Transubstatiation is a complete lie and impossibility and can easily be disproven by anyone that has two eyes and two brain cells that aren't fighting for third place. I had to look up the word consubstantiation, because I'd never heard it before. I don't think that the Lord's Supper, i.e the communion of the saints, can be narrowly defined in that term.
When I was a newborn in Christ, I attended a congregation of members of a US-26-501 (c)3 Not-For-Prophet corporation. Because they had the word "church" in their business name, I thought it was God's church that we read about in God's words.
It didn't take long before I began to see that the executive officers of the Not-For-Prophet corporation had an agenda which was not to follow scripture and that they taught things that are against what God teaches in his words. One of those things was the "communion."
Jesus said that he is the bread that came down from heaven; and that unless we eat of his flesh and drink of his blood, we have no part in him.
Paul further revealed that we, being many, are one bread and partakers of one body.
Matthew 26:26-28 "As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
John 6: "For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."
The sound, biblical truth about the "Lord's Supper" is much more than a "study" or a "teaching" it is the very life that we've been given in Christ! It follows us receiving his gift of eternal life and receiving his Spirit in us.
The communion of the saints with the Lord in "the Lord's Supper" is so much more than I've ever heard any preacher talk about. It has to do with Jesus being the bread of life, coming down from heaven to do the will of the Father and give us eternal life and through his sacrifice he allows us to partake of his body and blood through the forgiveness of our sins and by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, sent from God to teach us all things that we may spread the everlasting gospel to offer salvation to the lost! And we may join him in persecution and death and also be raised up again to ever be with him!
The church, which is persecuted (all who will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution) for doing the will of the Father, in preaching the gospel and offering eternal life, gathered together in houses and partook of the bread and the wine with joyfullness and gladness of heart Acts 2:46, 1 Corinthians 11
This was to be the fellowship "communion" of the saints with Jesus Christ (Where two or three are gathered) and only those that have his Spirit and do the will of the father are worthy to eat and to drink because that is what brings upon us persecution, yet also delivers eternal life to the world.
Luther taught that Jesus is "with" the bread and "with" the wine. "Consubstantiation" means that Jesus is with the bread and with the wine.
The vowel "is" is not present in the Greek form. We add the "is".
Jesus said, "THIS, MY BODY." "THIS, MY BLOOD."
The word "is" is added.
The word "represents" could as easily be added.
"THIS, MY BODY." "THIS, MY BLOOD."
"This (is) my body." "This (is) my blood."
"This (represents) my body." "This (represents) my blood."
"This (symbolizes) my body." "This (symbolizes) my blood."
Jesus just said, "THIS, MY BODY." "THIS, MY BLOOD."
People like to add the word "is" when translating.
I like to think of the Lord's Supper as a remembrance.
"This do in 'REMEMBERANCE' of me." Jesus instructs us. (Luke 22:19)
I like to think that the bread and wine are more than symbols.
I think Jesus is with the bread and with the wine.
The bread and wine are consecrated.
The bread and wine are HOLY.
I have not arrived to the view of "Transubstantiation".
In Catholic periodicals and newsletters I have read, most Catholics don't even believe that the bread and wine are the "actual" body and blood of Jesus. So, that is a challenge the Catholic church faces. It is a central teaching of the Catholic church and more than half of Catholics don't believe it. That the wine is "really" the blood of Jesus and that the bread is "really" the body of Jesus. That it is THE REAL BODY and THE REAL BLOOD of Jesus! But I believe Jesus is "with" the bread and "with" the wine, and that the bread and wine are HOLY.
That it is THE REAL BODY and THE REAL BLOOD of Jesus is HARD TO SWALLOW.
Yet, Jesus does say in John 6:50-66 things that are hard to swallow.
53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
Jesus lost a lot of followers that day when he began to talk that way.
