Was David's sin having more than one wife or was his sin having someone else's wife?

THE WORDS OF THE LORD: 2 Samuel 12:7-9

7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

1 Cor 6 is about sexual immortality not marriage, but yes I agree that Paul says if you can handle it it is better to remain single partially because you have less responsibilities and therefore can give more time and effort to the kingdom.

There are verses that say marriage is a good thing and verses that say being single is good. It's how we conduct ourselves as either married or single that is important.

As for me I am single and not looking to get married but will be happy for those who chose marriage as well.

"Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” (1 Corinthians 6:16 NIV)

"What? Know ye not that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? “For two,” saith He, “shall be one flesh.” (KJV)

So, you are saying God's Word does not apply because they were not married?

In this day and age, women have many men and men have many women. But in the Bible, women were to be monogamous. They sure aren't much monogamous these days.

And men who wanted to be leaders in the church were also to be monogamous. They sure aren't these days.

No one seems to follow the Rule Book anymore.

The Bible is the Rule Book, and no one follows it.

Can one find a church that actually follows the Bible?

1 Cor 6 Paul was addressing a misunderstanding by some of grace and "all things are permissable" and so he was making it clear to the church at Corrinth that sexual immortality was not ok.

All I was saying is that that chapter is addressing sexual immortality and not marriage. Yes that covers singles as well as he mentions both fornicators and adulterers.

I guess I've been fortunate in the churches I've been in because all the pastors and elders have been monogamous and preach that from the pulpit. Even in the congregation I can only recall 3 divorces in all my years, which is 3 too many, but I don't know the details so can't say if they were all biblical divorces, as stated by Christ and expanded by Paul or not.

But any divorce is sad and I pray for healing for those 3 couples and where applicable, growth and restoration. As it usually takes growth, forgiveness, change for restoration to happen.

Yes, many twist Jesus' words on divorce to justify divorce after Jesus spoke against divorce and marriage after divorce.

Always Jesus says that it is adultery for a man to marry a woman who is divorced. (Matthew 5:32, Luke 16:18, Mark 10:12) But the church gets away from scripture all the time.

It is unfortunate that the church often teaches so called "Biblical Divorce".

In the Bible, Jesus speaks against divorce and Jesus speaks against marriage after divorce. But you seem to find it okay. As long as you can label it "A Biblical Divorce".

In the Bible, it is not given to a woman to divorce her husband. She belongs to her husband.

There are instances in the Bible where a man is never to divorce. (Deuteronomy 22:19 and 22:29) Yet you come up with "Biblical Divorce".

Yet, the whole thing of divorce, according to Jesus, comes from hardness of the heart.

Joseph thought to divorce Mary because she was found to be pregnant and he had never touched her. But not many women are virgins these days for their husband. If there ever was reason in the Bible for a man to divorce a woman, it was Joseph divorcing Mary. There really is not any other place for a "Biblical Reason" for divorce.

In the Bible, it was given to a man to divorce his wife. But Jesus speaks against it.

In the Bible, Moses gave it to a man to divorce his wife if she became displeasing to him. (Deuteronomy 24:1-4)

Jesus spoke against this.

Now we speak of "Biblical Divorce" as a justification to divorce.

After Jesus speaks against divorce and speaks against marriage after divorce, we then justify divorce after our Saviour tells us not to divorce. And Paul tells us not to divorce. (1 Corinthians 7:10-11) But you then advocate for "BIBLICAL DIVORCE" when the Bible speaks against divorce.

The Bible speaks against marrying women that are divorced, yet you seem okay with it as long as it was a "Biblical Divorce". Never is it okay to marry divorced women. But you find a Loop Hole. You tell people she had "A Biblical Divorce". That then makes it okay. As long as it is a "Biblical Divorce" which it never is. The Bible does not give it to the woman to divorce her husband. And Jesus speaks against men divorcing their wives. But you say it's okay as long as it is biblical after Jesus already speaks against it. Indeed, in the Bible, a man could divorce his wife for any and every reason just for becoming displeasing to him. And Jesus speaks against it. Now women want to divorce for any and every reason. We give incentive for it: money and house and child-support payments. But in the Bible, women were to go free without payment of money (Exodus 21:11) and a man got to keep his house. (Deuteronomy 24:1-4)

Women now think it their Bible right to divorce. But in the Bible. Moses gave it to a man to divorce his wife because their hearts were hard. Now women want to do the same thing. In the Bible, it is not given to a woman to divorce. Jesus speaks against divorce, but the church advocates for it. Jesus did not say that God gave a command to divorce. He said that Moses gave you this command because your hearts were hard. When will the church tire of teaching divorce? Women have no Bible reasons to divorce their husband. It is not given to the woman to divorce. That you can do something doesn't mean you should, and it shows a great error on your part to say there are Bible reasons for a woman to divorce her husband. There aren't even Bible reasons for a man to divorce his wife.

A woman must not separate from her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. (1 Corinthians 7:10-11) Any man that marries a divorced woman commits adultery. (Luke 16:18) If she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery. (Mark 10:12) You come up with Biblical reasons for divorce when there are none. Do you want Christ to divorce us? It is all hardness of heart. But in the Bible, a man can have more than one wife.
