I have seen my share of loneliness in my life. For much of my life I was a "loner." Part of it was my choice at the time and part of it was because of the hand life dealt me. Either way, life was not easy for much of my life. (I am leaving out a lot of details on purpose. If you're interested to know, I will explain it all to you, some time). Then things started to change. Gradually, I began to see life differently. And, I began to see God differently. My whole outlook started to change. I began to see others in a different light. I began to see myself and others as important and not dispensable. I began to take more responsibility for both the good I had done and my failures. I felt that everyone was important, regardless of their background, their social status, or their financial class, or their race, or anything else that would divide people. I began to see that humans are made up of one race and loved and created equally by God. As such, I needed to not only treat myself with that kind of respect, I was to treat everyone with that kind of respect. With time and experience, I began to feel this was a labor of love, rather than just another duty.
People who knew me years ago look at me today and see a striking difference in the way I am now compared to the way I was before.
I say this not to point out all my changes made, but to give you an idea of the things I have learned over the years and the type of person that I need to grow together with me.
