To those in the great GTA:

I live in Toronto and go to several different churches. The following are obstacles that I see in the social life of Christian singles:

1: We are busy people in Toronto. Few have 9-5/M-F jobs anymore and many have jobs that keep them from church most of the time.

2: Some churches are mono-cultural, some multi-cultural and some inter-cultural. Culture is a thing to be reckoned with.

3: We live in a big city. If a person lives by the zoo in Scarborough and another person lives in South Etobicoke and another person lives at Airport and Steeles, it can easily take two hours one way to meet in Central Toronto.

4: Everyone says, "don't talk about religion and politics" but these things matter. Canada is socialistic but not all Canadians are socialists. And there is a huge difference between Reformed Calvinists and charismatic churches.

5: There can be huge differences in financial status. I often go to church with women who earn three to four times what I earn. Does this affect relationships? Yes.

I grew up in small towns where people went to church together, did business with each other, went to the same community events, played games wth each other, babysat for each other often and - married into each other's families. That world is probably disappearing as we type so now what do we do? How can we bring unity back into our lives hear in Toronto? Any suggestions?
