I am pastor, living just outside of Calgary Alberta. I have lived here for about 2 years. A lot of my job is spent indoors and also with a fair amount of time in front of the computer, so I enjoy some kind of physical activity just to refresh myself. I like things like hiking, biking, camping, and running. I also enjoy board games and getting together with friends when I get a chance. I like to appreciate the simple things in life, and be thankful for daily blessings. I am a pastor now, but I also spent about 10 years as a teacher and before that was in the Navy for a little while.
I believe that Jesus saved me by dying for me, and I belong to him from now on. My life and destiny are in his hands, and he is really all that I need. I am looking for a woman who is like-minded; so basically, I am looking for a godly woman who loves Jesus and whose desire it is to live for him. Character is very important in a person, but there also needs to be a mutual attraction and some romantic chemistry to draw the two of us together. I would hope also that there would be an ease of communication between us and that we would understand each other well as we get to know each other. You do not have to be a competitive athlete, but I do admire a woman who is active and who has an overall healthy lifestyle.
God said: “It is not good for man to be alone.” I can relate! As we continue the biblical account, in order for Adam to be able to do what God had assigned to him, God provided Eve as a helpmate for him. Although there are many aspects to marriage, I definitely see an application from this passage and a heart’s desire for me: that I would meet a woman who would be able to support me in my ministry. Again, that would be just one aspect of our marriage, but I believe that this passage (and others) speaks to the different roles that God has designed for the husband and wife, which are equal in value but which are different in practice. Overall, I believe marriage is mutual, two-way full commitment, where God’s overall purpose is unity: “The two shall become one.”
As a final thought, I see marriage as a remedy for marriage as a remedy for selfishness—or at least for self-focus. Since I have been single all my life, my thoughts, my priorities naturally fall towards myself. I would look forward to the opportunity for growth and character when I begin to take another’s needs into account :)
