About Me
Me & My Faith
Though I'm an introvert (INFJ), I love people. My passions are discipleship and counseling, teaching, and seeing people discover the Love that the Father has for them. I'm a reader; some of the authors that have influenced my thinking over the years include Dr. Larry Crabb, Dr. Tim Keller, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Dr. Diane Langberg, Dane Ortlund (especially his book "Gentle & Lowly"; I can't recommend it enough).. I also enjoy some good historical fiction, and some good ol' books on history. I love museums of all types. I can also be found outside, hiking, walking, or sitting by or on the water as much as possible.

I've been a follower of Jesus for over 3 decades now. Despite the valleys, rocks, curves, and dark places, it's been the best decision I ever made (and trust me I've made a lot of dumb ones along the way!) I believe the gospel of Jesus holds all the questions of life that we ask, that all that our souls most deeply seek is found in Jesus. My church background has been wide and diverse over 33 years, giving me a broad view of the faith. I lean toward Reformed theology, but no earthly system of theology is perfect. We all get some things right, some things wrong. (As long as we get the most important, essential stuff right!)

In my 33 years of journeying with the Lord, there have been many long, dark seasons. They have deepened my belief in the absolute authority and truth of the claims of Christ while giving me deep compassion for people and the circumstances in which they live. I am less likely to make snap judgments, as there are few quick and easy answers. I believe the gospel of Jesus HAS the answers to every question of life, and I'm not afraid of the wrestling that often has to come as we seek those answers.

If you think you can automatically tell my beliefs by my profile, you just might be surprised. I tend to be much more nuanced in my views that most Christians. I don't fit neatly into the little boxes that we like to put people into--and I don't think the gospel fits into any box we put it into either. I avoid labels such as conservative/liberal/wake/woke. The chief characteristic that is associated with Jesus and the Father in Scripture is compassion (along with gracious and merciful), and that's what I seek to emulate.

Who I'm Looking For:
What am I looking for? A companion on the journey of life. I'm not your typical "dater" or "courter," as both of those terms mean different things to different people, don't really allow people to get to know the whole person, and neither are found within the pages of Scripture. That being said, Christian friendship is the basis for anything else, even if that's all it will ever be. What makes a Christian friendship? Obviously, a common faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. But it's also, as the late Dr. Tim Keller says, a "common pathos"--a common view of life and the world. Part of that is the struggles we go through. If you find it difficult to empathize with those who have deeply struggled, then we may not be a great fit. On the other hand, if you know what it is to be broken by the gentle hand of the Lord, know what it is to go through the fire and come out the other side, then we just might be a great fit--even if you come out feeling singed and more broken.

When it comes to marriage specifically, in terms of the type of person I'm looking for, I'll quote Dr. Keller again: ". . . choose a spouse with whom you are willing to confront the continued power of sin in your life, postsalvation and preglorification. A pretty face or potential high earning power will be of no help at all in facing the indwelling sin in your own heart. Choose someone who can see who you are meant to become, and who loves you enough to be part of the process of getting you there."

Distance is no barrier; it can be an ally in getting to know someone, when we are committed to open and genuine communication, seeking to know the Lord and each other. The Lord equips those He calls to be together with everything they need.

Note: I don't normally send winks. If I do send one to you, it means I couldn't send you a message because of the age range in your profile.
