Galatians 2:11 but when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him face to face, because he was at fault.
Sometime after the conference in Acts 15/Galatians 2, Peter went to Antioch. He was now aware of the specific grace given to Paul (Galatians 2:9) which did away with the Law both as a means of salvation and as a means of sanctification. Note Paul's rebuke of the Galatians:
3:2 This only I desire to learn from you: did you receive the Spirit out of the source of the works of the law, or out of the source of the message of the faithfulness?
3:3 are you so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are you now making yourselves fully complete by the flesh?
Acts 15:11 records the following statement by Peter:
But through the grace of the Lord Jesus we believe to be saved, in the same manner as those.
Peter recognizes that Jews can now be saved apart from the Law, just as the Gentiles were already being saved. So Peter knew better.
12 for before some had come from Jacob, he had the habit of eating with the Gentiles, but when they came, he cowered and separated himself, fearing the ones from the circumcision.
At Antioch, Peter ate with Gentile believers on more than one occasion. Some of the Jews who had believed still held to the Law. Jacob was a primary figure for this circumcision "party." As far as Paul is concerned, Jacob had sent these people to Antioch. But Paul isn't addressing them. His concern is the actions of Peter. When Peter saw these followers of Jacob, he pulled back, withdrew, making an attempt to conceal himself. He separated himself from the Gentiles out of fear of the circumcision.
13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically together with him, so that Barnabas also was carried away with their hypocrisy.
There were Jewish believers at Antioch who had the habit of eating with the Gentiles. But when they saw Peter give in, they also gave in. Knowing better, they acted contrary to their principles. Even Barnabas was caused to give in.
Galatians 2:14 But when I saw that they did not walk straight toward the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, If you, being a Jew, live as a Gentile, and not as a Jew, why are you compelling the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
Paul saw that the Jewish believers did not walk or live their lives in the correct manner, that was consistent with the truth of the gospel. So he asked Peter a question.
"Peter, you're a Jew who has believed in Christ. In fact, you understand the truth of the gospel, that the law doesn't save us and it doesn't make us holy. Rituals do nothing for us. Ceremonies have no merit. You know this and you have been living in a manner like the Gentiles, as you have been enjoying table fellowship with those believers. So I want to know why you have gone back to living in a Jewish manner. By doing this you are confusing the Gentiles and trying to compel them to Judaize."
Peter had recognized he was no longer under the law. But because of the pressure from some of Jacob's followers, he withdrew from his fellowship with the Gentiles. By his actions he was saying it was necessary to "judaize." This meant that the Gentiles were to place themselves back under the law. In the context of Galatians, this means not only circumcision but also the whole law.
5:3 For I testify again to every man being circumcised, that he is obligated to do the whole law.
Whosoever commits sin transgresses also The Law: for sin is the transgression of The Law.
2 Corinthians 6:14 - English Standard Version
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers (true believers keep The Law). For what partnership has righteousness (law keepers) with lawlessness (law breakers)?
Matthew 23:28
The same is true of you: outwardly you seem to the human eye to be good and honest men, but, within, you are full of insincerity and disregard of God's Law.
Matthew 13:41-
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers,
Matthew 19
16 And someone came to Him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life? if you wish to obtain eternal life, keep the commandments (of Yahweh, Eternal Life is the promise for obedience to The Law).
Matthew 5:17-20
17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
(EVERYTHING HAS NOT YET BEEN ACCOMPLISHED! NEITHER HEAVEN NOR EARTH HAVE DISAPPEARED!)
19 Therefore ANYONE WHO SETS ASIDE ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESE COMMANDS AND TEACHES OTHERS ACCORDINGLY WILL BE CALLED THE LEAST IN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
If you dont keep the sabbath then you dont have to keep the other 9 also. I cant beleive Yeshua---cause that is His Name --- died on the cross so i can eat pork and keep christmas and that changed the sabbath to sunday...as long as He Kept the sabbath. I am not under the LAW anymore cause i have access to the Holy Of Holiness, dont need to sacrifice animals on altar cause He, the Lamb was sacrificed to reconcile mankind to God !!I am to follow His instruction so i may live!
If we dont keep the sabbath, we dont need the old testament.
If you preach or teach something and i cant find in the old testament.....(.isnt it the Word the apostles preached in their times???)...what then?
