YOURE SO VAIN, THIS AIN'T ABOUT YOU!... ITS ABOUT THE JESUS IN YOU!

Philippians Chapter 2:1-11 - New King James Version

CHAPTER 2.Verses 1-4. Therefore ifthere isany consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, beingof one accord, of one mind.Letnothingbe donethrough selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Verses 5-8. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond-servant,and coming in the likeness of men.And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient tothe point ofdeath, even the death of the cross.

Verses 9-11. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, andthatevery tongue should confess that Jesus ChristisLord, to the glory of God the Father.

My message for you this morning from the Lord. YOURE SO VAIN, This Aint About You! Its About The Jesus In You.

Introduction:

In 1972, the pop vocalist Carly Simon put out a song called Youre So Vain I will not repeat the whole song to you, but the chorus of the song says Youre so vain, I bet you thought this song is about you dont youdont you? the writer of the song is expressing her disappointment in her ex-lover, regarding how he spends his time thinking only about himself, and in doing so, their relationship is fast being destroyed because of his selfishness and failure to show his love toward her. Hes self-centered and self consuming its all about him, his feeling , attention he seeks, and his emotions but we have no one here who is or has been in such a one-way relationship as this.. AMEN?

The book of Philippians is a prison letter written by the Apostle Paul while in prison, as he anticipated his release from prison or his execution. In fact this letter is known as the "letter of joy" from the Apostle Paul to the church in Philipi that he had established. It was written to show his appreciation and love to the Philippian church for all they had done for him its a thank-you letter for their continued help and support, and also to encourage their spiritual and personal growth in unity with one another.

In Chapter 1, Paul writes about his sufferings and that through his imprisonment the Kingdom was increased. Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel(Philippians 1:12). Christians are to surrender their lives in service to Christ Jesus. And what should Christians expect in this life for doing this? Suffering. Paul explains that there are two things granted by God for a believer. The first, is to believe in Him (JESUS) and the second, is to suffer,For to you it has been granted for Christs sake, not only to believe in Him,but alsoto sufferfor His sake, experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me(Philippians 1:25-30). Jesus said,Count the cost...if you plan to be a true Christian disciple of Jesus there is a price to be paid(Luke 14:25-33).

Here we find Paul sitting in prison with his mind not on his own conditions, but thinking on the welfare of the church those whom he knew in the church were thinking and worried about him. And he felt the need to being them comfort and joy.

So Paul takes time to write the church a letter of encouragement, taking his mind off himself, what hes going through, not knowing if he was going to live or die. But Paul is thinking on others and how where he is, is effecting the member of the church who cared so much about him He didnt wait for them to contact him with their letters and cards of encouragement during his prison time he reached out to them and this kept his mind off himself and all his problems and places his love and thoughts on them

THE CHURCH WAS DISTRESSED ABOUT PAUL'S STATE OF BEING THEY LOVED PAUL, AND KNOWING PAUL WAS SET TO DIE BY EXECUTION, THE CHURCH GRIEVED OVER THIS. BUT PAUL WAS NOT TOO CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, HE WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHURCH WORRYING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM, REASSURING THEM THAT HE STILL HAD JOY, EVEN IF HE WAS ABOUT DIE. THEREFORE, HE WROTE THEM THIS LETTER EXPRESSING HIS LOVE FOR THEM. HE KNEW THE JOY OF THE LORD WAS HIS STRENGTH, AND NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM, THE CHURCH SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED KNOWING THAT FOR HIM TO LIVE WAS CHRIST, AND TO DIE WAS GAIN... AND THAT HE WAS CAUGHT BETWEEN WANTING TO LIVE FOR THEIR SAKE, AND TO DIE BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE WITH JESUS

I realize some of you think being a Christian or being a member of this church and working in the different departments, paying your tithes regularly makes you a Christian and the Gospel all about you but I say to you who think such YOURE SO VAIN I bet you DO THINK this GOSPEL IS about you. BUT This gospel aint about you, its all about the Jesus Christ ON THE INSIDE OF YOU!

How many of you sit worrying about someone elses pain or what your neighbor may be going through? Are you concerned about others more than about yourself?Where is your heart and mind during your time of troubles are you thinking more about yourself what youre going through, instead of thinking and praying for others who might be going through more and worse things than you will ever know?

