"What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh." [I Corinthians 6:16]
Just as it was then, so it is now; there are a lot of people in the world who do not comprehend that marriage is not the signing of a piece of paper, but the partaking of the fruit of the marriage bed [consensual relations/intercourse].
Here is the Torah on a man taking a wife, the very scripture passage Shaul/Paul is referring to:
"And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife." [Exodus 22:16]
Notice that the Father did not say, "Oh, I think you need a piece of paper signed by the both of you, and notarized for you to be married in My Eyes".
If a man lay with a woman, and a woman lay with a man, knowingly, voluntarily, and willingly, they are married in His Eyes. Those three components are what constitutes a binding agreement, in heaven and on earth.
Historically according to the ways of man, there are three ways a man and woman may enter into the marital union, with the Father it is more stricter than that.
Here are the three ways traditionally acceptable to man.
1) The Perutah
2) The Ketubah
3) Consensual Union/Intercourse
The Perutah was an ancient custom where a man would publicly offer a small coin [a perutah], and hand it to a woman. If she accepted, and received the coin [today's ring] then they were married, contract closed.
The Ketubah was identical, except that it surrounded a written contract called a Ketubah. The Ketubah contained the "rights" a woman could expect, including property right, and what she could expect from the marriage.
Consensual Relations/Intercourse, that closed the deal instantly!
With the Father, it gets much more serious, and can occur with a look [if you are undressing her men], a promise [to get her to acquiesce and lay with you], and definitely with both partaking of the fruits of the union that is being acted upon in His Eyes.
KNOWINGLY, occurs, when you willingly entertain, without ceasing, the possibility of engaging in consensual union.
VOLUNTARILY, occurs when you both are knowingly and willingly engaging in communications that are of this mature subject matter.
WILLINGLY, occurs when you knowingly and vuluntarily remove your clothes and partake of the marriage bed.
Consider this. Let's say that you go into a store and buy a box of chocolates, and are looking at the box, saying to yourself, "I may not be able to afford this box of chocalates!" You stand there and think, "Should I eat a piece or not?" Before you eat a piece, you can possibly return that box of chocolate, if it has not been opened, and you have not partaken of the fruits of that contract. But the moment you unwrap that box, and dig into the candies, you just became the undisputed owner of that box of candies.
The same thing goes for a man and woman. If you unwrap that candy and dig in, it is all over. That is your box of candy from now on!
Abba YaHUaH (YHUH) considers a man and woman, partaking of the fruits of the marriage, to be joined at the hip. If you unwrap it, and really even if you merely think in your heart of unwrapping it, then you already are married, and need to go on with life, for it is a done deal.
Here is Yahusha/Jesus telling you of how easy it is to commit adultery; the same intent of the heart applies to marriage:
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." [Mattityahu/Matthew 5:27-28]
Pray that Elohim set a guard on your eyes, cause you to walk in wisdom when you speak, and cause you to never take the consensual act of marriage lightly!
"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." [Ha-Ibrim/Hebrews 13:4]

Maybe I'm a little slow, but you have spoken of the wife in several of your posts. What is the proper interpretation of the verses that use "wife"?

There was no word "WIFE" in either the Ha-Ibri [the original term for "Hebrew"] or Greek!
What was there in the original Ha-Ibri and Greek is the words for "woman" [isha (H) & gunaika (G)], and the knowledge of how you, as a man, are to deal with "a woman" in life, based upon Abba's law. The Babylonians mixed to two together, and out came "WIFE" and a set of laws connected to financial codes, which enriched the men of dark cunning which oversee "the law".
This is why I keep referring to the law, the Torah, as providing the supporting moral knowledge that commands you, as a man [ish], not "husband", on how you are to deal with a "woman".

The term associated with the 2nd Beast, "COMING OUT OF THE EARTH" deals with the system of corporations which began largely when coal, and oil and natural gas, and uranium, all out of the earth began. The USA dominates the latter throughout the world.
The United States Government, which tells you that you are free to worship, has a list of [ONLY] 26 acceptable symbols for a soldier to be buried under at Arlington National Cemetery, and you cannot be buried under another, even if you choose.. WHY?
Because the government only recognizes what they respectually control, and what they cannot control they kill it!
You have to remember that it was the "government" in Jerusalem, which collided with the Natzarim, or "watchmen" from Natzrat [Nazareth].

Calvin had promised seven years earlier that he would kill Servetus, if he ever came to Calvin's New Jerusalem:

What is hypocritical, is that it was the Catholic Church's doctrines on using the notion of someone being rescued from hell, by the sale of "Indulgences", coupled with their conduct of burning anyone to death who dared to disagree with their heretical doctrines and earthly kingdoms, which caused the reformation and the "protestants" to emerge in the first place. Geneva, which was alleged to be a protestant haven, then began burning people to death, under Calvin, for the sake of control.
During the first five years of Calvin's dictatorial reign of terror, in his New Jerusalem, thirteen people were hanged, ten were beheaded, thirty-five were burned at the stake, and seventy-six were expelled and banned from the city.
Now, today we have men of the government once again making money off of the things of Elohim. Abba YaHUaH (YHUH) wrote in His Law, that if a man lay with a maid and engage in consensual relations with her that they were to be betrothed, because they had become ONE FLESH, and now the Luciferians of government telling men that it is "permissive sex":

Who STOPS someone from being married? Who said that? Who are you talking about? What does that possibly have to do with "Be fruitful and multiply the earth" ?

