So, one of the king's men named Bob, who was Humpty's best friend, became frustrated with another king's man named Jim. Jim was the doctor and he should have been able to put Humpty back together but he failed in his duty. Bob, seeing Jim's failure, thought to himself, "this lousy doctor Jim needs to die" So, Bob then drew his sword and cut off Jim's head. Now, it came to pass that when the king had heard these things, he become very angry. He called for Bob and demanded that Bob give an account of Jim's murder. Bob denied his action but after witnesses were called, Bob eventually confessed. In his anger, the king ordered that Bob be hung from the gallows of the same wall from which Humpty fell.
And so, it came to pass on the following morning that Bob was hung from the wall in front of the city and the whole town cheered the king's justice.
Now, let's see who was reading and paying attention with a set of simple question.
1. Why did Humpty Dumpty sit on a wall?
2. Why did Humpty Dumpty have a fall?
3. Who was responsible for Humpty's death?
4. Why was Bob angry with Jim?
5. Why did Bob think to himself that Jim needed to die?
6. Why did Bob murder Jim?
7. Is Bob a murderer? If so, why?
8. Who was responsible for Jim's death?
9. Why was the king angry when he heard of these events instead of being pleased with Bob for murdering Jim for his incompetence?
10. Why did Bob lie about his actions?
11. Why was Bob ultimately brough to justice by hanging?
12. Why did the town cheer and not mourn Bob's hanging?
I will return later to review your answers. :waving:
Humpty sat on the wall either because he failed to accurately estimate the risk of falling or because he ignored the sign that warned him no to sit on the wall. :stop: Ultimately he was arrogant and believed himself above the laws of the land or the laws of physics. :nahnah:
The fall was great because he had elevated himself to a level in which he was not equipped to deal with nor was he able to cope with the stress of maintaining his position. :goofball:
Humpty was responsible for his own death.
Bob was angry with Jim, because Jim didn't live up to Bob's expectations. He believed Jim to be a failure. :zzzz:
Well, when it comes to people we think are stupid and failures it never hurts to thin the herd. :dunce:
No, Bob is not a murderer. Murder is a crime of predetermined intent. Jim is a man slaughterer because his is a crime of passion not predetermined intent.
Bob is responsible for Jim's death. It could be argued that Humpty is responsible because if he hadn't been on the wall none of this would have happened.
The King was angry for two reason. Jim was the only doctor in town and the King had put him through med school. Either that or it had something to do with morality. Furthermore, only Bob thought that Jim was incompetent. The King did not seem to think so.
Did Bob lie? He denied the allegations which is ok in this case because his crime should have been proven by witnesses. He was just following protocol.
Because a man that commits an act of passion to the point that he takes a life, can't be trusted to be a sound contributor to a healthy society. It is imperative that he be taken out.
The town cheered because they thought Jim deserved to hang. :rocknroll: They did not mourn his death because they did not consider themselves as evil as Bob even though they all should probably hung for something.
I like this story. It seems that only Jim and the King were humble. Humpty, Bob and the towns folk elevated themselves to a place higher that they ought to have assumed. Humpty had a great fall, Bob lost his head and the crowd brought shame on themselves for thinking they were without sin. Jim is a silent witness to their insanity and the King did what was right by his law.
He was trying to avoid capture. Some ravenous men had killed his friend, Piggly Wiggly, and they were trying to murder him as well, all in the name of Breakfast.
2. Why did Humpty Dumpty have a fall?
Eggs don't sit well on narrow flat surfaces.
3. Who was responsible for Humpty's death?
Gravity? That's probably wrong...
4. Why was Bob angry with Jim?
Because He was upset that Humpty had been broken and that Jim could not repair him.
5. Why did Bob think to himself that Jim needed to die?
Even though Bob could not repair Humpty either, and had no real idea how to do it "correctly", he wanted Jim be punished for not doing it "correctly".
6. Why did Bob murder Jim?
Instead of thanking Jim for at least attempting to fix Humpty, which is something he couldn't even do, he decided to be the prosecutor, judge, and jury for Jim instead of leaving it up to the King.
7. Is Bob a murderer? If so, why?
Bob is definitely a murderer, he had premeditated reasons for wanting Jim dead.
8. Who was responsible for Jim's death?
Bob.
9. Why was the king angry when he heard of these events instead of being pleased with Bob for murdering Jim for his incompetence?
Because the King knew that all of his men had failed, and that none had fixed Humpty, but at least his faithful doctor had tried. He knew that Bob had acted arrogantly and hypocritically.
10. Why did Bob lie about his actions?
He realized that he was wrong and perhaps that his hopes of being praised for taking justice into his own hands were gone.
11. Why was Bob ultimately brought to justice by hanging?
The King had determined that the penalty for Bob's actions should be death.
12. Why did the town cheer and not mourn Bob's hanging?
I'm pretty sure they cheered the King's justice and not necessarily the hanging. Perhaps they did mourn Bob's death. That's just my interpretation of the text though, if they cheered his death they must have been pretty sick.
