Judges 21:20-23

So they instructed the Benjamites, saying, "Go hide in the vineyards and watch. When the girls of Shiloh come out to join in the dancing, then rush from the vineyards and each of you seize a wife from the girls of Shiloh......So that is what the Benjamites did. While the girls were dancing each man caught one and carried her off to each his wife."

Oh things were so much simpler in the old days.....lol

Have you have ever wished for a man sweep you up and make you his wife.

What are your thoughts or comments as you actually think about the girls of Shiloh.

I guess one of my first thoughts is whether the Benjamites had dibs on which girl they were going to grab before they rushed 'em, or did they just run out and seize, with no thought as to who got who. Then I have to wonder what went through those girls minds.

Have I ever wished for a man to sweep me up and make me his wife?

Like that? I'd probably shoot him.

Oh, I've always wished a man would just rush in and sweep me off my feet...but in a more figurative sense!

That Bible story always reminds me of the movie "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." It's been a while since I've seen it, but if I remember correctly, there is one point where the 6 younger brothers decided that they wanted to get married just like their oldest brother did. He advised them to go get what they want. Unfortunately, they took him literally, and actually went into town and kidnapped 6 of the prettiest girls in town. The oldest brother was appalled; he meant that they needed to woo the girls if they wanted them, not kidnap them! In the end, they all got snowed in for the winter, with the one married couple to chaperon them and no preacher to perform the ceremonies. The brothers took their courting and wooing seriously, and by the time the snow melted and the mountain pass cleared, the girls were madly in love with the guys.

Only if I saw him first and got swept off my feet before getting swept off my feet~

I feel bad for any girl who has to marry someone they don't love or know. Maybe the guys were in the bushes for days deciding and the girls were scoping them out with their big, batty eyelashes giving them the green light signal?

Sweep me up and make me his wife? No, thanks. Getting swept off my feet is fun for about 5 minutes.

I've always felt sorry for the girls in that story. Imagine getting stuck with whoever caught you! No say in the matter -- but then women were used to that back then. No courting, no time to prepare -- just wham! One of the questions I'm going to ask in heaven is for the rest of that story. What happened to all those couples? What did their lives turn out like? That is what I want to know. I guess that is two questions, isn't it?

Guys talk about how much they need respect from women, but in truth, we need the same. Please don't treat us like meat.

In books and movies, it may come out sounding romantic, but in real life, not quite so.

The fact is, women do not want to be treated, as someone said, like meat. We like to be respected and treated as if we have value, and not someone's slave.

For the men, how would you like it if some man came and stoled your daughter or sister?

Thanks Shawn for the web site. I read a article on Kyrgyzstan. Very very interesting. Apparently the woman has right of refusal after the kidnapping. In one article the women are trying to talk Norkuz (25 years old) into accepting the groom after being kidnapped, telling her, "You are past marrying age, you are lucky to be kidnapped at all"

Oh my!
