Do you believe in "the one?"

As a single man and a little bit of a romantic, I'd love to believe there is "THE ONE". You know, soul mate, love-of-your-life, the one-and-only. Hollywood almost forces us to believe that it's true, that there's one person made for another person. (Of course, I do find it interesting that those soul mates turn soul-less within a few months and divorce is soon to follow.)

But where does God fall into that belief? I know He's an involved God. I know He's a specific God. It's clear in His Word that He cares about all things concerning us. He knows how many hairs are on our head for goodness sake! (Which is actually pretty amazing because that amount changes every moment depending on washing, brushing, wind, hair ties, new growth) And it says in Psalm 139 that He thinks about us more than there are grains of sand.

I know that God made Adam, then made a woman to be his wife and companion. I believe the intent is the same for all, the Lord has made someone for everyone.

I believe that God has made someone for almost everyone, but that doesnt mean that there is only one person out there for you. In Adams case there was only one for him, but now we have one or two more people on this planet Adam had back then. I think that there can be many possible people that would be within Gods will for a person to marry. But, once you do marry, then that person is The One for you.

It was Plato who popularized the idea of a soulmate. Plato believed that before birth we had four arms, four legs, and two head. We are one person, with enough to make two bodies. But, at birth we are split in two and we spend our lives in search of our other half, our soulmate, to complete us.

So that's how the concept of a "soulmate" started, Cobbler ... I never studied that in school before, so it's nice to learn the facts behind this concept from you.

As for "THE one", I agree with Cobbler that there are in most cases, according to God will, plan and purpose for our lives, more than one man or woman "out there" who would be within God's will as someone who would be an "even yoke" and blessing for you from Him as a marriage partner, but once you two are married, then you each should consider each other "THE one", and act accordingly in a TRUE LOVE RELATIONSHIP with God in the middle, bringing Him honor, glory and praise in your love relationship, as He guides you in loving and growing in your love for each other and Him, and being a blessing to each other and others together from Him, as you continue to represent Him together and individually!!! :hearts::hearts::hearts: This is the IDEAL ... but circumstances happen in some of our marriages and relationships, many of us know, beyond our control, where it turns out to be best that those particular marriages end, and we move on with our lives, knowing God understands and has something better, something we have missed that we still need, "out there", waiting for us, with one of those other "possible" "evenly yoked" marriage partners ... so those of us who have been through this type of marriage and/or love relationship can be comforted in knowing this as we give our hearts and our lives and all of our love relationships to God for His guidance and blessing!!! :yay::yay::yay::applause::applause::applause:

Love, Steve

I think Steve has the right idea.

I don't "per-say" believe in "the-one" then I see for instance: Johnny Cash and June Carter, "and I'm jelious!!!!"

but they wanted the same things, were very much alike, and both became devoted Christians. that helps.

Sort of. I don't believe that God makes one person for us and then just hopes we can find them, nor do I believe that God has a lot of possibilities for us to marry, and he just hopes we find one of them. If it is God's will for someone to marry, I believe that he is sovereign enough to bring the two of them together. If he doesn't have it in his will for someone to marry, then it's not going to happen.

The thing is though, we also live in a fallen world, and God often uses sin or the effects of sin to bring about a greater good, which often involves marriages. In the case of one lady at my church back home, her first husband was killed by a distracted driver. She is now married to another Godly man. Some people are married once, get divorced, and don't remarry. Others do.

I am not so sure on this. There are those who serve the Lord so intimately that there seems to be no place in their lives for another person. Rather like a nun or a priest...but other churches as well.

Having to yet meet "the one" as described makes having a definitive opinion a bit tough. However, I will try and remember to ask God this one when we have a nice long chat.

Yes I believe there's a "the one" for me and that I am "the one" for someone as well. When God sees fit to bring us together the two of us will become One. AWESOME!
