You would think that this subject isnt needed in this day and time we live in yet a woman on here got scammed just day before yesterday,,,, for $3600.00

your answers might seem common sense to you but to them it may not be that way because they are trusting. Help us with you sujestions. .

1. Dont give anyone information regarding you bank account.

2. Do not give your social security # to anypne.

3. Don't help anyone who needs your money whatsoever!

4. Wow, this all seems to be common sense things but yet their scams must be working or i wouldnt have had five or six scammers since jan. Go figure,,,,

5. Christians are way to trusting,, the word says to be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.....

in other words,,,, THINK LIKE THE DEVIL... Woodrow Bruce

THAT'S EASY, WHEN YOU SEE THE WORD NIGERIA, INSTANTLY HANG UP AND DELETE, BLOCK, ERASE AS IN NOT OPEN FOR DISCUSSION.

THERE ARE FLAGS THAT WAVE BRIGHT. AMERICAN WITH INTERNATIONAL ORIGIN, NO FAMILY, USUALLY AN ONLY CHILD, NO CONTACTABLE FAMILY MEMBERS, OR ONE CHILD OUT OF THE COUNTRY STUDENT, SELF EMPLOYED IN NIGERIA, NO TRACEABLE ADDRESS. THE BIGGEST CLUE NO INFORMATION, FRIENDS, OR PHOTOS IN PROFILES, AS IN A NEW USER. THEN THE FINAL CLUE, THEY ARE INSTANTLY IN LOVE WITH YOU. THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT YOU, BUT THEY SEE THEMSELVES MARRIED TO YOU. BUT THEY HAVE LITTLE DIALOGUE, NO QUESTIONS TO YOU ABOUT YOU. THEY LET YOU DO ALL THE QUESTIONS AND TALKING. AT FIRST THEY CAN ONLY CONTACT YOU ABOUT 11:00 TO 12:00 PM C.T. THEN IN ABOUT A WEEK, THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLINE DURING THE DINNER HOURS C.T. AND WITHIN 10 DAYS TO TWO WEEKS WILL COME THE SAD STORY OF NO ONE ELSE TO HELP THEM. A PERSON WITH NO FRIENDS, NO FAMILY, NO PERSONAL INFORMATION SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING. THE BEST THING TO REMEMBER, IT'S NOT OPEN FOR DISCUSSION, HANG UP AND DELETE IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU MUST DIALOGUE SOMETHING, JUST REPLY, "I'LL NEED TO PRAY ABOUT IT." ALWAYS REMEMBER, SOME OF THE ONLINE FRIENDS COULD BE PLAYERS IN THE SCAM, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE CONTACTING YOU. HANG UP AND DELETE THEM ALSO. IF YOU ARE A RELATIVELY NEW USER, YOU ARE A PRIM TARGET.

WHEN YOU SEE THE WORD NIGERIA, REPLACE IT WITH THE WORD SATAN,

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE ROLL OF SATAN, CHANGE THE WORD TO RATTLESNAKE,

IF YOU ARE STILL HEAVENLY MINDED, LET ME HELP YOU, IT'S A 13 BUTTON RATTLER.

IF YOU STILL DIDN'T GET IT, GOD CAN NOT COMMUNICATE WITH YOU

IS THERE ANY PART OF THE WORD NO THAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND

SATANS SOLE PURPOSE IS TO ROB, KILL AND DESTROY.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT; HE'S HAD MORE EXPERIENCE AT IT THAN YOU HAVE

This happened to a lady on here this week,,, she told me she hopes it helps someone else!!!!! She is the reason for this post,,,, please dont judge her,,,,, you dont know where she was in her life that made her so Vulnerable.

God Bless,,,,,,,, Bruce.

His name was: Ray Thompson; he said that he had been on the Christian Dating website for 1 wk.. I turned his name in to the dating site.

