Sabbath 12/6/14 Alfred Station SDB Pastor Ken sermon Who is Jesus? John 1:1-3

=====================================

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, in God and was God. Jesus is the Word. The Word of God is a mystery sometimes. We cannot get it sometimes. It is a mystery but it is True. The 14th verse says the Word became flesh and was among us Jesus. We can go back and read verse 1 as In the beginning was Jesus and Jesus was with God and Jesus was in God.

John says Jesus was real. In verse 3, Jesus has a relationship with creation. God touches earth and does it thru the Son Jesus. Verse 3- All things were made by God but He is not inside them. He made trees but we do not worship trees. Jesus is different in that we worship Jesus and we worship God. The Son of God is different from nature. All things come into being by Him. That means there is nothing that didnt come through Jesus Christ or by Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the agency of all things coming into being. Jesus is the agency of creation and things were made thru Him. This makes Him, as part of His nature, the Creator. Sooooo. apart from Him, nothing comes into being. With Jesus, nothing becomes something! With Jesus you can have and do all things!

The baby that was born in the manger is the Word. That baby is God in the flesh, the Creator, the agency of creation. Thats a mystery! The baby had to be fed and get his pampers changed. Thats a mystery! We are not completely finished. The mystery continues because Jesus is part of the Trinity of God. We must grab a hold of the mystery of our Faith. Jesus the Christ, Jesus the Son of God, Jesus the Word of God. We must ask God to help us understand the mystery and to have Faith in Him.

AMEN

Sabbath 11/29/14 Daytona SDB Pastor Wray From Serve-Us to Service Matthew 25:31-46, II Chron. 16:19, James 2:14, 17

====================================

The Church should not be a place to be served but a place to do service and embracing Gods call to do service. Do you remember the full service gas stations? This was where the station attendants would surround your car offering to serve you. Many people used to go to church to be served and some still do. We would hear our favorite hymn, hear an inspiring message, watch and listen to a well-trained choir and have the pastor pray over our family. We would get our faith encouraged and then after being well fed, we went home. This is how I remember it. Little has changed and many people still go church shopping to evaluate what they can get from the church.

Somewhere in our journey of faith, a change takes place, a transition happens in our thinking. We find ourselves moving away from serve-us to service. The church is a place to go serve. James 2:14, 17 say that faith gets proved by the actions and good deeds we do. Faith without works is dead. Church membership has a lot more to do with servicing when the church is following the pattern set out by Jesus. A church like ours, as the media stated, is a tiny church. We may be a small church but we are well put together! The word tiny doesnt bother me as long as you are tiny and doing something! Can you say Amen? The Lord intends for us, the Church, to be a full-service station equipped and committed to serving the needs of our community. Not just being in the community but serving the needs of the community. A full service station for Daytona and beyond. The Lord is looking for a church like that. In II Chron. 16, it says the eyes of the Lord search the earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. My question to you this morning, do Gods eyes land on us? Does He find us fully committed to Him?

In Matthew 25, Jesus says He will separate the sheep from the goats. He will separate the righteous from the unrighteous folk. The righteous fed, clothed, cared for the sick people in their community. Jesus said that when they did this for others, they did it for Him. The unrighteous didnt do anything for anybody that was hungry, naked or sick. Jesus sent them to Hell. Jesus said they didnt take care of Him when they didnt take care of other people. The righteous go to Heaven and the unrighteous go to Hell. This is what Jesus said He will be doing on Judgment day in the final judgment. Jesus separates his obedient followers from the pretenders and unbelievers. Jesus seeks from us the service of basic acts of mercy that we can do every day. He wants to see us put into action the faith we profess with our mouths. This is part of the criteria He will use to separate the sheep from the goats. We can feed the hungry, be kind to strangers, clothe the naked and look after the sick. According to Gods word we will be judged more on what we failed to do when we had the opportunity to serve others. We will be judged less on what we actually said and did.

There once was a couple who went to church and came back telling their grandmother how good service was. They told her how loud the choir sang, how loud the preacher shouted out the sermon and how high the people jumped from their seats. The grandmother said she was not concerned about how loud they sang, preached or how high they jumped. She was just concerned about what they did when they finally came back down. This is what counts. Jesus said it is not how good you feel when we leave from here, the church. It is how we live our faith on a daily basis that counts. It is how we respond to the needs of others. We need to see ourselves as part of a church that is in service to the people around us. God wants us to be a full service station with each of us as a station attendant working together to serve those in need. We can serve thru worship services, youth groups, womens and mens ministry, bible study, home groups and recovery groups. All these good programs can enhance and lift up our community. God wants us to be committed to serve. We must pray that our ears and hearts will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit as we plan our programs to serve the community for the New Year. We must tell God He can count on us!

