb. 7:12-14
God changed the law. We do not worship on the Sabbath as God commanded the Jews.
We must obey Jesus (Heb. 5:9) and worship as He commands, in fulfillment of His law (Gal. 6:2; 1 Cor. 9:21).
If we try to worship God as prescribed in the law of Moses, rather than worshiping as commanded in Christ's law, we are severed from Christ and have fallen from grace (Gal. 5:4), and our worship is vain (Mk. 7:6-9).
Heb. 8:7-13
Corresponding to the fact that we live under a different law than the Jews who came out of Egypt, we also live under a different covenant (Heb. 8:7-13).
The Sabbath was sign of the covenant God made with Israel when they came out of Egypt. When the covenant ceased to exist, the sign also ceased.
Men do not keep the Sabbath as a religious ordinance from God today, because the old covenant is no longer in effect.
Acts 20:7; 1 Cor. 16:2
The day of worship to partake of the Lord's Supper and take up a collection for the saints is the first day of the week (i.e., Sunday). This day of worship cannot be changed to the seventh day of the week (Col. 3:16-23; 1 Cor. 4:6; Rev. 22:18-19).
The first day of the week is the day following the Sabbath. The first day of the week is Sunday (Matt. 28:1; Mk. 16:1-2; Lk. 24:1; Jn. 20:1).
