The Abomination of Desolation In Daniel 9: 27
"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." Daniel 9: 26-27
The statement "for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate...and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate" is the abomination of desolation.
This runs twice, once in the apostasy of physical Israel, which actually happened more than once. Physical Israel's turning to false doctrines and practices led to the Babylonian captivity and again at the time of Christ physical Israel was in the apostasy of the religion of the Pharisees, or Talmudic Judaism. "I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Matthew 15: 24 Christ, the dresser of the vineyard in the parable of Luke 13: 7, came to bring spiritual life, and transformation to physical Israel, and to make all peoples of one blood (Acts 17: 26).
"And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, 24. Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
25. As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
26. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
27. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:" Romans 9: 23-27
"...and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God. Hosea 2: 23
Just as physical Israel went into false doctrines, so what Christians call the church goes into false doctrines, as predicted by II Thessalonians 2: 3, Luke 13: 19-21, I Timothy 4: 1-2, II Timothy 4:3, II Timothy 3: 1-2, 5, 7-8, and implied by Matthew 24: 11.
The abomination of desolation is in Matthew 24: 15, which runs twice.
In Daniel 9: 27 "for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate...that determined shall be poured out upon the desolate" is the abomination of desolation mentioned by Daniel the prophet (Matthew 24: 15).
In the Christian timeline, it is the the abomination of desolation that causes the living sacrifice of Christ to cease, that is, to be ineffective for those in the abomination of desolation.
A big part of the apostasy of what Christians call the church is in the teaching that physical Israel remains now a chosen people of God, alongside the church. This teaching runs clearly into and against John 10: 16, "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd."
"Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 20. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21. For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22. Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." Romans 11: 19-22
Gentiles are not grafted into the physical Israel - the religion of the Pharisees or Talmudic Judaism - at the time of Christ, which in Matthew 15: 24 is said to be lost. Gentiles are grafted into Jesus Christ who in Romans 11: 16 is said to be holy and the firstfruit. The natural branches of Romans 11: 21 are those of physical Israel, who must be born again (John 3: 1-7) to receive the goodness of God (Romans 11: 22), for if they do not accept Christ and are not born again, transformed in him, they are cut off the tree whose root is Christ.
Today most professing Christians fail to understand their heritage as the Israel of God of Galatians 6: 16, and all Israel shall be saved of Romans 11: 26. Paul supplies supporting texts, for all those who are saved being Israel, for example in Romans 2: 23-29, Romans 9: 6-8 ("They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God"), Galatians 3: 3-29 ("And if ye be Christ's then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise"), that the seed of Abraham, and therefore the seed of God, is no longer attained to by genetics, by the flesh, but by the faith of Abraham to all races. Paul uses metaphor in Galatians 4:24-26 to contrast physical Israel, which he calls Jerusalem, which is in bondage with her children, with spiritual Israel, called Jerusalem which is free and is above.
Christians since the nineteenth century cults, and especially after the period right after the end of World War II and 1948, are in the second run of the Babylonian captivity.
Jacobs trouble in the last days, the indignation of Isaiah 26: 20-21, the time of trouble in Daniel 12: 1, the day of wrath of Zephaniah 1: 15, and the tribulation of Matthew 24: 21 is the Mystery Babylonian Captivity in Revelation 17 and 18. The metaphoric Babylonian Captivity in the Old Covenant timeline is found in Jeremiah 50 and 51. In Revelation 18: 4, the faithful remnant is called out of the Babylonian Captivity, and in Revelation 18: 23 the light of a candle is said to shine no more in Babylon, and the voice of the bridegroom and of his bride are no longer heard there, as though this metaphoric Babylon was a place on earth.
Scripture says a remnant returns from this Babylonian Captivity. As in the first Babylonian Captivity most of physical Israel was happy in Babylon, so most people in the churches are now happy being in Babylon. But a portion will return to Zion (Sion) says Jeremiah 50:5. "They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten."
Isaiah 37:31 says: "And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward: " The remnant as those who are faithful escaped from the apostate house of Judah in the Old Covenant timeline, and so a remnant will escape the judgment upon the larger body of those claiming to be Christians in the New Covenant time.
I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD. 13. The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
14. Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. Zephaniah 3" 12-14
"And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15. And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16. And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."
The remnant of Israel in the end times have the testimony of Jesus Christ and teach it and the love of the truth, so that those who have ears to hear will come out of Babylonian Captivity.