He started out by talking about my past; he told me that he wanted to help me financially; he had called me "Dear" and "Sweetie"; he never gave much info. about himself; he somehow persuaded me that I needed to allow him to help me - with an unexpected bill I told him about; he asked a lot of questions about my child care center & I finally made it clear to him that I no longer had the center; he persuaded me to allow him to help me, so I foolishly gave him my bank acct. info.; he said that he needed the routing # and the acct. #, etc.; 2 days later, he said that he had an urgent need: he needed to wire some money to his daughter who he said was studying in England; he told me the entire time that he was a civil engineer and that he was in Spain working; I foolishly got a Western Union set up to wire $500 to the address that he gave to me; as soon as I got home and gave him the pick up #, he said that his daughter had an urgent need of $1,000 more!; I told him that Kroger was closed; he said "surely there's a store where you can go; I went over to Wal-Mart to get a Money Gram; he wanted the pick up # from the gram; he kept telling me how much he appreciated my help; 2 days later (this pastWed.) he told me that he was having a very hectic day and that he needed a new router for his computer; I asked him how much that one would cost; he said around $3,000; he told me that he really needed the router so that we could continue to chat; I told him that I had just enough left to cover my bills due next week; he asked me to check with the bank to see how much I had (he probably already knew); I told him that I would be running out of money; he promised to have the money to me next week in time to cover my bills; he said that he had $1,000; so I foolishly did one more Western Union wire for the $2,000; he said that he really appreciated it and asked for the pick up # - the money was wired to a business in England; yesterday (Thurs.) at 7:30 a.m., he sent a message to ask me what the address was on the receipt; I gave it to him and he said, just as he did throughout all of the chatting, how much he appreciated me; I received a phone call yesterday at 9:30 a.m. from my banking system - the fraud dept.- they asked me if I had wired some money to Nigeria - I told them that I wired some to England; they told me that I had been scammed. All of the money that I had was from a balance transfer from a credit card - needed to help me until I get disability. I GOT A CALL, AS I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, ON MY CELL PHONE THIS MORNING AT 9:30 A.M. - THERE WAS A NIGERIAN - SOUNDING PERSON TRYING TO TELL ME SOMETHING - AFTER ASKING SEVERAL TIMES, I UNDERSTOOD HIM TO SAY THAT RAY THOMPSON NEEDED ME TO GET ONLINE; I TOLD HIM THAT I COULD PROBABLY BE BACK HOME TO GET ONLINE AT 11:30 A.M.; I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE POLICE WITH ALL OF THE INFO YESTERDAY AND TODAY I TALKED WITH A DETECTIVE ABOUT IT; I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT WANT TO SEE IF THEY COULD TRACK THE NIGERIAN WHEN I GOT ONLINE; HE TOLD ME TO GET OFF THE YAHOO WEB SITE AND NOT GET ONLINE AGAIN; so, unless a miracle happens, I will have to "kiss the money good-bye".

I don't know if you needed all of this, but maybe you can get some ideas of how to warn others. I know that God will continue to provide for me. Maybe one day in the future, God might help us to meet.

I agree with levite about stereotyping all Nigerians as scammers for out of every tribe and tongue God has called us to be HIS BRIDE.

I am sorry for the experience the sister had and agree with her that God will provide for her. I pray that she isn't so deeply hurt that you fall into fear. Be wary yes but should we be surprised that evil people live in these end times. The righteous and the wicked shall be revealed more and more as the Day of the Lord aproaches.

Your action in trusting this person shows your character as a christian my sister, nevertheless don't let it make you bitter or angry for it after all only money. Peace be unto you and blessings.

Hi Levite,

I sympathise with how you feel but must say that i must agree with the feeling that scam seems to rhyme with Nigeria. I was also in the same situation. Shortly after joining a dating site, i was contacted by a guy calling himself Ted Brown. Claiming to be a US citizen. He was everything a woman would want in a man - good looking, good christian, caring, etc... then after we started chatting he told me of how he was "stuck" in Nigeria because his employer wasn't paying him. He wanted me to send him 800 dollars so he could get his ticket back to California. He told me to send the money via Western Union, then gave me a nigerian contact to send it to. I thought, why can't I send it to him. So i copied some of the text from the emails he had been sending me and it all led back to a website called lovingyou.com. that proved he was a scammer from Nigeria. On google, i found this website www.romancescams.org with hundreds of testimonies from both men and women who had had the same experience. Thank God i never sent the money!! So although I understand you are angry at the stereotyping, you must also admit that a good percentage of Nigerians devote a lot of time and energy scamming people! Go to that website and i encourage everyone who reads this message to do so. It has a lot of information on how to avoid being scammed by someone claiming to love you and cherish you for life. God bless you all.

Dating sites aren't the only place where scammers in Nigeria prey on. Another common venue for them is scamming people with animals for sale, cats/dogs/horses/birds, etc. Lately they are learning more about how to speak the language of animal sales and are getting more crafty, unfortunately not only are some people who sell pets getting scammed, but sometimes they've already shipped an animal before they realize it was a scam and the animal gets lost in the confusion, I've read stories about this happening.

I've never been scammed by them myself, but I have had countless replies when I've listed one of my dogs for stud services (ironically they've never figured out the idea of shipping AI semen...can always spot the scammer in this case because they're asking to buy the dog) Had a more sophisticated email lately though, I did post a dog for sale and I did exchange several emails with a person before they said they wanted to buy the dog but they would send the money order and later have their agent pick the dog up...oh...and they are putting extra money on the money order, would I send it back to them? I investigated the email and it did turn out to be outside of the USA, didn't look to see from what country though.

On another note, I have friends who are from Nigeria, very nice people, they're definitely not scammers so it's nice to know first hand that the whole country isn't like that.

Now...I wonder, are all Somalians pirates?

Just Kidding.
