What do you say when people mention homosexuality?

I used to be honest about my beliefs, but now I'm wondering whether it's worth hurting people, or if people really want to know.
I don't want to lose potential friends because of one thing I believe, but I don't want to lie to anyone.
What is your public and private stance on the subject? are you open and vulnerable about it? do you think it's important to raise the topic with people that aren't Christians, or it should stay an issue within the church? (as in, it doesn't matter what your sexuality is, your relationship with God is more important, and if you don't have one, then you have bigger things to worry about, and if you do call yourself a Christian, maybe you need to reevaluate your preferences)

Welcome to the boards!!
Homesexuality is sin . Period. We christians do know that.
It is unnatural.
Homosexuals already know what christians think about their sin!
Having said that:
Matthew 22:36-40
36 Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
37 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Christians are to always stand on the truth in love. We never waver but we do proclaim in love ,compassion and truth. Our fruit should be of gentleness and kindness when dealing with this topic. We can speak Gods truth into them without being harsh. The word itself divides. We pray that the Holy Spirit uses us for Gods glory.
Jesus came to set all captives free!
Homosexuals just need to hear from us that they can be set free from this sin. They just need to hear that we are praying for them. Jesus died on that cross and said "it is finished" for ALL sin. There is only one in this world to break the chains of bondage and that is Jesus Christ. They just need to hear that!!
In a way, it's simple: Show them the same love and respect that Christ would show them. Jesus is down on sin, but not down on sinners. All people have sin in their lives, but that doesn't mean they have less worth to God. So no matter what sin people are involved in, they're still worth God's love. I would treat your homosexual friends the same way you would treat heterosexual friends who are sexually active. You can show love to someone without approving of what they do.
Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
John 3:34
For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.
John 9:39
Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."
We need not treat them as lepers and ostrosize them but determine if they have a desire to change. Many homosexuals know they are sinning and that it is unnatural.
"From a Christian counseling perspective, there are three viewpoints that guide the counseling process: homosexuality as demonic oppression, as a conduct disorder and as an alternative lifestyle. "
Speak truth but in love, respect , and compassion. We need only speak it once and then pray against wrong thinking and pray they be delivered from the demonic oppression over their lives. Have these scriptures readily available to read to them if they are open to it:
(Romans 1:18-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 and 1 Timothy 1:9-11)
But the world knows us by our love.....
John 13:35
"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

What do you mean by it's ''unnatural''? some people are born gay, and it has been documented amongst other species. Maybe being natural or not being natural is not the problem. Other sins may be classified as natural as well (like the desire to steal) but it doesn't mean it's right or what God intended.

I googled ''conduct disorder'' and the results did not agree with homosexuality. I think it is unfair to put them under the same category.

Just because someone is a homosexual, does not mean that we cannot love him (or her) or pray for him (or her). Homosexuality is a sin and like any other sin, it needs to be laid at the cross and forsaken.
We Christians should pray for the salvation of the homosexual the same as we would for anyone else. This is not an issue of arrogance or judgmental. We don't want anyone to be lost due to their sin and that includes gays, lesbians, and transgenders.
The homosexual is still made in the image of God, even though he (or she) is in rebellion against Him. Therefore, we Christians should show homosexuals the same dignity as anyone else with whom we come in contact. Don't injure them. Don't hate them. Don't judge them. Inform them that freedom and forgiveness are found in Jesus. Let them know that God loves us and died for us so that we might be delivered from the consequences of our sin - which is eternal separation from God (Isaiah 59:2).
But, this does not mean that we are to approve of what they do. We are not to compromise our witness for a socially acceptable opinion that is void of rationality, godliness, and biblical truth. Instead, stand firm in the Word that God has revealed to us and patiently love him/her biblically and pray for their salvation. Be kind to them. Be loving. And, when appropriate, tell them the Gospel because forgiveness of our sins is found in Christ.

I say that Jesus saves from all sin, including homosexuality. The passage in 1 Cor 6 that so soundly condemns homosexuality (among other sins) ends with beautiful hope. Such *WERE* some of you, but ye are washed ... hallelujah!

Easy! Point them to Genesis1, v27 and 28 . This tells us the rthat God made man and his counterpart, women and v28 mentions part of the reason we have sexuality.( to reproduce , to have families)
Genesis 2 esp v 18 mentions another reason that man and woman are Gods intended purpose ,not homosexuality
and that is companionship ( which includes sexaulity in marriage obviously)which takes us back to chap 1:27,28
The woman was made from the man and when the man and woman marry they are one flesh ( v 24)
Ultimately they either believe it or they dont. Your part is to share the truth with them. God will do the rest.

I didnt finish it all, however you got my respect and admiration. Christians nowadays are so weak when dealing with this topic. I believe we are condescendent and not even call sin what is actually SIN...
Stay bless, our foundation is called Christ, Amen!

Romans 1:26-28King James Version (KJV)
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
