Asking girls ages 20-35: Is a mustache a deal killer?
Posted : 23 Mar, 2016 04:34 PM

I'm in my late 20's and have a mustache (not a big bushy one, just a regular one). I like it fine but apparently girls do not (although I've never had anyone say that.) No other facial hair. I think I am fairly good looking (at least average).

I have been a subscriber on one of the larger Christian Singles sites for over a year and every time I contact anyone who is even moderately attractive and/or seemingly intelligent I get no response. Only the desperate types will contact me.

My question:

Is a guy having a mustache such a turnoff that a girl will dismiss him before even corresponding or chatting? Would you ignore messages from a guy who seemed like a good match but had a mustache?

PS: Please be honest. It will help me and maybe others. I really appreciate any responses!

A real woman demands a bearded man, go 100% or go home

hi

its up to you. if you meet a lady you like and she asked you to shave it; would you? some men attach their masculinity to facial hair!?

Rambo: Interesting! I don't think a beard would work well for me but it works great for some guys.

Zuri1: Yeah, I would almost certainly shave it if a girl I liked asked me too. This is the thing. A mustache isn't necessarily permanent but I think I think a lot of girls write me off because of it - at least online - in person not so much but there aren't many good Christian girls locally.

It really depends on the guy. Some look mature and some look silly.

Personally I don't think it should matter as it's the person underneath that counts, although I agree that some people just don't suit facial hair so see why this might be offputting.

Personally I like facial hair as this demonstrates masculinity and the ability to grow some!

IMHO, I think you have latched on to your mustache as the reason why women aren't contacting you, thus using this as an excuse to justify not doing any soul searching to discover the true reason, which, based on a comment in your question, has an awful lot to do with your attitude.....

"Only the desperate types will contact me" Wow! That speaks volumes, lol! I suspect your unconscious attitude comes thru loud & clear to the women you contact, & that is the true reason why they do not respond. It has nothing to do with your mustache! Easy enough to prove - shave it, submit a new profile photo, & see what happens.

Curiously, you failed to provide a profile photo here, so that the women who meet the parameters set by your question could assess your mustache..... Hmmmmm....!! Again, that in itself speaks volumes, because I think subconsciously you know your mustache is not the source of the problem, but something else altogether that you choose not to face or acknowledge. It becomes easier to ignore it by blaming your mustache instead.

Speaking subjectively, there are many kinds of tastes out there, as are there many kinds of facial hair, & all women have their preferences. The Bible warns us against judging by one's appearance, but instead judging by one's heart. Perhaps you should apply that personally, & instead of judging your appearance, judge your heart, examine it carefully & honestly, & submit to God, so that He may correct the flaw that lies in there.

God Bless!

If the "bigger Christian singles" site you have in mind is Christian Mingle, the problem is the site's business model, not your mustache. Well, I didn't look at your mustache. If you've got a great big handlebar mustache, it could be that too. :)

But at Christian Mingle, only paid subscribers can send messages -- and that includes replying to messages. I figured that out shortly after subscribing and asked their customer service for a higher level of membership that would allow users to reply to me. That is not available.

So ... lots of people sign up for the free account, but only a few pay the money. 9/10 of my messages are to those who are free accounts. I can't tell the difference before sending a message. But if they don't read the message, chances are they're free users.