Naz....I appreciate all of that. However you had already made your point that the word "wife" is nowhere in scripture. That's a non issue though because the concept of a wife is there.

Please go to Yeshayahu/Isaiah 4:1
"And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach."
Yeshayahu is not speaking of "tomorrow", when he gets up, nor can it be said that he referring to the earlier days of the creation when men ruled and women were truly treated as "second class citizens", because he is using a future tense term "THAT DAY" which refers to another Day in the future.
What does Yeshayahu mean, when he uses the term "IN THAT DAY"..?
We need to go to the B'rit Hadasha [New Testament] to get the answer.
Ever since Adam ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and did not die, men have thought that the Torah was stupid and worthless, for how can YaHUaH (YHUH) tell Adam, "in the day you eat of the tree, you shall die", and have it mean anything, especially after a 24 hour period had passed, and all know that Adam did not die?
Adam lived to be 930 years old, before he died, and so men count it, that "the Bereshit/Genesis account must be made up and absurd, because Adam clearly did not die with 24 hours.
This is why Peter teaches, pointing out that those who had thought that the Torah was goofy, and that "the promise of G-d was worthless, had not comprehended the spiritual mystery associated with the term that Elohim used with Adam, "a day". Here he explains what Abba was referring to, and that it was not a 24 hours period, but that it was a 1,000 year period:
"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day"."[2 Petros/Peter 3:8]:
Notice how Peter teaches men of the prophetic mystery surrounding what Abba was saying to Adam, knowing that Adam, was going to eat of the Tree, but not die in "a 24 hour period, as men had thought He meant, but which was pointing to the New Testament period, when Peter would explain why Abba had said this. The writer of the Bereshit/Genesis account which records the first half of this mystery, is Moses, who is one of the "bachiyr"; but the mystery would not be comprehended until the New Testament periosd, when Peter, one of the Natzarim, was to write of this mystery, proving to all, the link between the Old and New Covenants. This clearly proves that the Old Testament and the New are to be linked together.
Let's get back to the reason why Peter was explaining this mystery. It is because of what Yahusha/Jesus said to the disciples, when they asked "why do you speak to these men in parables?", and Yahusha/Jesus responded, "to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given" [Mattityahu/Matthew 13:10-14]
"And in them [the Jews of Judaism] is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
"For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." [Referring to Yeshayahu/Isaiah 6:10]
What Yahusha/Jesus is referring to, is the prophecy of Yeshayahu/Isaiah 6:10 and how it related to Judaism.
This proves that what the Natzarim were teaching in Jerusalem, about the Messiah and "natsar" meaning "root" and not branch [Yeshayahu 11:1] was what Yeshayahu was referring to, was true, and that those who were dominating the physical government of Jerusalem - called "Judaism", were hypocrites and pretenders who lied and usurped the scriptures to manipulate the people, and did not and do not know the truth, because they are the 1/2 part of Abraham's seed, of the Hebrew race, which were to reject the Torah, and not comprehend it.
Yeshayahu was not "a Jew", because he was of the tribe of Yudah/Judah, and he had nothing to do with Judaism, but a prophet of the "bachiyr", writing to the "eklektos", and especially Peter, who was to come. Only Peter could unlock the mystery of the sum of time regarding Yeshayahu's prophecy of Chapter 4:1. This is why we see Shaul/Paul writing:
"Now all these things [which are written in the Torah] happened unto them [the backiyr] for ensamples: and they are written for our [the eklektos] admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come." [I Qorinti'im/Corinthians 10:11]
Yeshayahu lived 740-700BC, which when you factor in the 1,000 years, that would make it well past the beginning of the Christian period, into [at least] the 8th century AD. But that won't work, with trying to meet all of the criterion which is part of this prophecy.
Yeshayahu gives us a very important clue, as to what time period he is talking about. He states, that these seven women that will take hold of one man, will be able to control their own lives and lifestyles, and that definitely was not possible any where in the world until the Equal Rights Clause of the 14th Amendment and the Women's Suffrage movement of 19th to 20th centuries, when "Women's Liberation" began, which led to women finally being allowed to vote in 1920.
Read of Susan B. Anthony and the struggles she endured, and of how she was arrested for leading protests, and even had cases which went to the United States Supreme Court, when she was fined for trying to live her life as she saw fit, but was jailed and fined.
So there we have it, the key to Yeshayahu 4:1, and the time period Abba YaHUaH (YHUH) said through the Ruach Ha-Kodesh, was to come.
In closing,
It is interesting when you consider the verbiage of Yeshayahu 4:1, "in that day SEVEN WOMEN SHALL TAKE HOLD OF ONE MAN," that it indicates that the Father is going to cause these seven women to comprehend the role between men of Abba YaHUaH (YHUH) and David, Abraham, and others who comprehend the Abrahamic covenant, and seek to have that son, that anointed man to cover them.
These women of Yeshayahu 4:1 are obviously not approached by "the man", but are led of Abba's Ruach [Spirit] to recognize the value of demonstrating the Word of Torah and the Abrahamic covenant in their lives, and its sanctifying and cleansing effects upon their souls, which when obeyed, remove the reproach of the system in which we now live, for it is unclean, and always has been.
If you had consensual relations, then you got hitched! You signed the contract in the Eyes of Elohim, by acceptance of, and the partaking of, the fruit of marriage.