I come from a baptist church with a grandfather as a baptist pastor, i am thankful for what i learn in my family and church.....but now...the book was opened.Daniel's book was open. it is the time !!! Please, read ! Going back to the Word of God, to HIS feasts, it doesnt mean i am not under grace...because of HIS grace i am saved !!!! Drop the christmas and other pagan holidays, keep his word as David did ( ops that is old testament...?) , no more doctrines, no more denominations, we are all ONE in Christ !!! We are His follower !!!! His Family ! HIS Bride !
Where do I begin? I guess that the best place to start would be with the title of this thread. I posted the scripture in response to the title to this thread. The title sends a dangerous message to those who don't have a firm grasp of the scripture.
Consider this:
If sin is transgression of the law (so it is written); and we are free of the law; then we are free of sin.
If we are free of sin; then what need do we have of grace?
Was anyone ever truly under the law; before the sacrifice of Yahshua?
If so, who of all those who loved Yahweh, before the coming of Yahshua, lived in perfect obedience to the law? Remember, if one is guilty of any point of the law; he is guilty of all of the law. Will the sons of Yahweh expect to see Moses in Yahweh's Kingdom? How about David? Solomon? Maybe? Is it possible that they too will be saved by Yahweh's grace, and not of their own works?
What is the freedom and liberty that Christ speaks of through Paul?
Galatians 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Shared ~ There were Jewish believers at Antioch who had the habit of eating with the Gentiles. But when they saw Peter give in, they also gave in. Knowing better, they acted contrary to their principles. Even Barnabas was caused to give in.
*** This reads as Peer Pressure...no doubt about it !!!...and is still happening today...
Going a bit off subject here...I asked the LORD what principles they acted contrary to ??? ... I got...Everything Jesus taught in Parable had a Moral and a Principle within it....and the people were struggling with re-assimilation back into the Judaisiers way of living...So easily they forget. Remember Peter received the vision of the sheet....and heard the voice of the Lord from heaven "What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common."... and then I was dirrected to Read Acts 11 for another view .... God Bless...
I think the problem that Paul was concerned about was how Peter and the others were behaving when their friends came, as hypocrites... jumping from one group to the other. The Jewish Christians and the Gentile Christians. This caused a big problem and confusion... because the Jewish Christians would begin to wondered if indeed they were delivered from the law, then why was Peter and the others eating with them...and also eating with the Gentile Christians who would also wonder, why was Peter and the others eating with the Gentiles, if they also ate with the Jews... Yes, Paul rebuked Peter because of his behavior... being friends with the Jews gave the impression that they were could have things as the Judiazers were preaching to the church in Galatian, that The Christian Jews and the Christian Gentiles could have both salvation and circumcision, this is why Paul rebuke the Galatians church for allow the Judiazers to creep into the church teaching false doctrine about salvation...
... this is why Paul rebuked Peter, because Peter and the others were giving a false impression. Peter thought he could live like the Gentiles and not observe the law, and also live like the Jews and keep the law. Paul didn't have a problem with Peter eating with either group, the Gentiles or the Jews... but what Peter did was, when the others came, Peter and the others tried to act as if the Gentile converts were not converted under his and Paul's teachings., this is why he separated himself when the other Christian converts came.
But isn't this how many Christians behavior, and many people behavior even in the races?... You can eat with your Black or White friends in secret or behind close doors, but as soon as your friends come alone from either the your Black or White or Hispanic ethnic group, many people separate... it happens today? ... think about it.. friends of the races on the forums, write each other talk on the phone, the whole nine yards for three and four years together on the forums... ...but dare not meet as friends in person for fear someone might see you with your White or Black or Hispanic friends...online its ok, in public its not ok...
As many Christians they live like Born Again Christians on Sunday, or when in the presence of other Christians, but when in the presence of those they USE TO RUN WITH, they continue to live as they didn't know Christ BEFORE their conversion. Peter was a true hypocrite, he tried to make the Gentiles keep the Jewish law, but he himself was no longer under the law... as Paul points out in Galatians 2:15-21 ...
Every character in the Bible his/her behavior represents who WE ARE IN CHARACTER AS A PERSON... there is nothing new under the sun. Peter's behavior represents everyone of us at one point or time in any given situation, this is why God used all those we read about in God's Word, we are only copies of who they were.
