How can one know if he/she is called to be a prophet? And how relevant is prophetic ministry to our contemporary society? Kindly respond with biblical reference and evidence. Thanks.

The mark of a prophet is one who proclaims the word of God, one who is willing to go as God leads and the distinguishing quality is one who has forknowledge of coming events. In whom I am one. I have countless times accuratley for told of coming events or out comes. It is not a fabrication it just comes to me through the spirit of God.

I never considered it the gift of prophesy until a lady I was dating told me she knew I had the gift. I always just thought it as being intuitive. When I first began to have the visions of future events and didnt act on them and they came true because I was insecure to speak up.

But the frustrating thing about the gift is I really havent figured out how to truly make a difference with my gift. It seems that I am unable to change the out come of what I predict. I guess that would make sense.

I have turned to studying the lives of the prophets of the bible to understand the calling more. If you want to know if you have the gift you should also study them and see if you find any similarities of your life and theirs. Pray and ask God to reveal your gifts because they come from Him anyway. Pray and ask to make sure that you are not using your gifts for selfish measures but for Gods glory.

The He will lead you that you may follow.....

It truly amazes me what a person can believe when he does not read and pray over his bible. There are so many false teachers out there. Unless you are totally indoctrinated with God's holy infallible word you will follow after any whim of doctrine.

The bible is very clear once Christ came prophets and tongues ceased. We are to love.

"A prophet has to be 100% right."

I don't believe that is true, there are examples of prophets that were "wrong" because the prophecy was conditional. Can you show me in the bible where it says a prophet has to be right %100 all the time? Paul specifically says that prophecies will fail. The only other things I can find about prophecies are that if a prophet prophesies something that doesn't come true, then the prophecy wasn't from God. Also, if the prophet God raised up speaks presumptuously, saying "thus saith the Lord", the prophet should be put to death, but the prophet that prophesied incorrectly was still a prophet, raised up by God, that prophesied incorrectly. The only thing I can say would be %100 would be God's prophecies, but a prophet can prophesy incorrectly or without the whole picture. And I would say that the only people who are prophets, are the ones that God delivers the message to quite literally, just like in the bible. There are no prophets that I can think of in the bible that just "felt" like something is going to happen. Prophets dreamed dreams and saw visions and spoke to God and were visited by angels.

If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him (Deut. 18:22).

Hmmm... Intutions and preceptions can't be misunderstood as prophecy I think. And spirits? There are too many spirits, whi ch are the true ones? .........Love is the greatest of all but that doesn-t bring an end to prophecy and tongues. Mark 16: 16-18.

Yes, that is what the apostles did, we do not.

Then how do you reconcile 1 corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away?

Since Christ has come he does not need to do things as before. We now have the entire word of God to direct our paths. He does not need prophets, he does not need people to speak different languages to get the gospel out(tongues).

Yes, their is a divirsity of opinions in what you and others think in how those verses are translated and concerning gifts.

I can sit and give a defense but I will not because it will be fruitless. I know what you think can not be swayed. I know because I used to be like that knowing I had it all figured out.

I do not need anyones support in what I know and believe by faith to be true. I do not need the approval of others in who I am only Gods.....

I do not need to be involved with debates. So please expend your energies else where.

I was simply replying to this posting.

In Christ alone,

Michael

Definitely not meaning to debate, but raising a genuine question. ---what was meant for the Apostles are also meant for us too. So Prophecy and Tongues aren't meant to come to an end. They each have a role and the Scripture is very clear about spiritual gifts.

My comment was mostly directed toward dljrn04. Faith is unique to each individual and the scriptures are far more vast than we know. So when someone tries to challenge me thinking they have it all figured out I understand the position they are coming.

They have yet discovered that interpetation is just that interpetation.

That is great you have your opinions, I believe I will live by Gods word alone and not mans interpretation. Gods word is very clear.

As you should live by your interpetation of Gods word. Have I asked you to do differently?