We find in our text in Chapter 2, where Paul explains the benefits of believers in unity with themind of Christ. He teaches us a lesson about the humanity of Jesus Christ as He laid down His glory and became a perfect human man in order to rescue and restore mankind back to a relationship with God.

Look at Verse One 1. IF THERE IS ANY CONSOLATION - encouragement

2. ANY COMFORT OF LOVE - condolence, sympathy, consoling to ease the pain of others.

3. ANY FELLOWSHIP OF THE SPIRIT - sharing of the Spirit, or or value of relationship to Christ in your heart.

4. ANY AFFECTION AND MERCY - compassion or sympathy of caring for others

5. Paul's request, "fulfill my joy" . in other words, Paul is saying, make me happy in knowing you are in unity as a family of God. Make me happy and complete in knowing that you are in one accord with each other in the Spirit of the LORD.

Paul exhorts us, to be in one accord and of the same mind as Jesus.. Stop being selfish and full of conceit thinking youre more than someone else, thinking more highly of yourself than you ought... but be meek and encourage others better than you do yourself. Stop thinking so much about what youre going through and start thinking on what others are going through, which could be worse than what youre dealing with. see baby, I dont mean to hurt your feelings BUT, this thing aint about you its about the Jesus living on the inside of you!

The Apostle Paul talks about doing thing through STRIFE AND for VAINGLORY STRIFE- raising hell just because somebody knows more than you in a matter or knows how to do something better and different than you fighting and murmuring and complaining about Sister Lou-Lou or Bro Big-Little VAINGLORY- selfish ambitions wanting people to give you the praise and glory. Walking around talking about youve been in ministry or preaching for over 25 or 45 or 60 years, yet you've never invited anyone to attend church with you or given the call for salvation to not one person.. VAINGLORY boasting and preaching about yourself instead of preaching and boasting about JESUS! THE GOSPEL MINISTRY OF THE LORD, AINT ABOUT YOU!

If Jesus is truly living on the inside of you there will be no strife, or a need for vainglory. But there will be humbleness and meekness and encouragement toward others.. the outward showing of the character of Jesus Christ, a show of the fruit of the Spirit of God and the leadership of the Holy Spirit in control of your CONVERSATION, behavior and conduct.. You would be more concerned about others and their problems and needs than your own problems and needs. You would be more concern about others seeing Jesus in you, instead of having a need to try to impress others with how long youve in ministry or preaching, or how much money you've got, or what area of town you live, or kind of car you drive, or how many degrees you have behind your name... and baby, youre still cold in knowing who Jesus is you aint got no FIRE OR HEAT... you got so many degrees you still aint set nothing of fire! If You consider that this Gospel is about Jesus, you would see others as being more important than you see yourself, and other will see Jesus in you!

Paul exhorts us to "LET THIS MIND" meaning, let this humble attitude that Christ had of Himself be in you in other words, whatsoever things you do and say should reflect Jesus Christ in YOU!

I told you this aint about you its about the Jesus who lives on the inside of you And what was the MIND (attitude) of Jesus Christ? Look at Verses 6-8, it tells me that THIS MIND THAT WAS IN CHRIST WAS ONE OF MEEKNESS AND HUMILITY Jesus was God, but He came to earth as a man, not claiming Himself to be God He thought it was robbery to even equal Himself with GodHe didnt seek to have a reputation in the community or among the people in the church, He went about doing His Fathers business in a humble spirit in meekness.

Just in case somebody still don't get it, or in case somebody came in late and thought I was preaching about them... I'll make it very clear to prove to you that the Gospel of Jesus Ain't About You...

My Bible says here in Philippian chapter 2, in verse 8, that JESUS being in the form of a man, although Jesus was divine and He was the Son of the Living GOD, HE WILLFULLY gave up His divine position and became a man and presented HIMSELFHUMBLE before a Holy God who was HIS FATHER.. and came to earth .... this is PROOF NUMBER 1, that IT AIN'T ABOUT YOU!... some of you don't know what it means to be humble before God or no one else! You walk around here all puffed up, with you head all in the air thinking you're all that and a McDonald snack!...... you want give up a seat for a visitor.... you raising hell on your jobs, in your neighborhood, in the church with the preachers, in the choir, on the usher-board, with the deacons, in your homes with your children, your husbands or wives... you're just selfish!