SO WHAT SHALL WE SAY ABOUT THESE THINGS?... ARE NOT THE DAYS OF THE WEEK OF PAGAN ORIGIN? ARE NOT THE MONTHS OF EACH YEAR OF PAGAN ORIGIN? DO THEY NOT HAVE THEIR ROOTS IN PAGANISM? SO WHAT SHALL WE DO? AND WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION TO END PAGANISM IN THE WORLD AMONG CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS... BEING THAT THESE ARE THINGS ORIGINATED BY PAGANS WHO DID NOT KNOW JESUS CHRIST...EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD... INCLUDING YOUR OWN NAME!
AS WELL, HAVE YOU NOT HEARD? DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT THE LORD IS GOD OF THE SABBATH AND HE WOULD CARE LESS WHAT DAY YOU SAT ASIDE TO WORSHIP AND GIVE HIS HONOR AND GLORY AND POWER, AND MIGHT DUE HIS NAME... JUST AS LONG AS YOU SET TIME ASIDE WITH AND FOR HM... DID GOD HAVE A CALENDAR DURING THE TIME OF CREATION? THEREFORE, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT DAY WAS THE SABBATH OR WHAT DAY WAS THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK in ancient times... even so, according to the Jewish calendar and time a DAY does not mean as we view a day... SOOO, WHAT WAS THE FIRST DAY OD THE WEEK IN THE GARDEN ON THE DAY OF CREATION? SOUND LIKE MUCH TO DO ABOUT PERSONAL LEGALISM AND MORALISM... THAN SALVATION AND GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS.....
ONCE AGAIN, CHRIST'S NAME IS HEBREW, AND... AND THE OLD TESTAMENT IS WRITTEN IN HEBREW, AND THE NEW TESTAMENT IN GREEK, THEREFORE, WE ARE GIVEN THE ENGLISH OF THE GREEK NAME OF HIS HEBREW NAME... I SPEAK ENGLISH AND CHRIST'S NAME IN ENGLISH IS JESUS, IT MEANS THE SAME IN GREEK, HEBREW, SPANISH, GERMAN, ARAMAIC, ARABIC OR WHATEVER LANGUAGE! ... JESUS CHRIST WAS AN ANCIENT JEW, IF YOU WERE BORN IN RUSSIA YOU WOULD NO DOUBT BE GIVEN A RUSSIAN NAME... AND YOUR NAME IN ENGLISH WOULD NO DOUBT HAVE AN ENGLISH MEANING AS WELL, AND BE DIFFERENT THUS, PEOPLE WHO SPEAK ENGLISH WOULD CALL YOU BY YOUR ENGLISH NAME... what part do you people not understand????:goofball: God IS NOT IMPRESSED BY THE NAME YOU CALL HIM, WHETHER IN HEBREW OR GREEK OR ENGLISH OR GERMAN... HE IS STILL LORD! IN WHATEVER LANGUAGE!
THEREFORE, FOR THOSE WHO SPEND MORE TIME BEING LEGALISTS AND MORALISTS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SABBATH, CELEBRATION OF EASTER, CHRISTMAS AND WHATEVER ELSE IS A NON-ESSENTIAL... HEAR WHAT GOD SPEAKS!... If you're free from the law, then you SHOULD ALSO BE SET FREE THROUGH THE LAW OF FREEDOM!!
Romans 14 New King James Version (NKJV) The Law of Liberty 14 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge anothers servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. THE PERSON who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and THE PERSON who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. THE PERSON who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and THE PERSON who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lords. For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written:As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God." So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brothers way.
I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to THE PERSON who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For THE PERSON who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for PEACE and the things by which one may EDIFY another. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is THE PERSON who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But THE PERSON who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; FOR WHATEVER IS NOT OF FAITH IS SIN!
Please let it be known this day, that it is ONLY GOD WHO CALLS A BEHAVIOR,OR ACTION OR WHATEVER A SIN... WE CAN ONLY CALL SIN WHAT GOD CALLS SIN. Therefore, if these things YOU DISAPPROVE OF, CONDEMN, AND JUDGE ARE NOT CALLED SINS BY GOD... WHY WASTE YOUR TIME CALLING THEM SINS OR BEING CONCERNED ABOUT THEM AND WHAT PEOPLE CELEBRATE... I DO BELIEVE GOD CALLS SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS A SIN... SO CHECK AND BALANCE YOURSELVES ATTITUDES OF PURPOSE AND YOUR SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS... THESE THINGS YOU FRET ABOUT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH SALVATION OR THE GOSPEL... THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE TEACHINGS AND PREACHING TO THE LOST!:glow:
