- About Me
-
TLDR: My name is Shelby and I'm an adventurer and traveler looking for a good woman to grow with. I drink in moderation, don't smoke, and don't do drugs. I'm a good man with strong morals and I'm definitely not looking for hookups or anything of the sort. I am a Christian and look to the Lord to guide me.
Hello, my name is Shelby and I currently work as a government employee at a facility that produces our nation's currency. I'm a jack of all trades mastering my current profession. Previously I have worked professionally as a combat medic in the Army, communications systems technician, HVAC technician, oil and gas drilling (solids control technician & drilling fluids engineer), correctional officer at a maximum security prison, police officer, coin producer, logistics/transportation specialist, and production machinery mechanic. I love learning new things and advancing my career but the real prize was everything I learned along the way.
When it comes to dating I like to take it slow and establish a good foundation. I think it is important to have a solid friendship and let it grow into more. Worst case scenario, I gain a friend. I'm not into rushing or forcing anything. I've also learned to manage expectations. Instead of searching for someone who meets specific criteria, I leave it pretty open. Sometimes I meet great people I wouldn't have met if I had been too picky. I also don't judge a book by its cover. I enjoy talking to and learning from people from all backgrounds and walks of life. I'd like to meet an adventurous and open-minded person with goals and who constantly strives to be and do better.
I'm an extremely positive person and enjoy putting good vibes out into the world. There is negativity everywhere we look so I strive to be the change I hope to see in the world. That said, I don't enjoy spending my time with extremely negative people. It's really draining to me. I have a great sense of humor and can always find humor or a positive in every situation. I look to the story of Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16). It can always be worse and you can always make a situation better. We all progress towards our potential in our own way and at our own speed. I strive to make constant progress no matter how small and I hope to meet someone to grow with.
I was raised in a very strict Southern Baptist church. Our family gravitated towards Baptist churches that were more relaxed. As a teenager I attended a non-denominational church and really found my fit. My passion is and has always been in mission work. I've done mission work with churches, Christian organizations, humanitarian organizations and on my own. When I was younger I felt I needed to travel to other countries to be a missionary. Now I have found that being a missionary is a way of life for me and that I can be a missionary everywhere I go. I joined the Army in 2007 and deployed to Iraq 2008-2009. It was a huge strain on my faith. I struggled for years to find peace and spiritual direction. Today my faith is stronger than it has ever been and I continue to strengthen it. As a kid I didn't understand the importance of Scripture. Today I read the Word almost everyday and unlike before, it isn't a chore. The most significant thing I did for my spiritual growth was reading the Bible cover to cover in 31 days. My goal was 30 days but the experience was so amazing that the extra day is a non-factor to me. Reading that quickly, you lose a lot of the detail but get an amazing perspective of the ENTIRE "story". I highly recommend it if you feel called. I am a great example of God's grace and that no matter how far you stray, He never turns his back on us! If you are looking for an inspirational book on missions, Through Gates of Splendor is an amazing true story. I read it as a kid and instantly knew my calling!