Proof Number 2, that IT AIN'T ABOUT YOU!... verse 8 GOES ON TO says, that JESUS became OBEDIENT... Let's stop right there.... JESUS obeyed the voice of God in all things, If God told Him to go, He went, and if God told Him to stay He stayed. He was in complete obedience to the authority of His Father.Even His coming to earth was an act of obedience to His Father. His life and ministry focused on the will of the Father. That the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do(John 14:31). He followed His Father's instructions and commandments, not His own...JESUS WAS OBEDIENT EVEN TO HIS DEATH ON THE CROSS... baby, you ain't died to, or for nobody, not even died to your own sins! ... you haven't made any sacrifices for anyone... some of you will not follow instructions in obedience when you are ask to come help feed the hungry with us or come to Bible Study or to not sit in a certainseat... and what have you freely given to otherswhen it comes to you being obedient to God's word and to those in authority over you, and what sacrifice have you made of yourselfto help others?....so what's in your pockets?

Proof Number 3, that the Gospel message AIN'T ABOUT YOU!...two things that mattered to God... 1.Jesus was HUMBLE... 2. AND JESUS WAS OBEDIENT UNTO DEATH ON THE CROSS... and because of this, GOD HIS FATHER REWARDED HIM WITH A NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH! AND AT THE NAME OF JESUS.... AT THE NAME OF JESUS!.... AT THE NAME OF JESUS!... EVERY!... EVERY! NOT SOME!.. BUT EVERY KNEEL IS GOING TO BOW! EVERY THING ON EARTH, EVERY THING IN HEAVEN... EVERY DEMON IN HELL IS GOING TO BOW AT THE SOUND OF HIS HOLY NAME! JESUS! JESUS ! JESUS !...

YOU MAY NOT SPEAK HIS NAME NOW, YOU MAY NOT CONFESS HIM AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR... BUT ONE DAY EVERY TONGUE WILL SPEAK HIS NAME AND YOU WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CONFESS HIS NAME AND WHO HE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT!

YOU WILL CALL ON HIS NAME! YOU WILL SHOUT HIS NAME! ONE DAY YOU WILL CRY OUT HIS NAME! YOU WILL PRAY IN HIS NAME! ONE DAY YOU WILL BOW BEFORE HIS NAME.... AND HIS NAME IS JESUS! JESUS! JESUS!! JESUS! JESUS! JESUS!... OH, BLESSED BE HIS HOLY NAME NOW AND FOREVER MORE. AMEN!

SO DON'T BE VAIN THINKING YOU ARE MORE THAN WHO OR WHAT YOU ARE.... THINKING MORE HIGHLY ABOUT YOURSELF THAN YOU OUGHT TO THINK...THIS gospel AIN'T ABOUT YOU! IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS THE CHRIST WHO GAVE UP HIS THRONE AND RICHES IN GLORY AND CAME TO EARTH TO DIE A SUFFERING DEATH ON THE CROSS FOR MY SINS AND FOR YOUR SINS TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER... AND GOD'S ULTIMATE PURPOSE AND GOAL IS FOR US TO GIVE UP OUR SELFISH WAYS AND ATTITUDES TOBECOME LIKE HIM. ITS ALL ABOUT THE JESUS WHO LIVE ON THE INSIDE OF YOU! TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOREVER AND FOREVER, AMEN!

Very Good, You sound like Finney or John Wesley I agree completely. Something I always wanted to ask a room full of preachers is, how do believers get from were they are to being like Christ. How do I get the mind of Christ, sinless perfection. Selfishness is sin, so how do we get the fruit of the Spirit. We get filled with the Spirit and pay the price by spending time in prayer in his Presence and reading the word, the word is like food for your spirit and prayer is like exercise. As time goes by we loose self and get more like Christ, until the complete filling when sin no longer has a place in our life. We don't do that cause the love of things or the world or the flesh gets in our way. You have to crucify the flesh, when you start to pray everything will distract you. You have to plan ahead. were you will pray and when. Pray first thing in the morning and wait for his presence. Start out praying an hour a day, it will seem hard at first but if you stay with it, then you will find that after a while your prayer will get very good, you will feel his presence. Its like your struggling to pray and all of a sudden everything changes its easy to pray and you don't want to stop. If you go even farther, you will perceive that he is there waiting, that is why you should pray in the same place. You will find the Bible is easier to read and understand, you will not be able to put it down. Going even farther you may have an experience with the Holy Spirit, like feeling someone standing in front of you and being frightened, so you open your eyes and there is nobody there, you get used to him being there and all fear in your life is gone. You will have a glow on your face and you will have strange reactions from other believers. You see you have changed from the old man to a new creature and don't even realize it. Your thoughts are his thoughts, you are a witness by just walking into a room. I would like to tell you the rest but I want to write a book and I should save something. I see where the spirit filled group gets some of there beliefs and a lot of things have been made up, all denominations have things that man has added. Everything in the Bible is perfectly clear from having the presence od God, even the verses that talk about miracles, you will be a mature person and see all the not so sound doctrines that have been made up over the history of the Church. You may loose some friends and even family. You may here his voice and experience things I cant put into words that you would get the full understanding

