THE BIBLE, Jesus says, "MOSES gave you this command BECAUSE your hearts were hard." The Bible says that God HATES the putting away. GOD HATES DIVORCE. Matthew 19:7-8 “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning." Mark 10:5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. “For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that He hateth putting away." (Malachi 2:16) I'm not so sure that God commands divorce. Post Reply

When the Bible speaks against marrying women that are divorced, shall we then promote marrying divorced women? Where does God command us to divorce? Where does HE command us to marry after divorce? And yet there are places he commands marriage (Exodus 22:16 and Deuteronomy 22:28-29) But who wants to follow those verses? Post Reply

Posted : 24 Jan, 2026 03:34 PM As it has been said Moses allowed divorce because of the hardness of hearts and that hasn't changed. It would appear in the new testament that divorce is still allowed. I'm torn on the subject because on the one hand it's allowed and on the other it's not. Would I marry a divorced woman? Absolutely not and that's because if her husband divorced her it's likely 100% her fault because no man in his right mind would divorce a good woman. Post Reply

Just because one can murder someone doesn't mean one should. And just because God allows us to marry or allows us to divorce doesn't mean we should. But there are places where he commands marriage. Posted : 24 Jan, 2026 04:17 PM In the case of Adam & Eve God was very clear that they were not to eat of the fruit of the tree of life. But now with marriage and divorce it's not so clear cut. I guess you could say the waters have been muddied. That said I'm against divorce but I see no reason for a man to be forced to stay married if the wife cheats. In my opinion a cheating wife ranks right up there with murder. Post Reply

Posted : 24 Jan, 2026 05:33 PM Yes, if a woman cheats on her husband that is justification for a man to divorce his wife. In as much as a man can divorce his wife for any and every reason, the Bible teaches against divorce. Of a woman divorcing her husband, the Bible teaches against that also. But under the Law of Moses, it is for the man to write his wife a certificate of divorce. It is not for government, and it is not for the wife to write her husband a certificate of divorce. The woman belongs to the man and is bound to the man. It is the man who initiates a divorce. The husband writes a certificate of divorce, hands it to his wife and sends her away from his house (Deuteronomy 24:1-4) without payment of money. (Exodus 21:11) That is what the scriptures say. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 1 If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, 2 and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man, 3 and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies, 4 then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the Lord. Do not bring sin upon the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance. But who goes by the scripture? Post Reply

David did not divorce his ten concubines that his son Absalom slept with for ALL ISRAEL TO SEE. And none of his wives divorced him after he committed adultery in having Bathsheba another man's wife. Do we want God to divorce us? Do we want to divorce Jesus and God? That would mean hell. We don't want to divorce him, and we don't want him to divorce us. Better to not marry in the first place. (Matthew 19:10, 1 Corinthians 7:1, Proverbs 31:10, Ecclesiastes 7:28) Post Reply
