Judas Iscariot - chosen?

John 6:70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

****

Was not Judas Iscariot chosen...but rejected the true calling?

I don't think it's taken in another light, I know what you're saying, I just disagree with you:laugh:. All of Jesus' disciples LIVED with the Living Word for 3.5 years. None of them understood his mission. The Jews had the scriptures for thousands of years, and did not recognize Christ when he came. I'm not saying there won't be a difference between people who study more/less, I'm saying that it doesn't amount to much if they're interpreting it incorrectly. We can memorize the whole bible and still not understand. It should be obvious just between the two of us. You think I don't get it, and I think you don't get it. I do like the verse you presented, but it must be tempered with this:

John 16:12

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

God doesn't just blast us with everything all at once. He knows our minds and hearts, and he knows what we need to hear and what we can't handle yet.

Mat 17:16

And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mar 9:31

For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

"You think I don't get it, and I think you don't get it. I do like the verse you presented,"

No - I KNOW you don't get it, and you THINK I don't get it.

 Well, that's exactly what I meant! But it's still only you and your thoughts, sir. There are people who say I don't get it, but there are also many people who say I do get it. The trick is not to listen to any of them, only to the scripture!

Mark that is correct, and to add this we should always engage scripture in light of Christ in us, for he is always talking.

Thus we end with responses like you do her and there is no Jesus in some of it.

I saw no statement of fact presented by DLRJN...a statement of opinion presented in a mocking way.

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

*******

I will continue to apply the Scriptures I learned from my youth up and the studies I have participated in over my life...

IWA, you are presumptuous in thinking you study more than others. It's not always the length of time, but the quality of time...as well as what one studies.

The fact is Teach that you believe you know better than everybody including men who devoted their entire lives to reading, studying, preaching, and writing. I could post deep rich Biblically profound teaching from Puritan scholars and you would quickly do a keyword search, post up a handful of verses and believe you have some how shown more understanding. Your pride is unbelievable.

Now, you also commit a blunder in assuming that I am referring to myself specifically when I talk about those who study more and those who study less. I am demonstrating a principle. There is a point where ones knowledge of the Word becomes self evident just like a bodybuilder's body will speak for itself. Yet, there are still those who will read a few pages of material about bodybuilding and then walk into the gym as a "know-it-all". Nobody respects people like that. They either laugh at them to their face or they become the butt of jokes behind their back. All the while, they go on believing their own self imposed delusion.

I make no assumption on who studied more...IWA, your posts consistently imply that you have some great wisdom and no one else has done any studying. I could easily find profound teachings of men of many beliefs and post them...that doesn't make me any smarter because the same keyword search that I can use on an online Bible can be used on finding 'teachings of men'.

Yes, you can go along thinking 'your own self imposed delusion' because your presentations speak for themselves...show the true spirit of you. Your arrogance reads through loud and clear!
