Firstly Panzer Central (http://www.panzercentral.com/forum/) is your one stop shop for everything, seriously... EVERYTHING.



It all started with Panzer General(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzer_General) back in 1994 released on most major platforms, the latest game in the series being released in 2009 on Xbox Live Arcade. The last official Panzer General's released on PC were 3D Assault & Scorched Earth... IMHO the 3D direction they tried sucks so much it makes my eyes bleed. This, the Command & Conquer of TBS, spawned a lot of clones most notably; Steel Panthers and Panzer Corps.



The Original "5 Star General" series is available as abandonware here, http://panzergeneraldownload.com/



People's General has by now been basically Uber-Modified and is much superior to the original. The Original has been fan patched first up to v2.0 then to v3.0, the installer provides links for starting up the game in all three versions. The modders also have for the sake of everyone's sanity made the major mods available in standalone installers. The biggest mod series (WW2) remakes Panzer General 2 and then ads a LOT of campaigns. They added a now site hosted in Germany but due to problematic German law they could not host the WW2 variants, these are still available at their original site. Also on both sites is the remake of the first Panzer General now called Panzer General Forever. These games are all freeware.

There is a HTML5 remake of Panzer General 2 called Open Panzer, Open Source. Tablet and phone versions of this are also available but stick to bigger screens maybe

Open General is a proper Open Source remake of Panzer General 2, not all campaigns are 100% complete but on a whole it by now has a LOT of them. Most major Panzer General 2 mods like Adlerkorps have either made their way to it or are mostly there.