AMEN

We Are In The Same Boat

by Jasmine Lynch; 11/22/2014

James 1: 9-16

==================================

Today we will continue the study of the book of James. At the end of the study of Verses 1-8 we prayed and asked God to give us the wisdom to overcome our specific situation, the patience and perseverance that we need and the faith to believe without wavering that He will grant our request. .

Today we are going to look at some of the believers characteristics. The first thing we are going to discover is that we are all in the same boat, rich and poor alike and we all need to depend on God if we are going to be successful. We all face the same situations in life though some more severe than others, and there are certain things we can each do to pull ourselves up.

James 1: 9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliationsince they will pass away like a wild flower. (NIV) The opposite of poor is rich, but nobody likes to be called poor, so James uses the word humble to describe those who are opposite to being rich. Notice that both the rich and the poor or the humble will pass away like a wild flower. You are up today, feeling well and in a split second, you have a heart attack, meet in an accident, a plane crash in your house, two terrorists rush in the church and kill you. These things can happen to anyone of us. It doesnt matter what our standing is in life. So what is James saying?

1. Take pride in whatever you are doing. Even though you fade away, whatever you do for Christ will last. Your deed is the only thing that goes with you into eternity. If you do good deeds, you will be rewarded and you get to spend eternity with God, Jesus, the patriarchs, your beloved Christian relatives and friends. If you do evil deeds, you get to spend eternity with the devil and his angels. One poet puts it this way: One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child. I would not even say 100 years from now, I would say 10 or 20 yrs. from now, who is going to remember me? But if I take pride in what I am doing my work is a legacy I can leave behind.

V.11-12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him

2. Exhibits Endurance: endurance according to the dictionary is to experience exertion, pain, or hardship without giving up. It requires Perseverance. Did you know that the main difference between a rich person and a poor person, an A student and a F student, a backslider and a devote Christian is endurance or perseverance. Talk to rich people and they will tell you how many times they tried an idea or different ideas before they become successful. Thomas Edison failed 1000 times before he developed the light bulb, but he said I did not fail, The development of the light bulb had 1000 steps. He had endurance. Ford failed twice before he developed Ford Motor Company in 1903. Poor people give up after the first time they experience failure. Very few people are born rich. Talk to A students and they will tell you how many hours they spend doing homework, how many individuals they go to for help and how many teacher conferences they have or their parents have. Talk to F students and many of them give up after their first F.

Talk to backsliders, and they will tell you that God didnt do what they expected, or the church didnt meet their needs, or they could not kick a certain habit so they just gave up on the church and on God. I remember one young man that we had worked with who could not find work, and he started coming to church with his children, then he gave up after he had been coming a couple months and did not get a job. He lacked endurance. He did not endure hardship; he gave up. What is James saying about endurance? If you endure temptation, you will be blessed with a crown of life. The crown of life is given to those who love God.

3. Believers love God. John 14:15 Jesus was speaking to His followers and He said, If you love me keep my commandments. God loves us with an everlasting love, and our love has to endure. You cant demonstrate your love when times are bad to appease Him, and not when it is good like Israel did. You know how we call upon His name when we are in trouble, when we are in despair, when we need help, when we lose our job, or a loved one, or when we are sick and then when God sends us help or lift us out of our despair we forget about Him. Love must endure through the good times and in the bad times.

James is saying we need to endure temptation because temptation is not of God. It comes about because of our desires and then what we conceive is sinful and when we act fully on what we conceive, it brings about death. You die spiritually first then you experience physical death with no hope of eternal life. Giving up is not an option if you want to be blessed with a crown of life, which is eternal life. Jesus said in Matthew 24:13, But he who endures to the end shall be saved. There goes that word endure again.

James said dont let anyone fool you and tell you that your temptation is of God. God cant tempt anyone with evil. We should know that. God and evil cannot co-exist. V. 13-15. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

4. Not easily deceived: V. 1617 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning

God only give good gifts and only perfect gifts and He gives us these gifts so that we as Christians, as first fruits, will spread the gospel message so He can harvest many more believers. . 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.

Conclusion: The question for us is, what are we doing to spread the gospel message so that God will reap a bountiful harvest? We are the first fruits. He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light for that purpose. To be His witness. As believers we must do a self-examination to see if our faith matches our work. James is the one who said, faith without works is dead. As believers we

1. Take pride in whatever we are doing, not only in the spiritual but also in the temporal

2. Exhibit Endurance not only in our beliefs but in our work

3. Love God by keeping His commandments

4. Are Not easily deceived; believers know the truth. Jesus said my word is Truth
