Seeing Grandma in her apron

Watching Grandma tap her cigarrette ashes into her apron pocket

Eating the cookies I associated with her - "Grandma's Chocolate Drops"

Usually, though, she came to visit us.

My grandparents house in Michigan:

My grandma's amazing M&M Cookies and ice cream/frozen yogurt

Going swimming at a waterpark or a small beach!

Sneaking loads of candy into movie theaters... and actually going to the movies!

My grandparents house in New York:

Seeing all my Aunts, Uncles and cousins

Playing baseball, kickball, football, soccer and red rover red rover in the backyard

Playing a game called Hack-a-back-a-beanstalk (I don't actually know how to spell it), which I thought my cousins made up until a month ago!

My grandma doing my hair like Pippi Longstocking!

Going to Jamestown Jammers baseball games with my grandpa

My grandpa yelling at all the kids about everything, except for my brother, sister and me because he didn't get to see us very much

During the holidays, my grandma's amazing fried fritters! They were to die for, and no one can do them like she did.

My grandparents live 500 miles away, so I only get to see them a few times each year. I have great memories, though, and since I still visit them regularly, I'm still making memories!

My earliest memories are of Grandma pushing me in the swing (a sturdy board hanging from chains over a huge limb on a camphor tree).

When I got a little older, Grandpa taught me to drive his tractor (really just an oversized riding lawn mower!). My cousins and I would hook Grandpa's small trailer to the back of the tractor and ride it up and down the road.

I'll never forget the go-cart that Grandpa build for us kids. We'd take turns riding/driving it around the yard, and Grandma would sit under the tangerine tree and watch us. Every time we passed her, she would have another fresh slice of tangerine to give us!

Then there were the peanuts...in the summer, all the cousins would help harvest the peanut crop, and get the peanuts ready to be dried or boiled. Such a dirty job, but oh so much fun!

My best memories from the past couple years are of playing games with my grandparents. They are failing health-wise, so instead of spending time outside in a garden or working in the yard, they piddle around the house during the day and play games in the evening. When I'm there, we alternate between Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Phase 10. I've gotten quite good at all three games...I have to be good if I want to win!

I LOVED visting my grandparents' house in my hometown of Detroit , Michigan!!! :hearts::hearts::hearts:

Lots of barefoot precious memories associated with each visit!!! Such as these, especially:

1) My grandma's Barefoot Scrumpious ... and THEN some!!! ... homemade cream pies and fruit pies!!! :eat::eat::eat: Mmmmmmmmmm, THE BEST I'VE EVER TASTED ... especially, My Barefoot Favorite: her CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE with HOME-MADE MERINGUE TOPPING!!!! :yay::yay::yay::applause::applause::applause:

2) My grandma working in her backyard garden, lovingly tending to all of her beautiful flower arrangements!!! :hearts::hearts::hearts:

3) My grandpa lovingly giving his red Pontiacs a car wash in the driveway outside the garage, performing this same "loving, pride and joy" ritual, at least, once a week ... whenever my grandpa would trade in his car, he always got another Pontiac, and it was always RED!!! :hearts::hearts::hearts: (My Dad worked as a Master Tool and Die Maker for GM, so we always had a GM car in our family, at first, usually a Chevrolet, then in later years, a Buick ... but my Dad and Mom each preferred to have their own car, with my Mom driving the Chevys and Buicks, while my Dad drove a Chrysler)

4) Family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at Grandma and Grandpa's house each year, in their basement, as I was growing up ... later on we took turns having Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at our place or my aunts and uncles' houses ... but these special occassions were ALWAYS such BAREFOOT FUN!!! :-) I rarely have an opportunity, as an ex-husband and bachelor now, to enjoy a family get-together like I enjoyed back in those "precious memory days", so it's good to revisit them sometimes, like now, prompted to recall them by a forum post question such as this!!! :yay::hearts:
