So honestly, how do you view the words "help mate"?

How does it make you feel to be considered a help mate?

Do you consider this your role in a marriage?

Or is this a demeaning term to you?

I wonder if anyone will answer?

...River...sometimes I agree with that...

So honestly, how do you view the words "help mate"?

*** I read in my Bible a Help Meet...no matter the translation I believe this be a Helper to help the man Meet his Obligations & Duties as the Head of the Home & Other assistance...

How does it make you feel to be considered a help mate?

*** Since I beleive God's word...It makes me "Feel"...needed...and in that need...appreciated...

Do you consider this your role in a marriage?

*** Yes !!!...God created He Him Them...He created them as equals...partners...do be with...do do with...to live with...

Or is this a demeaning term to you?

*** Not at all...what can be demeaning is the manner in which a man perceives and institutes his soverinty in the marriage...meaning when he puts his needs & him self first instead of God & then his Help Meet, Children...etc...xo

Two, happy to see you're back!

I don't dig the term help mate. It sounds prehistoric. I'd rather just be called a helper. or a wife. lol

I don't find it demeaning, I mean I see as the I help the man in what he needs help in. I'm there for support to him.

personally: I Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

however, to me it would mean my man saw me as an equal partner in our relationship, as well as whatever we were doing for the Lord

Wow! Am I ever impressed! So many great and Godly answers and only one used the opportunity to turn it around and make it a dig at men, to be fair; perhaps it was her individual bad experience. But wow I really did not expect the quantity and especially the quality of answers....maybe I have had to many bad individual experiences....Lol!....looking for love in all the wrong places!

Thanks for the great answers!

oh...if your referring to me, I wasnt trying to "upper cut" anyone.

My husband preached and I was definitely his help mate.

As time went on, I got invited to preach and teach at different things and the more I accepted, the more he didnt like it. He said I was operating outside my God given role and not being attentive to what God called him to do.

just a little FYI

For me, mate is kind of a relationship like classmate, roommate, etc. and specifying it as help mate the relationship is identified as helping each other, not just one helping the other but each other.

It makes me feel cared and loved being considered a help mate ...by helping someone and getting help in return. Sometimes just someone's presence in our life is already a big help, just the feel that she/he is there for me...endless ways to be of help or be someone's help, sometimes just shutting up is already a big help lol! Well, in my family, in my relationship with my daughters, I think there is that help mates role we feel with each other.

If being help mates is not the role of marriage partners, what is it ? In marriage there is that ingredient of intimacy in the help mate relationship, the partnerts are then supposed to be transparent with each other, just like our intimate relationship with God in which we know we could hide nothing.

I don't find it demeaning at all. It's exactly the way God intended. ------------------ BTW-- MercyMay, it's good to see you back.