Ella, so glad to see that you finally believe that all of Paul's wrings like Philippians are the inspired **WORDS OF GOD**!!

I Thessalonians 2:13: We thank God continually because, when you received the **WORD OF GOD**, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the **WORD OF GOD**, which is at work in **YOU WHO BELIEVE**!!

I Corinthians 9:21: Paul said, "I am not free from God's law but am under **CHRIST'S LAW**!!"

Acts 22:14,15: Ananias said to Paul, "The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know **HIS WILL** and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from His mouth!! You will be **HIS WITNESS** to all people of what you have seen and heard!

Acts 20:27: Paul said, "For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the **WHOLE WILL OF GOD**!

God chose Paul to write 14 of the 27 books in the NT of **CHRIST'S LAW**! And God chose Paul to give the rules for teaching and preaching in the church by Elders, Overseers, Pastors and Teachers in I Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, I Corinthians 14 and Ephesians 4:11-24 and other places.

Some of these inspired writings include:

** WHAT DOES GOD'S WORD SAY ABOUT THE PREACHING AND TEACHING OF MEN AND WOMEN IN THE CHURCH**??

Titus 1:6-9: An **ELDER** must be blameless, faithful to **HIS** wife, a **MAN** whose children believe... Since an **OVERSEER** manages God's household, **HE** must be blameless... **HE** must **HOLD FIRMLY** to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that **HE** can encourage others by **SOUND DOCTRINE and **REFUTE THOSE** WHO OPPOSE IT**.

I Timothy 5:17: The **ELDERS** who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of a double honor, especially those whose work is **PREACHING ** and **TEACHING**!

I Timothy 3:1 Whoever desires to be an **OVERSEER** desires a noble task. Now the **OVERSEER**is to be above reproach, faithful to **HIS** wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable and **ABLE TO TEACH**!!

I Timothy 2:11: A **WOMAN** should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a **WOMEN** **TO TEACH** or to assume authority **OVER A MAN**!

I Corinthians 15:34,35:**WOMEN** should remain silent in the churches, They are not allowed **TO SPEAK**, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about anything, they should ask their husbands at home; for it is **DISGRACEFUL** for a **WOMAN** **TO SPEAK IN THE CHURCH**!!

2 Peter 3:15,16: Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our **DEAR BROTHER PAUL** also wrote you with the **WISDOM GOD GAVE TO HIM**. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand {To unbelievers} which **IGNORANT AND UNSTABLE PEOPLE DISTORT**, as they do other Scriptures, to their own **DESTRUCTION**!

I Timothy 3:16,17: All Scripture is **GOD-BREATHEED** and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead and in view of His appearing and His Kingdom, I give you this charge: **PREACH THE WORD**; be prepared in season in out of season, correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear!!

I Peter 1:23-25: For you have been **BORN AGAIN**, not of perishable seed but the imperishable, through the living and enduring **WORD OF GOD**. For all people are like grass, and all their glory is like flowers in the field; the grass withers and the flowers fail, but the **WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER**!!

Welcome to the forum psalmnintyone, so refreshing to read your thoughts containing spiritual knowledge, understanding, and wisdom in the word. I do wish you the very best God has to offer you with your book... and may it be unto you YOU according to YOUR FAITH!... so get writing... lol ...

Yes, everything we need is in our spiritual manual, the Bible, pleading the cause of grace... but most who read the Bible, have the wrong motives and methods. Many DO NOT read seeking GOD and ALL OF HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and for God to show Himself to then as He has promised He would do if we seek Him out, but they read to either find contradictions or they read to find Scriptures pointing a finger to the sins and faults of others, because in all of their pharisaical hypocritical censorious self-righteousness they stand too close to the mirror to see their OWN FAULTS AND SINS.

