"Women and Bikinis"

Recently, I had the audacity to send a lady on this site an email after noticing that she had just posted a picture of herself in a bikini. I will not argue the fact that the picture was very alluring, but something else bothered me. Why would a beautiful woman who claims to be a Born Again Christian display her body in such a manner on the internet for all the world to see?

I'm sorry, I find it offensive that a Christian woman who is looking for a husband would display her body in such a manner. I certainly would not want my future wife advertising herself this way. "As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion" (Proverbs 11:22).

Yet judging by her angry letter, perhaps I was wrong and the woman was right: "Not my fault men like you can't get past their own flesh."

So lets have your views ladies and gents on the subject of "Women and Bikinis" on a Christian dating site.

Blessings in Christ,

Paul

Below is my letter to her:

************************************************************************

You are a beautiful lady, but you have diminished your beauty with the display of your bathing suit picture. It contradicts everything in your profile: "As for me and my house we shall serve the Lord"

"that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel...which is proper for women professing godliness" (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

Blessings,

Paul

************************************************************************

Her response:

************************************************************************

Then don't view my profile

U R 20 years older than me U R way 2 old

Why would you even think of clicking onto my beach shot

Please with the holier than thou

Do U really think women read your blah blah blah novel profile

A whole lot of ridiculous nothing

No one would ever finish that in one sitting nor would want 2

Boring!

U R not clever or righteous by any means

Cast your stone somewhere else idiot truck driver & film maker

That is laughable

There is a reason U R single

I advise U get a dog for companionship

nothing worse than a jerk who spills out scripture with a bunch of nonsense and stupid icons

I am listed on more favorite lists than any other woman here

Perhaps it is your own lustful thoughts Exam your own perverted thoughts and convict yourself

God made my body and I work hard to maintain my good health

Only a man like you can take that and twist it into something impure

Repent and do not view my profile again

Do not respond

I am not interested in your foolishness

A true man of GOD can view my profile and find beauty only

Your thoughts go past my intent

You are disgusting for thinking such things of my pic

I do serve the lord and I spend a lot of time on that very beach with my pocket bible.

Not my fault men like you can't get past their own flesh

I would have to cover up so U don't get excited

That is your sin not mine fool

Again Exam your impure thought to a peaceful shot of me at the beach DON"T pervert an innocent pic

That is your mind not mine or real men of Christ

No other man on this site made your comment

The problem lies in your lustful eye So U R the Hypocrite

Best you gauge it out as scripture instructs so U can enter heaven

Good Luck I'm glad all the obese women who wear turtlenecks have a shot with you

HA I bet U would Never date an overweight girl

So Again Who's the HYPOCRITE

U

Don't look at my profile or pics "MY DEAR"

Move onto Large unattractive women who contact U b/c God told them 2 U cannot turn down a woman if she emails U even if U find her not appealing Make sure U listen to GOD now and date them Being that U only want a good heart yeh right!

Make sure U don't go to the beach U might end up in hell for having such perversion in your heart

Repent Quickly Repent Hypocrite

"Not my fault men like you can't get past their own flesh."

I got so worked up when I read that. While I have to agree that it is not entirely a womans job to keep mens eyes from wandering, there is such a thing as asking for it. People say not to judge a book by its cover, but clearly we are called to not seek out attention, which a bikini photo on a dating site does. Like TwoSparrows said, her reply says much more about her than the picture does, and they both confirm the same statement. She is shallow, and so she is appealing to other peoples shallow-ness.

I do kind of agree with dgr about women counseling women and men counseling men, but if I were to write to her on that subject, I would get just as much flack. I have seen discussions in the forum of women discussing makeup and dress, and instead of punching in the gut like she did to you, it is pulling of hair and scratching of faces. If somebody is foolish enough to post a picture of herself in her bathing suit and not expect people to question it, then she is not the type to take criticism or instruction.

There are so many times when I see pictures on this site and I really wish I could just write to them and say Hey, you are either in the wrong place or do not realize what you are doing. A lot of women, usually younger more nave ones like myself, just dress the way their secular peers do and do not think of what they are doing to other believers. Some women think little of themselves and believe that their bodies and sexuality are all they have to lure men. Either way, they are very delicate people and hard to talk to. Just recently I saw a makeover show where the consultants were gently trying to tell this woman how harmful her dress was, and she stormed off the set in tears because they were being so mean to her. In the case of the bikini girl, her problem was one of pride and wanting to do what she wanted. If she is weirded out by older men seeing her in her bathing suit, she shouldnt be posting it for all to see!

