Sabbath 3/2/19 Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Pastor Ken sermon “Walk As Wise, Not As Fools” Ephesians 5:15-21

============================================================================================

In our text, we can say Paul went from preaching to meddling. God told him through scriptures. We Christians believe in an unseen world of angels, good and bad. We believe in an unseen God and Jesus. All we see are the blessings that the Lord gives us. The Apostle Paul is talking about habitation-how we should live in our community and also with our families. He says “Therefore” because he wants us to see that it is all connected. “Make sure how your walk” is how Paul starts his meddling. Watch “how” and “where” you are walking.

If a farmer tells you to walk in a field with cows, he will say put on your boots. We Christians are to walk as wise people and be careful that we don’t set off any landmines. Most people accept everything that TV preachers say. I know a lady who once sent a great sum of money to a TV preacher for his ministry. Instead, he used it for his own personal gain. Or…some folk just accept what people with letters behind their name say. The Bible says to be wise as we walk in spiritual things. Be wise by checking on it through the Bible and through prayer to be sure. Also, we need to make the most of our time because the days are evil. There are 3 million seconds in one year. We need to use our time wisely. Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Live our life through Christ to the fullest. The days in Paul’s time were evil so they are definitely evil in our time! We need to make the most of our time on this earth. It was evil in Noah’s time. So evil that God did the flood and destroyed everyone but Noah and his family. Our evil today matches the evil of that time. Paul says don’t be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. Don’t be a drunk! The Bible says instead of being a drunk, be filled with the Spirit. The Spirit is continually in us and it is continually acting inside of us. Continually be filled and under the Spirit’s control.

1) Speak to One Another in Songs and Hymns. Make melody in your hearts to each other. This means the praises in our life should act like music to God. Praise comes out of our mouth in the hymns we sing. We are singing to God and to the person standing next to us. This confirms the Salvation event in our life.

2) Be Subject to One Another: This is being the one who goes to the banquet feast and sits in a lower place instead of in a higher seat. Don’t think more highly of yourself then you should. Be humble and think of others first. Be filled with the Spirit and remember that only what’s done for Christ Jesus will last. Ask, God the Father, to help us watch where we walk and how we use our time for God’s Glory. Let us be filled with the Holy Spirit.

AMEN
