I believe relationships are the purpose and (should be) the priority of our existence: that everything else we do...from the day to day business of life to activities we love...are best experienced and enjoyed if relationships come first. This includes our attitude toward / relationship with all humanity or strangers ('Storge' in Greek: 'love for others'), our effort at being a devoted and loyal friend ('Philia': 'the love between friends'), our awareness of the greatest joy available to us in romantic love ('Eros': 'every blessing romantic love has the potential to bring emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and physically / sexually'), and...most importantly (or the previous three are CRIPPLED)...our 1.) devotion to knowing, pleasing and following God and 2.) doing our best to represent Him and be in unity with other believers ('Agape' or divine love, which brings us the best version of the previous three thrown in if we give it top priority).
After completing my education in Business Administration I became a (primarily) marketing & management consultant / contractor, while simultaneously being employed first in youth and young adult ministry (1988-1996) then adult education ministry (1996-2001 at a 4000 member church, so lots of opportunity to edify and embolden people), all while attending masters studies in seminary.
My three adult children are my joy, I have ongoing business and investment interests, and would like to ramp up my ministry involvement again. I am working towards completing two of several writing projects for which I received invitations from two publishers (based on proposals submitted a few years back: would love to tell you about them as both have a subtle but clear apologetic bent). I am happiest...'in my zone'...when engaged in good conversation, teaching interactively or doing something fun with my kids, or friends...or...??? :-).
I would like to do some travelling if I find someone special...mainly places of historical significance, natural beauty or cultural uniqueness...but I can also work on my writing projects and manage my other interests from a beach hut in Tahiti just as well as from the funky study / library in the attic of my house. It is my foretaste of heaven: a beautifully restored, 110 year old place looking out over a big, private, park-like backward. YES it is definitely a material IDOL in my life (ha ha) but, no more than a beautiful old church: it doesn't eclipse God like most temporal distractions...I feel closest to Him when immersed in it's atmosphere, in my books or writing, music playing and the company of my three eccentric but very affectionate CATS, Maggie, Hazel and Noelle (Maggie NEVER leaves my side...on my lap when at my desk, on my pillow while I sleep, follows me up and down the stairs, on the couch beside me watching TV, at my feet while making dinner...even in the BATHROOM, albeit never...like any self-respecting, emotionally stable cat...IN the shower or bath, just waiting beside it (Maggie was a half dead, weak and very sickly runt...rejected by her mother...literally no bigger than a mouse when we first found her & took her in 4-5 years ago: she endeared herself to me by her compulsion to snuggle into the nape of my neck and go to sleep (probably, I surmise, to counter her feelings of rejection and abandonment by her mother). She still does that, though she doesn't quite fit as well!
But I DIGRESS (I love to write and talk, but no more than I do to read and listen!)
Drop me a message and let's see what happens (?). God works in mysterious ways that are often unexpected...even counter-intuitive to what we are CONVINCED we want or need to find love and happiness. In other words don't let my average looks, shiny pink hair, very slight spare tire (working on that) or compulsion to solicit and facilitate sharing (both ways) rob you of my potential to change your life (and you mine).
Many in our increasingly 'drive thru / swipe left' culture...where 'hook ups' and pornography have (insanely) become normalized...focus on initial attraction, mistaking it for chemistry, and pay only lip service to the elements of a partner they 'claim' (even, albeit lightly, believe) are most important: personality, character, humility, compassion, wisdom and intelligence (inter-complementary but not the same) etc.. The true alchemy of love and romance...and its byproduct of exploding attraction and irresistible chemistry: healthy, exclusive passion, as God designed and intended it...comes from the unseen calculus of two spirits finding trust, respect, exclusivity, security and their greatest joy in the other.
That is why you see couples either 1.) married 60+ years...who look like stale pretzels...still acting like two smitten teenagers on their first date, as well as 2.) couples where one is (by modern 'standards') not very attractive at all, whereas the other is extremely attractive...but fawns over their homely looking beloved like they were hand-crafted for them personally by God.
Finally, it is only because these truths are so casually and widely ridiculed and dismissed that the blessing they mock so rarely happens, as verified by divorce rates ascending to 70% and unfaithfulness almost expected...by one or both in a relationship...before and after marriage. The TRUTH that nobody gets to know unless (or until) they adhere to God's design and will for 'eros': if faithfulness is not effortless and joyful to maintain, and the very notion of adultery does not seem sad or laughable, there is nothing even remotely close to true love present...just pretense and delusion.
