- About Me
-
Who I am:
Moderate - I try to approach most aspects of life with balance (e.g., there is a place for both work and rest). I also try to be open-minded and respectful of views opposed to my own, and I generally can see both sides of issues and try to figure out the truth, though I try to stand firm in core convictions.
Altruistic - The passages Matthew 19:16-30 and Matthew 25:31-46 inspire me to live generously, not indulging in worldly wealth but using money and resources wisely to help neighbors who are suffering.
Thoughtful - What's more important than the specific church I attend is that I approach faith with an intellectual yet practical mind. I enjoy nerding out over the Bible and respectfully considering different views on theology, and just as important is living out the faith.
Talkative and not - I oscillate sinusoidally between being very talkative, nerding out about just about anything, and being quiet and reflective.
Helpful - I strongly believe in volunteering, to help people in my community and world. Most recently, I have volunteered as a tutor with high school students, and I seek other ways to volunteer.
Extroverted - I love spending time with other people. Bible study, trips to the springs, traveling, volunteering--social activities are good for my mental health.
Wishful - I am hopeful and maybe a bit idealistic, longing for a world in which justice and peace prevail--ultimately in Christ's coming kingdom but which we should strive for even now.
Whom I seek:
A woman who loves Jesus more than she loves me, who approaches faith with intellect and enjoys in-depth discussions about faith, but who also cares deeply about living out faith daily in actions of compassion and love for all neighbors, from the church family to vulnerable people who are suffering in poverty or homelessness; who has an adventurous spirit and an energetic, friendly personality, who enjoys church fellowship and social activities but who can also enjoy long conversations "nerding out" about topics of common interest; who is willing to lead a frugal lifestyle, shunning worldly luxuries in order to use time and resources to serve Jesus and promote his kingdom; and who loves children and wants get married and have children.
- First Date
- The park was full of sounds--the chatter of dozens of people walking about in the early evening air; laughter from children, running to and fro; a man playing jazz on his saxophone by the sidewalk; the call of birds flying over the water; but all Matthew heard was her voice as she told him about her life.
They sat at a bench a short distance from the Venezuelan food truck where they bought dinner. She and Matthew had ordered pabellon, and were savoring the rich blend of flavors as they talked for what seemed like ages. As usual, Matthew had gotten so food on himself, but he hardly cared as they laughed together.
Their meal finished, they strolled around the park, near the water's edge, talking for a little while, but then being silent as they enjoyed the cool breeze and the last rays of sun on the rippling water. As they walked by to their cars, Matthew said, "This was fun! Would you like to go bring cookies and flowers to elderly people next time we meet?"
