I have recently graduated from ' Rice-a-Roni' to experimenting with making my own rice with various spices and vegetables. I can't seem to get the rice to come out right. I am guessing the rice-a-roni is pre-cooked and dried? Anyway my rice comes out kinda tough, not real fluffy like I like it. I am using brown long grain organic rice, does that make a difference? Suggestions please....

PS ...anyone have some really good recipes for rice dishes???

Yes, fried rice is so very good! Tho it's not my favourite cuisine but it does taste good and every one loves it!

I don't have any idea about cooking rice using a pot, I only know how to cook it using a rice cooker. And I never cook rice brown, for me it tastes like bird foodies (I'm sorry if it offended anyone here, no hard feeling lol).

Ok, let me see if I can deliver this method well. Oh boy, this is going to be hard *sigh*

Using a rice cooker, the amount of water added must be equal with the amount of rice plus water.

Formula: rice+water = water to be added.

So in the rice cooker, there should be (for example) a cup of rice+water and a cup of water added.

And then, just plug the rice cooker and u change it to "cook mode", then after around 15 minutes, voila it will automatically change to "warm mode". Wait for another 10 minutes, and then u would have ur rice cooked. I never count the time, the rice cooker always does its job well automatically so the minutes were just my guess. I usually put the rice and water in the rice cooker then eat the rice after 30 minutes later.

Oh, for the fried rice, just go to the Chinese restaurants and see how they cook the fried rice. That's how I learned it, just seeing how people cook it :goofball: it's not like I don't want to give you the recipe, but it's very hard for me to describe how to cook (see how I wrote unprofessionally about how to cook rice, unlike above posts lol)

Or, u can date a woman who can cook these kind of foodies and ask her to teach u! That is a very romantic idea, eh? :D

*leaning over her lap plugging in rice cooker accidentally brushing her femine knee smelling her perfume*

*she adds the rice and water gently leaning against my manly strong shoulder*

*both reach for the switch at the same time and pull back together and laugh*

*holding hands and staring at the automatic rice cooker for 30 minutes*

i know this is for the ladies, but i am a bachelor who loves rice too. :yay: found out if u are adding food to rice you should cook the meat separate from the rice till almost done, then add it. :eat: and to answer your question about a rice cooker, they are usually grouped with the slow cooker crock pots in the kitchen section... peas you could probably cook at the same time as the rice if they are frozen but be careful..

Thanks Bill, I am also finding out through trail and error WHEN to add other food to rice. I am beginning to think it is best to cook the rice separate.

so, there werent instructions with this bag of brown rice?

it usually takes 45 minutes as opposed to white long grain that is 18 minutes.

I add black beans and cilantro with a dash of cumin, salt and pepper to mine.

sometimes I will cook some onions on low in some olive oil for about 15 minutes then add them to the rice along with the other things i mentioned after it's cooked.

delicioso!
