Is Contemporary music really Godly??

I once had been listening to 'christian' rock, rap, reggae, ragga etc but stopped after listening to a sermon by Zac Poonen.

I am still wondering if the contemporary christian music that we have today is really God-inspired?

Is it really?

I've had a problem with the music before in my life, and have given much of it up. I still listen to some contemporary music but have tried to minimize any impact it has on me, and made sure the songs were clean, but the truth is that the music still represents worldly ideals.

I think it is of the world. It would not be worshipful and not belong in a worship service, and i would not take my doctrine from it. I do listen to some sometimes. It is entertainment.

Contemporary Christian music is as God inspired as the hymns of yesterday.

In and of itself, the music is not godly, rather the intent or heart behind it. David sang to the Lord when he was delivered from his enemies, it was joy for the Lord and his awesome power. Whether it be a hymn or a song written by a modern Christian band, no one really knows the heart behind that song, or the person's heart when they're singing it, only the Lord... Which is fitting, as it is originally intended for him.

Have any of you ever eaten vegetarian "hot dogs or veggie burgers", made to taste and feel like the real thing?

That's what certain types of "Christian" music remind me of.

Songs and music, made to taste and feel like the worldy versions...

I'll add this though,

In the end, a contemporary rock or rap song, sung or listened to by faith is more acceptable to God than a traditional hymn, sung or listened to apart from true faith.

God bless

Music is not God-inspired. However, the ability to create is God-given, as is music.

That's like asking if eating carrots is God-inspired.

No? But that's not why you eat carrots.

i disagree with all of you.

All good things come from God. God invented music and food.

It is how we use it that makes it ungodly.

However, if you have a problem maybe you should go back to only harps, flutes, singing and the trumpet. Wre those not the orginal musical instruments.

i d not care for hard rock or rap, even the christian stuff.

It is a personal dislike.:excited:

How do you define godly in relation to music? I did not know that some christian music is more godly that than other christian music. Honestly,I do not mind listening to contemporary music as long as it glorifies God. Even the bible says that WHOEVER IS NOT AGAINST US IS FOR US. So why not listen to it if whatever the singer is singing glorifies the name of the Lord? As a matter of fact I don't mind listening to christian rock or reggae or whatever. I guess it is all depends on one's preference.

Contemporary music today is what I call 7-11 music. Seven words, repeated 11 times.

I think you have to be careful with contemporary music. The thing I disagree most is when they take a secular song and turn it into a christian song. As cool as it is, the majority of the time, you're thinking about what the song use to be, and not what it is now. Entertaining it may be, but not for a church service. If you're really interested, you could probably find why the artist wrote the song. Often the history of a song can make it more meaningful.

Most importantly though, have devotions. It's so important to read God's word and spend time with Him.
