What are your feelings and/or understanding and experiences with "true love"?

What IS and ISN'T "TRUE LOVE"? ... Isn't "LOVE" simply LOVE and ALWAYS "TRUE" ... the love we feel as Christians now, as God's representative to everyone, whether they are family, friends, strangers, or "that one special one" we have a romantic relationship with in our lives?

What's the difference between "liking" others and "loving" them? Shouldn't we "love" everyone, not just "like" them now, as Jesus called us to do?

I was just thinking about these questions on "love" and the words and feelings associated with it this morning and wondering what your thoughts, feelings and insights/wisdom might be on this topic.

Love, Steve

True love doesn't exist except in and through Jesus Christ. Therefore I pose this thought to your question, if you say you fell out of love you were never in love to begin with. All the hoopla with love is those first few moment (months perhaps) sometimes deemed as puppy love. The newness, the inability to see one's flaws and the hormones that are araging...this isn't love but the beginnings of lust molded together with the effects of attraction and no judgement infringed upon that attraction. Almost as though the idea of love is unfolding but truth is if it were it would last forever...now we know it doesn't. And why not? Because it wasn't love to begin with...we can choose who we like, always. To like connotates a decision from within our thought, do we like or don't we? I like chocolate cake, I don't like it's calories. We are commanded to love even our enemies. Love also is a choice, but most choose not to because then we won't be hurt I surmise.

What IS and ISN'T "TRUE LOVE"?

"The Princess Bride" wedding scene flashed through my mind here.....

Hmmmmm..... Well, I don't know. I believe you can fall in love with someone who is not the right person for you. Is that "true" love? I would not call it so, but others might.

What's the difference between "liking" others and "loving" them?

Liking is more of a choice, I think. When we love others, we are showing and demonstrating the love God has for us, that He pours through us, and so we are able to love others. This, to me, is a different kind (level?) of love than the love between a man and women who have been brought together by God to be man and wife.

Shouldn't we "love" everyone, not just "like" them now, as Jesus called us to do?

Yes, absolutely.

But Lamby, Peter Cook admonished concerning "Twwoo Wuv" and "ma-wage" while Steve asked about "True Love." I think they are different. When I think of "Twwoo Wuv", I am thinking more along the Tweety and Sylvester "Twwoo Wuv." When I think of "True Love" I am getting into Pepe LaPew kinda' love...two TOTALLY different angles. I mean, come on...if you know your Warner Brothers classic cartoons, then you understand. Now, if Steve asked about Koinonia, then I would DEFINITELY have to go with Foghorn Leghorn and Dog! ("Ah says, hey Dog, whatsa mattah with you, son?") Fellowship, sharing, community...yep; that would be Foghorn Leghorn and "Dog."

Wait! What are we discussing again?
