So after seeing a lot of profiles with photos, I'm curious why women post photos of just their cat or dog, or of sunsets, etc (ie photos without them in it). As I'm not looking at guys profiles, I'm not sure if men do this or not, but I have definately noticed women doing. Any input as to why?

Again, just curious.

Part of it is just a protection. And sometimes they are shy. I originally did this, just post picture of either cat or flower, but have since shared on profile page.

Some maybe scammers.

Others, who knows, they may feel insecure about what they look like or embarrassed to be seen on an online dating site.

I haven't done this, but have definitely considered it. I was just telling someone a few days ago that I was thinking of pulling my pictures. My reason for doing so would be for privacy and protection. CDFF is not a private dating site, meaning that anyone can browse profiles and the forums without being registered or logged in. Profiles and forum topics both come up on search engines, as well.

It's hard to know where the line between safety and paranoia, though.

When I was on Christian Mingle, this guy recognized me on there from some pornographic pictures that I'd been forced to do as a child (which are on the internet). He contacted me because he liked the pictures and was of the incorrect impression that I would behave in a manner consistent with the various things the pictures portrayed. To make a very long story short, we dated for awhile, but then broke up because he was abusive. (I didn't know at that point that he'd contacted me because of the porn). After we'd broken up, he followed me off to this secluded beach one day and raped me.

SO... I'm a little gun shy with having my pictures on here, but I don't want to be all paranoid... And, the thing is, people could recognize me in "real life" too.

Nah, most guys don't use a flower for their profile pic. However, there are a lot of them that don't have a picture at all or who have a very low quality picture (too dark, too far away, blurry, etc). When I first joined the site, I wouldn't use a profile picture. I was concerned about safety. Then I decided it would be OK to post a picture and ran into a second problem: I didn't have any recent pictures of myself. The third quickly followed: exactly how does a person take a picture of themselves or explain that they want someone to take a picture of them for a dating site or for no particular reason?

I have talked to a couple of men who wanted women to get to know them based on who they were, not what they looked like. And there are a number of scammers without profile pictures.

Thanks for the replies. The protection/safety issue certainly makes sense. I guess I should have been a little more clear. I hadn't thought about the ones with just one photo posted which was not them. I was thinking about the ones where they do show a picture of themselves as well as a sunset or something else. But maybe it starts with a sunset photo and then the person adds one of them?

Anyway, thanks again. :)

Can't someone with your picture steal your soul?

I think there are a number of reasons people don't post a pic of themselves on a dating site, maybe they are not photogenic, or to photogenic, or married, or in a relationship, or shy...who knows? But some people post pics in addition to themselves, I think to kinda help establish a identity.

Men do it to or they post no photo. I could see someone posting pictures of their pets and I thought about that too. I have 4 photos of myself though. I believe you should be able to see a person, so I'm not much help Shawn!! LOL!!

When I see a pictures that aren't of the person, I glance over them like they're filler, just the same as when I read generic stuff in their profiles.

I've done it before, my reason would be, I just want to "take a break" from dating scene which in this case would be dating site. I felt it wasn't enough that I had to deactivate my account for a while, and I just put the pic of my puppy as my profile pic. Taking break is good tho =)

I had an actual picture of myself for awhile, but there was a guy a few months ago that said he copied all my pictures and put them on his computer so he could look at me whenever he wanted to. It creeped me out quite a bit, so now I just use a picture of a cat.
