Do ladies expect the guy to bring you something like flowers when you meet for the first date?

I agree with most of what's been said on here...flowers are not expected, but can be a really thoughtful gesture when done appropriately.

victory: Do a search for "the language of flowers". During the Victorian time period people used to give flowers specific meanings. Unfortunately not everyone agreed, but there are some common ones. A red rose means love, of course, so they might not be a good idea to bring.

Calla Lilly - beauty

Red Carnation - Admiration

Orchid- Beauty (for the Chinese it a symbol for many children)

Yellow Rose - Friendship

Tulip Variegated - Beautiful Eyes

Tulip Yellow - There's Sunshine in Your Smile

Violet- Modesty

I'll bring flowers!.....how they are accepted tells volumes about the woman....

Graciously accepted and appreciated even to the point of making a big deal out of it, like making sure they get in water right away.....Big points in my book!

Indifference, like could careless, or being skeptical ...... probably won't be be a second date.

* Always bring flowers, you can learn as much about a woman in one date as three...do the math:

25 dollars for flowers

or

200 dollars for two additional dates

Hmmmm....

First dates can be so many different things. You can have two people who have been chatting on the internet for months and are absolutely enthralled with each other before they finally get to meet each other. You can also have two people who just met at a Christian bookstore a couple days earlier and are grabbing a cup of coffee. Obviously, there are all kinds of inbetweens as well.

Depending on how well you know the woman, you'll have a better idea of how much you like her, and if you are really interested in dating her. At the point you would say you're interested in pursuing a relationship with a woman, I'd say flowers are appropriate on whatever date that is. I prefer 1-3 over a whole bouquet though. It says something very similar for less money and minimizes the chances that you'll look like you're trying to buy her affections.

It also leaves room for you to go bigger in subsequent dates. If you give her two dozen roses on date 1, how are you supposed to top that on date 2? And how do you top date 2?

Very good point, Tulip. Someone said you left and I'm glad to see that you are still here, your answers are very much like what my son would say~rational.

It could be over the top on a first meeting or still in the unknown zone, but I love to get them from a man who I'm in a relationship with and would never act indifferent about anyone giving me flowers.

My grand-kids bring me dandelions and weeds, you name it and I am thrilled. They always go in a vase and the giver gets hugzzzz! :yay:
