Atheists and even some Christians insist real contradictions exist in the Bible. So, is it true the Bible contradicts itself?
Let’s take a look at an alleged contradiction and see if it qualifies. Matthew 27:27-28 says the color of the robe placed on Jesus just prior to his crusifiction was scarlet but Mark 15 says it was purple. Some atheists believe this qualifies as a contradiction. Are they right?
This can be a challenging exercise but learn to welcome them. Finding answers can be rewarding. Don’t let atheists discourage you.
I remember working a few logic puzzles and I’m sure some of you do as well. Some of the apparent contradictions seemed insurmountable UNTIL we read the answer. When we discovered the answer was quit simple we wondered why it was seemed so difficult.
In order for a metal to sharpen another metal it need to be harder. Metal has to be removed to be sharpen. When you use two metals of the same hardness they rub off and create friction witch dulls down the metal. A interesting thing to look up is the file test used in to test treatment of knifes.
Most files are between 60-70 HRC if I recall. And a good knife is far harder after a quenching in water. The file will slide right off the knife without digging into it or scratching it.
But no the proverb is right, its just today we call harder irons steel today.
Question: "What does it mean that iron sharpens iron?"
Answer: The phrase iron sharpens iron is found in Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. There is mutual benefit in the rubbing of two iron blades together; the edges become sharper, making the knives more efficient in their task to cut and slice. Likewise, the Word of God is a double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and it is with this that we are to sharpen one anotherin times of meeting, fellowship, or any other interaction.
The whole test of life is if we by wicked mind choose wickedness, which is choosing man instead of God. Evil teachers advise this way, pretending they speak for God, but search their opinions and you see them only supporting man, and they deny the Lord this way.
Cursed be the man that trusts in man and promotes man..
Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.
Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and has hope and righteousness attained to God only,(never to man instead as they say here)...
Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Of course the true answer is contained in the Proverb chapter itself. What is good for the heart of man? When your friend gives you hearty counsel. Who is our friend and counsellor?
Proverbs 27:9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
Who is it that sharpens our face through His counsel? Who is complete and is shaping and fashioning and sharpening us to be like Himself?
Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
You can attribute it all to man giving advices if you prefer that sort of low opinion, or you can know the Lord is all things and it is His counsel you need to hear, to be sharpened by, but it is the Lords counsel that will stand..
Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
Psalm 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
Psalm 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Of course the friend that sticks closer than a brother is Christ. This is the true sharpener, the only counselor, the only to mention, never to uphold teachers when they are false these days, but the false teacher also wants you to hear teachers as they are double minded.
Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
The iron always was Christ, breaking all as He is a rod of iron, ruling over all as iron, and man is potters clay, but if He wants us to not be ground to powder, we know we acknowledge Christ truly and only Him so we be sharpened by Him, others clearly have their sharpening by men and themselves instead of Christs sharp sword..
Psalm 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Revelation 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
Revelation 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
I’m not sure what you mean by “no contradictions in the Greek”. Do you have a specific text in mind?
I’m asking because there are over 5,800 complete or fragmented Greek manuscripts that are catalogued and some with scribal errors. But variance amounts to only 7% not affecting any major teaching.
David, i do know that. The text i posted is John 15 verses 1-2. The english translations contradict the revealed character of GOD Almighty, and they contradict Romans 8 v 1
I agree knowledge of original languages and translation history can’t be over emphasized. There are more resources today than at any time in history to aquaint believers with original languages.
**THE TOPIC IS THE INTERPRETATION OF THE FOLLOWING WORDS OF GOD**:
John 15:1-3: Jesus says, "I am the True Vine, and My Father is the gardener. He **CUTS OFF** (OR TAKES AWAY} every branch in Me that bears **NO FRUIT**, while every branch that does **BEAR FRUIT** He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You {**WHO BEAR FRUIT**} are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you!"
John 15:16: Jesus says, You did not choose Me, but I **CHOSE YOU**and appointed you so that you might bear **FRUIT**--**FRUIT** that will last!!
Adam7777 believes that if you even commit one sin or don't bear any fruit that you will **LOSE YOUR SALVATION**??
While prophetic7744 believes that those who **FALL AWAY** and never produce any **FRUIT** were never saved in the first place and are **CUT OFF**!!
While gracenotworkssaves believes that those who profess to be saved and **FALL AWAY** should not be **CUT OFF**??
Matthew 13:20-23: Jesus says, "The seed falling on the rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it **UNFRUITFUL**. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hear the and understands it. this is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown!!"
Ephesians 2:8,9: For it is by **GRACE** you have been saved, through **FAITH**and this **NOT FROM YOURSELVES**, it is the **GIFT OF GOD**not by works. So that no one can boast. For we are **GOD'S WORKMANSHIP**, created in Christ Jesus to do **GOOD WORKS**, which God prepared in advance for us to do!
Revelation 17:14: They will make war against the **LAMB** but the **LAMB** will overcome them because He is **LORD** of lords and **KING** of kings and with Him will be His **CALLED** **CHOSEN** and **FAITHFUL** followers!! {Riding on white horses right after the Marriage Feast of the **LAMB** as per Revelation 19:7-20!}
And so those who are **CALLED** **CHOSEN and **FAITHFUL** produce **MUCH FRUIT**!! And those who are not **CALLED** CHOSEN** AND **FAITHFUL** will **FALL AWAY and **BE CUT OFF**!!
