There seems to be a big opposition to traditions, which is righteously so, but somehow this has extended from traditional into what we do to honor our parents. I recently had a conversation with a nice guy on here about the subject and also read it on another man's profile.

Now, traditions of men is something you pick up willingly and substitute for the doctrine of the Lord, likewise we substitute our wordly fathers' beliefs for the Truth of the Bible. However, that same Bible says that we are to honor our parents, as it also says we must obey the laws of the land. Naturally, there is a limit to this, should either of those order that you may not believe in Christ or that you must say the unforgivable sin.

Still, aside from those, we are to honor and obey our parents and the government. (There is an order to that coupling as well.) This does not mean that the child is follows traditions over the Lord, but instead Christ should be praised for the obedient child of the parents because the child following the Lord's commandments.

Just as the believing wife makes herself an example unto her unbelieving husband so that he may see God's goodness through her, so should the child be an example unto the parent.
