Why do some people here write "G-d" in stead of "God"?!

Usually on a Christian forum, spelling God as G-d is an indication that the one who wrote it is into Messianic Judaism, Hebrew Roots or Scared Name Theology. Sacred name doctrine is behind the use of G-d in all three of these theologies.

Especially the Hebrew Roots and Sacred Name movements also teach that the name Jesus is of pagan origin, and should not be used. They claim that the New Testament was first written in Hebrew and later translated into Greek, and that the Greek NT is unreliable.

All three of the movement that write God as G-d try to mix in elements of the Old Covenant with the New Covenant, making their theology into another Gospel.

Thank you! Indeed if people say that, they make their own gospel.

Some folks use the G-d to not take the name of the LORD in vain...however...GOD is a title and not HIS name...during translations from Hebrew God LORD Lord etc were substituted for the actual Word/Name and Referance as to GOD's character...in english we spell God's name as Yahweh or similar spellings...its from the Tetragram YHVH...Hope that helps...X <>< O

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

*****

Let's be careful about judging those who prefer to use G-d, instead of spelling it out. Some of those I have seen on this site are very much doctrinally aligned with the Bible and the Gospel of Christ.

Holding to traditions is not against the Bible. Also, if you study the observances of the Jewish feasts, Christ is represented throughout.

Exodus 20:7 speaks only about taking the NAME of the LORD in vain. God is a title. And even in a serious christian conversation we could in theory use the Name of God. Because that is not taking the Name of the LORD in vain. Taking the Name of the Lord in vain means using the Name of God in a unrespectful way.

I agree..however I've been informed the Hebrew Israel Jew does not see it the same way...all names and titles pertaining to God are Sacred...Holy and any use there of is breaking a commandment...There is a name recorded in Exodus...I dont recall where at this time...it is the utterable name of the most High...The Hebrew Israel Jew does not speak the name...EVER....and that Name is used as a "Sign"...Moses spoke it and Aron new what Moses spoke was from the Most High....X <>< O

The fact that Jews don't speak the Name, doesn't mean that christian cannot speak the name...

We all are taught differently as we grow as a child and as a Christian. There are things that my parents taught me were 'wrong' that as an adult I'm not so sure they are but out of respect for them, I would not do those things in front of them. In one church, they taught women should not wear pants/slacks...when in a ministry with that church, I respected that rule even though I did not think it was a sin for me to wear pants.

I dated a man who was Messianic for a while and he didn't eat pork...as difficult as it was for me, I didn't eat bacon or ham when I was with him.

Sometimes Christians hold to some standards to keep from being a stumblingblock to someone else. Those in a Jewish ministry would be apt to upholding some of the traditions, including not spelling out or saying the name/label for G-d.

God says we do not have to give up traditions and practices that do not conflict with His rules. Setting a standard for oneself higher than what the Bible teaches isnot wrong. Thinking you are better because of what you practice would be wrong.

In Hebrew we say HaShem for the Lord meaning the name. I write G-d because of my Jews tradition. I write Y-shua because that is His name and He is G-d and His name is above every name. no it is not sin to say His name or write it out I am a Jew, I am messianic, is what it is.