Its really hard for me to be nice when she was so full of venom in her response

I am listed on more favorite lists than any other woman here

Pride, pride, pride, pride, pride.

Disgusting.

She knew what she was doing, she just has too much pride to want to see her fault, so guess what? She's going to try to make it look like it's all your fault.

I agree with what Siylii said.

I also agree that it is really a woman's place to counsel another woman about her clothing, but who knows...maybe her response was so, er, interesting because you made her take a good look at herself. Perhaps she didn't like the way it made her felt, so she retaliated. And just maybe she will think long and hard about her clothing and appearance, and how it might cause others to stumble even if they try to avert their eyes and avoid pictures like hers.

Thank-you ladies for your insightful comments:

Riveroflife..."angry much?".... Yes I would have loved to respond to her letter, but she "blocked" that opportunity.

Siylii..."But if I were to write her on that subject, I would get just as much flack."... You're probably right.

bcpianogal..."And just maybe she will think long and hard about her clothing appearance."....I sincerely hope so.

Blessings,

Paul

Really- I was giving you the opposing view to see the flip side. I am careful how I address young ladies. As I do not know you and reread your post maybe you were right in your short letter to her. God Bless you my friend and pray for the young lady.

Truthslinger- I do not understand your statement. Did God tell you that only 50% here are saved? Are you the judge?

I never read a post here that attacked the forum writer.

Advice was offered, different opinions. You seem to make judgements with out all the facts.

dgrimater ...Thank-you Dennis for your clarification. I was not surprised at the angry lady's response. Whether I had been a young man or woman would probably not have made much of a difference. I had a similar response two years ago from a lady who was my age.

And one should note that this lady put her picture up on this dating site for men to look at, not for women to view. And though it is preferable for a woman to counsel her, it is highly unlikely that any woman would be aware of what pictures she had posted.

I certainly recommend Siylii's entire post for interested readers. It's full of wisdom.

Mr. TwoSparrows...LOL funny. :yay:

Paul

Well, mater, I'm a fruit inspector. We judge trees by their fruit. If the majority of females, smoke, drink, and dress provocatively, how should they be viewed? As being saved representatives of Jesus???

1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I never attacked the gentleman who created this post. I'm agreeing w/ him.

Me thinks I hit a nerve and you read what you wanted into my comment.

BTW, Christians are commanded to judge.

If nothing else, that girl who posed in her bikini is letting us know who she really is: I would rather her be upfront with her immodesty than try to pretend she is something she is not. It is clear by her message (and the mentioning of her profile saying the "as for me and my house" bit) that she simply knows enough about Christianity to know popular phrases and buzzwords, but does not know much about BEING a Christian woman.

Ok, I really did not want to bring this up so I could keep it a private matter, but I feel moved to share it with the rest of you:

The other day, not long after reading this thread for the first time, I came across a young "lady" whose profile contained a picture of herself where a part of her -THAT CANNOT EVEN BE WRITTEN IN THE FORUMS WITHOUT BEING CENSORED- was revealed in a pornographic way. I am not kidding or exaggerating, I asked another person to look and clarify for me because I could not believe my eyes. I reported her picture, and while the picture is now gone, she is still a member on this site.

BE DISCRIMINATING OF PEOPLE'S PICTURES. We are sometimes told not to judge a book by its cover, but it is nothing but foolishness to think that somebody is something other than what they are advertising themselves to be! Her other pictures are harmless enough, just a heavily made-up young lady in tight clothing who, while not being in a bathing suit, is clearly 'trying' in her pictures. Modesty is more than covering nakedness, and immodesty is easy to spot. The pouty, affected facial expressions and poses of women (and men!) on this site are not usually very subtle. Beware of people who look so "done up": they are valuing the outside, often in preference to the inside.

The administrators on this site are not here to protect us, as is clear by this "woman"'s remaining on the site. It is up to us to protect ourselves from wolves in sheeps' clothing... or lack thereof.
