While Brandon's trying to figure out what "girl next door" means, I would like to know what the heck "curvy" is supposed to mean. Not block shaped?

I know BBW stands for Big Beautiful Woman. And I'd say Tulip is right here, it conveys a somewhat negative meaning. A woman who considers herself (and is perceived as) beautiful does not really have to use the 'beautiful' label.

So basically for me this BBW carries a message 'I'm self-conscious about having some extra pounds' 'I need to tell myself (or hear) I'm attractive'. Don't you think?

Pixy, unfortunately I am not as empathetic as to relate to the feelings of someone who goes through totally diffrent experiences :P I simply know what you feel because for many years I have been experiencing the same thing. It resulted in myself wearing baggy clothes - at some point I would do anything to make my bosom unvisible to men whose sense of humour/admiration was far from being subtle... It isn't always possible to change the way your body looks, just as it is hard to accept it. I have been blessed with friends who helped me with my self-esteem which is way higher now. I can dress in a normal way and I don't try to hide my body. But I still do get intimidated by some remarks.

I don't know what you think, but I would much rather hear no comments about my cleavage than hear words of praise/admiration as I am not looking for a man who would be mainly attracted to me because of my bust, duh.

But then should guys pretend they don't pay attention to such things if we all know they do?

If your husband only complimented you on your body, you wouldn't feel appreciated for the rest of you. If your husband only complimented you on your personality, you'd wonder if he was attracted to you. However, if your husband told you he loved your chest as a part of a general pattern of complimenting all aspects of who you are, I believe it would be much more of a compliment.

@Marianna- I agree w/ you about BBW conveying self-consciousness.

Regarding getting comments about cleavage, I would be glad to receive compliments from my future hubby. In fact, I hope that he's completely delighted with my chest =) But, I wish that all of the men who I'm not married to would cease the staring and crass remarks!

I think Tulip made a very good point, and I would venture to say the only person besides you that has to like your body is your future spouse, all others don't matter.

hahaha Tulip are you complimenting your own creativity so wonderfully revealed by you starting this thread? lol well done bro :)

Rabbit, I agree with you - all the others should not matter, but they do if they go undermining my self-esteem. I don't really wish for all of them to like my body or dislike it. But even if they do, above everything else I don't want them to let the whole world know about it. How embarrassing!

Well, obviously I deserve some of the credit! Hahaha. No, I just like seeing multiple people getting into longer discussions, especially when it starts out not-so-serious and ends up going a lot deeper than anyone would have expected.

I haven't been keeping up with the entire thread, but I believe it was mentioned that curvy usually refers to women with a few more pounds but that want to consider themselves beautiful. I agree to a point, but I've also seen profiles in which women consider themselves curvy, but do not appear to be even slightly overweight. The term seems to have different meanings to different people. Anyway, thats my two cents for this thread.

How is it a person might undermine your self esteem?
