Answer: The five points of Calvinism can be summarized by the acronym TULIP. Perseverance of the Saints - The precise ones God has elected and drawn to Himself through the Holy Spirit will persevere in faith. None whom God has elected will be lost; they are eternally secure (John 10:27-29; Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 1:3-14).
While all these doctrines have a biblical basis, many people reject all or some of them. So-called �four-point Calvinists� accept Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints as biblical doctrines. Man is definitely sinful and incapable of believing in God on his own. God elects people based on His will alone � election is not based on any merit in the person chosen. All those whom God has chosen will come to faith. All those who are truly born-again will persevere in their faith. As for Limited Atonement, however, four-point Calvinists believe that atonement in unlimited, arguing that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, not just for the sins of the elect. �And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world� (1 John 2:2). Other verses in opposition to limited atonement are John 1:29; 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:6; and 2 Peter 2:1.
The five-point Calvinists, however, see problems with four-point Calvinism. First, they argue, if Total Depravity is true, then Unlimited Atonement cannot possibly be true because, if Jesus died for the sins of every person, then whether or not His death is applicable to an individual depends on whether or not that person �accepts� Christ. But as we have seen from the above description of Total Depravity, man in his natural state has no capacity whatsoever to choose God, nor does he want to. At best, it's only possible that God chooses some to directly regenerate or reject for His purposes, but even that does not preclude faith in every other circumstance, and it also does not mean that they will never fall away. God did exactly that with Israel, and they fell away. The bible is extremely clear that belief is necessary for salvation. Predestination and foreknowledge are parts of God's workings that we have almost no insight into. To me, the bible is absolutely clear, it's possible to hear and believe, it's possible to reject or fall into unbelief.

I didn't even exhaust all the options for searching or post all the verses. The bible is filled with parables and examples of this. Verses that define predestination are limited and easily explained by the "foreknowledge" of God.

God calls everyone because the first people he called rejected him. That should be clearer than anything. Even a man that made it into the wedding feast was rejected. The examples are practically endless. The people who God "hardens", typically already rejected the truth and already have hard hearts and blind eyes. There are a very few examples where God directly intervenes and even then, a few of the verses imply that if God had not directly intereved, the people whose hearts he did harden may have believed. God had to step in to make sure they DIDN'T believe. You can interpret the motives behind that how you will, but why would God need to do that?

I appreciate the scope of your responses. However, they are virtually impossible to respond to without exegeting half of the Bible. I would like to make a suggestion that I believe would make it easier on all us. How about responding with something like this, " I believe there are many passages that contradict _______. Here are just a few for discussion." " I will be happy to provide additional (if necessary) as we move further into the discussion" You might even list out the additional verses by reference only that you believe support your hypothesis for those who are inclined to investigate deeper.
What I am seeking to do here is to limit an individual discussion to a length that everyone can live with and benefit from. Often times it is really only necessary to bring understanding to one passage in order to unlock understanding of many others.
I believe that wrestling with passages of scripture one or two at a time will be of greater benefit to all of the readers. I would be happy to try to adhere to the same principle.

**Absolutely not. Unfortunately, there will be many more who are punished than will be rewarded. God will not wait forever, there will be a judgment, and the parable of the 10 virgins is a good example of how it will go down, even for those who claim to be Christians. In the parable, half didn't made it, because they were not "ready". But, for an example, give the parable of the prodigal son a good read. Who represented God in that parable? The father? What was the father doing while his son was out wasting his inheritance? And of course, yes, God works to bring us to him, the parable of the sower is the perfect example. He spreads the seed, his holy spirit and his word work on our hearts to convict us of sin and bring us to a knowledge of the truth, but the bible says it's possible to resist the holy spirit.

IWA, I apologize for the length, but I don't think I can follow your suggestion. Tearing out a couple verses and dissecting it is exactly the opposite of how I want to study the bible, the weight of scripture is how I determine what a verse is saying. It's really easy to interpret a few verses how we want them to be interpreted, but it's hard to do that to 50 verses. I'll try to just reference the verses, but I already know that people barely read some posts, much less crack their bible.

This passage is speaking of Stephen who was going on in his discourse (as it should seem by the thread of it) to show that, as the temple, so the temple-service must come to an end, and it would be the glory of both to give way to that worship of the Father in spirit and in truth which was to be established in the kingdom of the Messiah, stripped of the pompous ceremonies of the old law, and so he was going to apply all this which he had said more closely to his present purpose; but he perceived they could not bear it. They could patiently hear the history of the Old Testament told (it was a piece of learning which they themselves dealt much in); but if Stephen go about to tell them that their power and tyranny must come down, and that the church must be governed by a spirit of holiness and love, and heavenly-mindedness, they will not so much as give him the hearing.
