JESUS SAYS, "ALL WHO DRAW THE SWORD WILL DIE BY THE SWORD!"
Jesus said to His 11 Apostles, "If you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. For it is written: "And He was numbered with the transgressors"{Isaiah 53:12} and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in Me. Yes, what is written about Me is reaching its fulfillment." The disciples said, "See Lord, here are 2 {Not 11}swords." "That is enough." Jesus replied.
Matthew 26:30-34: They seized Jesus and arrested Him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "For *ALL* who draw the sword will die by the sword...But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"
And so the only reason that Jesus allowed the disciples to have 2 swords was so that the Scripture in Isaiah 53:12 would be fulfilled: "He was numbered among the transgressors."
Jesus said to Pilate, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But NOW My Kingdom is from another place!"
Luke 6:27-29: Jesus commands, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you. do not demand it back!"
2 Corinthians 10:3,4: "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are *NOT* the weapons of the world."
The only weapons that NT saints may use who follow the New Covenant commands of Jesus is the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. A NT saint would not even think of joining the army of any nation and becoming a professional killer or defending himself with a gun. Unfortunately very few Groups such as the Amish still obey these sacred commands of Jesus.
I John 2:3-5: "We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His {Jesus'} commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His Word, God's love is truly made complete in him."
The inspired words of the NT were inspired by God between AD 50 and AD 96 and the 4 Gospels were written about AD 65 And so all of the approximately 400 NT commands were not completed until Around AD 96.
When you join the military and become a professional killer you must make a VOW that you will obey all the commands of your commanding officer. And so if He commands you to drop an Atomic Bomb that will kill about 100,000 civilians including about 25,000 innocent children you must obey this command!!!
What are the NT commands concerning making VOWS??
James 5:12: "ABOVE ALL, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.!!"
Matthew 5:33-37: Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said to your people long ago {OT}, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' BUT I tell you, Do not swear at all....Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No, 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one!!"

" A NT saint would not even think of joining the army of any nation and becoming a professional killer or defending himself with a gun"
This is a complete perversion of the Word. It is also a bifurcation of the O.T. and N.T. It display no understanding of the God appointed "powers that be" that are used to administer God's justice in society. Total foolishness.

I've got to agree with IWA here, although I'll skip the insults. I do agree with this verse, but I think the interpretation is mixed up a bit. Premeditated murder and aggression has always been condemned by the bible, and I would say that that is what the verse is speaking to, but war and execution, etc has always been used by God, directly or indirectly, to strike fear in the hearts of evil men and discourage crime and sin. Jesus was rebuking Peter's aggression, not his ability to defend himself and others. Even in the old testament, it was part of the law to approach a city before a battle and offer them peaceful terms before attacking.
Deuteronomy 20
10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it. 11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee. 12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it: 13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword.
I believe God condemns senseless violence and aggressive expansion, but I do not see where God endorses pacifism, in fact, I consider pacifism to be, ironically, pretty offensive. To stand and watch others suffer and die is morally reprehensible in my opinion. Depending on the circumstances, I'm not sure if I would kill someone in self-defense, but I would most definitely use any way possible to stop or kill a murderer/attacker to save a victim, and I would not feel one speck of guilt. So at the least, I endorse mercy, but never pacifism, and I believe the bible backs that up.

I walk alone is walking ALONE!!
Jesus made a completly new and different covenant than the OT Covenant. For example:
The OT Covenant states in Leviticus 24:20,21: The Lord said to Moses..."If anyone injures his neighbor, whatever he has done MUST be done to him: eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As he has injured the other so is he to be injured..whoever kills a man must be put to death."
This OT command was completely changed by Jesus in Matthew 5:38-40: Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone takes your tunic, let him have your cloak as well!!"
The OT Covenant states in Numbers 30:1,2: This is what the Lord commands, "When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he MUST not not break his word but must do everything he said!"
This OT command was completely changed by Jesus in Matthew 5:33-37: Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said to your people long ago {OT-Numbers 30:1,2}, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' BUT I tell you, Do not swear at all....Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No, 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one!!"
James 5:12: "ABOVE ALL, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.!!"
Hebrews 8:7,8,13: For if there had been nothing wrong with the first Covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said "The time is coming declares the Lord, when a I make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and Judah".....By calling this covenant "NEW", He has made the first on OBSOLETE!!Hebrews 9:15: Christ is the mediator of a NEW COVENANT, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritace--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first Covenant!!
John 2:3-5: "We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His {Jesus'} commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His Word, God's love is truly made complete in him!!"

I served in the military as a Christian...we need more Christians serving and protecting our freedoms. Just like we need Christian police officers and security guards.
