What's the best treatment for sunburn? I've been at the beach all week, and my face is currently falling off. Turns out, sunscreen can't protect you completely.

Lots and lots of lotion! Lotion with Aloe Vera is really good for a sunburn, and there are some special lotions to specifically treat sunburns. It doesn't help much with actually treating the sunburn, but when I get sunburned on my face I will usually stick my head in the freezer for several minutes (the coldness feels good!), or until my dad says to grab something or get out.

Aloe Vera gel (the pure stuff, not the gelatinous goo with 10% aloe) slathered all over helps. It will make you sticky for a bit...but will help the most.

Noxema, the cold cream like face cleaner, sometimes absorbs the heat and gives some relief. Just put it on and let it soak in. When no longer helping, soak it off with damp rags.

Also, a moisturizer like shea butter can keep you from getting crackly (at least to some degree).

Sleep and drinking lots of water helps too. Also, don't exacerbate the burn. Wear loose, cotton clothes that can breathe. For some reason, God made our bodies self-repairing. So, give it the opportunities to do so, and let the body work.

If pain is an issue and none of the above give you any relief, there is an over-the-counter you can get called lidocaine (or somesuch) that doesn't help with the healing, but can keep you from crying when you have to move around.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Don't forget to keep really hydrated. Sorry to hear about the sunburn. Been there, done that. Many times.

Drink a LOT of water, and use aloe. Pure aloe is better than the "fake" stuff with very little aloe in it...in fact, if you can get hold of an aloe plant and slit one of the leaves in half, that's THE best way to get relief. Take the gooey ooze from the leaf and rub it all over the sunburn. Granted, this works best on fresh burns, but it does help even once the peeling starts. For peeling, use a good lotion to keep your skin soft.

Yes, buy a aloe vera plant, cut the leaf and rub the clear goo on your face, totally agree!.... God makes the best stuff!

Honestly the best way to deal with sunburn is prevention! Being from Florida, I have seen a lot of sunburns and they are not pretty! Luckily for me I am half cuban so I do not get burn't very often!

Some helpful tips . . .

1. Make sure you get sunscreen with at least a SPF rating of 30 . . . I use Coppertone Ultraguard which gives you a SPF of 70 and its spray on and it is moderately priced.

2. Be sure to put the sunscreen on at least 15-30 minutes BEFORE you go out into the sun. It takes time for the sunscreen to absorb into your skin and do its job effectively.

3. Reapply a layer of sunscreen every two hours or after every time you get out of the water (even if the sunscreen is "water proof"

4. Don't keep sunscreen for more than two years . . . it losses a of its effectiveness around that time.

5. Your face and shoulders will get burnt a lot faster than the rest of your body so be sure to give them extra attention . . . light hats and shirts are your friend!

6. Take a cool shower afterward and put on some aloe vera even if you don't think you got burnt . . . it usually takes a while to feel the full force of it!

I have no clue, as I've never had a sunburn (both a buyproduct of living in the Pacific Northwest and just having weird skin!).

But I will pray for you! Feel all better soon! =)

Come on Anthony. None of that does me any good while I'm watching my forehead peel off.

On another note, can aloe stop sunscreen from working? I used a good bit of it after the first day I got burned on my face and the morning of the next day, and combined with a hat and umbrella, I feel like I got even more burned.

And you thought Cowboys, Mexicans and Arabs wore hats, sombreros and towels just to look cool!