Ella, so glad to see that you finally believe that all of Paul's wrings like Philippians are the inspired **WORDS OF GOD**!! Even though Paul believed he was the chief of all sinners it did not stop him from pointing out Satanic beliefs.

Ridiculous quote by Ella:

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST BEFORE HE EVEN ASCENDED INTO THE HEAVEN. EVANGELIST MARY MAGDALENE AND THE OTHER WOMEN WITH HER WERE TOLD BY THE RISEN SAVIOR TO GO (SENT-FORTH) TO GIVE THE GOSPEL MESSAGE TO HIS DISCIPLE., SAYING, "YOU GO, TELL MY DISCIPLES TO MEET ME IN GALILEE!" And the word tells us that she also spread the good news of Jesus to everyone who would listen to her throughout the city.

Actually Ella Jesus only spoke to Mary Magdalene just after His resurrection in Matthew 28:9,10 and John 20:15-18:

Matthew 26:1,9,10: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb... Suddenly Jesus met them, "Greetings," He said. They came to Him clasped His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell My brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see Me."

John 20:1,15-18: Mary Magdalene went to the tomb... She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize it was Jesus. Jesus asked her, "Woman why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for? Thinking it was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward Him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" which means "Teacher." Jesus said, "Do not hold on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to My brothers and tell them, "I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God." Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news, "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that He had said these things to her.

Tis is the very **LAST TIME** Mary Magdalene is mentioned in the New Testament. Jesus only told her to tell His disciples that she saw Jesus and that He was ascending to the Father and to go to Galilee where they would meet Jesus.

Jesus did not tell Mary Magdalene to preach the Gospel message as Ella claims. And Jesus certainly didn't tell Mary Magdalene to preach the Gospel in churches which would contradict the inspired Words of God.

Christ's Law is **ALL THE COMMANDS** of the New Covenant as recorded in the New Testament.

John 16:12-14: Jesus says, "I have much more to say to you, more then you can now bear. But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me because it is from Me that he will receive what he will make known to you!!"

Matthew 28:18-20: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to **ME**! Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.... teaching them to **OBEY EVERYTHING I HAVE COMMANDED YOU**!"

Revelation 22:16,18,19: "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to give you this testimony **FOR THE CHURCHES**!... I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. If anyone **ADDS** anything to them, God will add to them the plagues described in this book. And if anyone **TAKES WORDS AWAY** from this book of prophecy, God will take away from them any share in the Tree of Life and in the Holy City, which are described in this book!!"

I Timothy 3:16,17: All Scripture is **GOD-BREATHED** and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of Gods word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews Chapter 5.

It's REALLY too bad Richard doesn't meet ANY OF THESE QUALIFICATIONS IN SCRIPTURE THAT HE HAS POSTED... therefore, the question is, how can he try to TEACH something he himself is not qualified to do NOR has he been CALLED by GOD to do? ....

I, therefore say: "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." James Chapter 1

Richard, YOURE SO VAIN I bet you DO THINK this GOSPEL IS about you. BUT This gospel aint about you, its all about the Jesus Christ ON THE INSIDE OF YOU, if He is there dwelling on the inside of YOU!

You do WELL to know... EVEN SATAN QUOTES SCRIPTURE FOR HIS OWN BENEFIT AND TWISTED SCRIPTURE AGAINST JESUS... AS I'VE SAID, YOU CAN'T EVEN EXPLAIN WHAT YOU QUOTE IN SCRIPTURES... "But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! FOR SATAN HIMSELF transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works....

" I'm obviously not trying to please you or to be popular with men, but my supreme passion is to please God. For if all I attempt to do is to please people, I would not be the true servant of Jesus Christ."

Therefore Richard, It matters not what you post, you STILL CAN'T CHANGE MY POSITION CALLED IN CHRIST, NOR DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY CALL IN CHRIST... so stop wasting your time, you are powerless, have no authority and LOOK FOOLISH REPEATING YOURSELF WITH YOUR SCRIPTURES!

In conclusion, I MUST be on the right path just as the apostles, because my called position as an EVANGELIST has STIRRED YOU up out of jealousy and turned your world upside down!
