SEVENTH DAY OF REST
Posted : 8 Dec, 2025 07:58 AM

One thing mentioned in the Bible is "rest".

God created the world in six days and on the seventh day, he rested.

So, also, we are to rest.

Shabbat, or the Jewish Sabbath, is a day of rest and spiritual enrichment observed from Friday evening to Saturday evening, commemorating God's creation.

The Jewish people teach that the Day of Rest is from Friday sunset to Saturday nightfall.

What is to be THE HOLIEST DAY OF THE WEEK is often "the most sinful" for others who do not keep the Sabbath day.

The 7th Day Adventists teach the Seventh Day of Rest.

No where in the Bible does it command otherwise.

Some religions are right about somethings and wrong about others.

So, I think the 7th Day Adventists got it right in part about the Seventh Day. While other Christian faiths get it wrong about the Day of Rest.

We can't be right on everything.

But from creation of the world to the present day, how can we be sure which day is the seventh day?

People lose count. I often forget which day of the week it is.

God only knows with certainty.

People are often wrong. And on one side of the world, it is daytime and on the other side of the world, it is night time.

God only gets it right.

A dictionary says:

Shabbat (Hebrew: שַׁבָּת) is the Jewish day of rest, celebrated on the seventh day of the week, from just before sunset on Friday until nightfall on Saturday. It is a time for spiritual reflection, family gatherings, and abstaining from work, allowing individuals to focus on rest and worship. The term "Shabbat" derives from the Hebrew root meaning "to cease" or "to rest".

In the Old Testament, one thing punishable by death was working on the Sabbath.

In the New Testament, we are to enter a Sabbath Day of rest.

The disobedient do not enter that rest.

Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 speak of entering God's rest.

Worship God any and every day of the week you like. But the Seventh Day of Rest has not changed.

Meet with other Christians any day of the week you like. But the Day of Rest has not changed.

I often think that Christians like to do everything opposite of the Jews.

The Bible speaks of a 7th Day of Rest, but we observe the First Day, Sunday as the Day of Rest. That is like God rested The First Day.

The Jewish People celebrate THE PASSOVER; while Christians celebrate EASTER which is hardly Christian at all by its name.

The Bible says that Jesus is "the sacrificed lamb that was slain." But when remember the event of Jesus death and resurrection, we eat pig on easter. Jesus is not the Sacrificed Ham. Jesus cast demons into pigs. To eat pig is not kosher.

Point being, the Christianity is often the opposite of what is taught in the Bible.

🧐🤔

Well but there are approximately 40 time zones so which when do we keep the 7th Day Sabbath ❓❓ please keep in mind in the Old testament it was given to Israel

Also If breaking the Sabbath was punishable by death in the Old Testament (Exodus 31:14 & 35:2), why is it not condemned in any way, shape, or form in the New Testament? Various passages in the New Testament list numerous types of sinners who will not inherit the kingdom (see 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Timothy 1:9-10, and Revelation 21:8 & 22:15), but none of those lists ever mention Sabbath-breakers. Why is that ❓❓

Jesus is the "sacrificed lamb" not the "sacrificed ham".

While I do eat pig, I think lamb is better to remember Jesus' sacrifice.

Believers, Children of God Rest in Jesus Christ everyday, He alone is our Rest.

Its good to get teaching from those who are lead by Holy Spirit. That way you do not fall into things that are not Trueth of the Bible.

Seventh Day Advent Religion is not Truth. Christians can go to church on Any day of the week.

I did not see your reply right away, HC.

We are in a period of grace.

The Law shows us all to be lawbreakers and sinners deserving of death for one thing or another. Jesus ushered in a time of grace when he said, "Let he without sin be first to cast a stone." And Jesus being without sin, did not throw a stone. He did not come to condemn the world but to save it.

True, there are many time zones. And sunset Friday to night-time Saturday are at different clock times through out the world. But it is interesting how Christians discard a seventh day of rest with a Sunday day of rest.

VERY GOOD that Jesus be our rest, and very good that we rest everyday.

I don't think it is a sin that the Seventh Day Adventist treat the Sabbath as the Sabbath.

I did not realize that God got rid of the Fourth Commandment.

Is not "Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it HOLY" one of the Ten Commandments?

Did not Jesus say that anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called "least" in the Kingdom of Heaven, but he who keeps and teaches these commands will be called "great" in the kingdom of heaven. Did not Jesus say that?

When did God make "THE NINE COMMANDMENT"?

When did he DISCARD THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT? to remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy.

I'm confused. I did not realize that God got rid of that commandment. I wonder when he threw that one out?

I guess we should only recite nine commandments. God really didn't want us to have a day of rest. We are not to remember that God rested on the Seventh Day and made it HOLY. Is that what you are trying to say?

Why is the universal record of history (75-500AD) 100% in unanimous agreement that Christians never kept the Sabbath (7th day) and have always worshipped on Sunday ❓❓

The Didache

“But every Lord’s day . . . gather yourselves together and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned” (Didache 14 [A.D. 70]).

The Letter of Barnabas

“We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead” (Letter of Barnabas 15:6–8 [A.D. 74]).

Ignatius of Antioch

“[T]hose who were brought up in the ancient order of things [i.e. Jews] have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s day, on which also our life has sprung up again by him and by his death” (Letter to the Magnesians 8 [A.D. 110]).
