A young couple, married 2 years, have 1 baby.

He went to the war.

One day he was killed (as everybody thought, and it was an official report, funeral etc.)

In about 1 year his wife, as a widow, got marry again, and in 1 year after her wedding this man was found alive!

He came back home, and he want to live with his WIFE, which is already married with another man, because officially she was a widow.

What to do is this situation?

Whose wife is this woman?

I Cor 7

39 A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. 40 In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she isand I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

She mourned his death. She renewed her vows with another man. She must keep the vows she has spoken.

See also Matt 22

That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24Teacher, they said, Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27Finally, the woman died. 28Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?

Is this question real or hypothetical? If real, I am truly sorry for the first husband, though I would consider him free of his vows and free to remarry as a widower.

29Jesus replied, You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31But about the resurrection of the deadhave you not read what God said to you, 32I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacobb ? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.

Great question, truth is I dont know what he would of said but I know one thing Jesus's advice would of been bang on the money. His words would of bought love into the situation and the best outcome for all parties. End of the day we all have free choice. And all things work out for the best for those in Christ Jesus.

My wisdom isnt as great as Jesus's though but here is a thought.

I believe there is no true right answer all outcomes someone is hurt. Whatever choice they make Gods gotta pick up the pieces. Grace is over them no matter what way they head.

That said, Husbands are to love their wives as they love themselves. If the wife moved on and is in love , then the war hero should walk away because he loves her and only wants the best for her no matter how much it hurts. Go to God, crying out with honesty and healing will come. I think Jesus would of said dont be selfish, love her and forgive her. I will be your strength, I will be your peace, I will be your healing. Now lets go fishing, I know this great place, come follow me.

GammaGM and Add50 thank you for your comments!

I think, she still belongs to her husband, first husband, so second vows are canceled due to presence of alive first husband - and first vows. I am sure, no one would judge her for her choice.

And from another side - if to try to feel, what her alive husband feels... i am sure, he want his family back. And he has rights for that. All those days and nights he was dreaming to come back home and hug HIS wife and baby.

Jesus didn't go for hypotheticals, and tended to not give a direct response to them. If someone actually faces that situation, James says, If any lack wisdom, let them ask of God, but without doubting, and He will lead that person to the truth. James 1 As to what the law may require from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, as to what is a reasonable time to wait, etc, the hasty judgment of people to claim a death in the absence of the corpus delicti does not normally automatically mean sufficient proof. There is normally a 5 - 7 year waiting period, and in a few places, longer, before the courts will declare someone dead. This would have averted the dilemma so that the second marriage never occurred. Haste makes waste, as they say, and sometimes worse. My instinct is to suggest that the alleged widow failed to consult with the Lord, as He would not have given His approval, knowing that the man was alive.

It's a tragic situation, but the remarriage was in good faith and is valid. The husband who was believed deceased is, of course, free to remarry.

Deuteronomy 24:4 doesn't exactly apply, but is somewhat similar. Also 1 Corinthians 7:27 .... in messed us situations, Paul instructed people to stay in the present situation instead of tangle things up further.

Mistaken belief is not a basis for disregarding the truth of God's word. The woman's husband was alive the whole time. The attempt to marry another man was an illegal marriage and should be set aside.

As they say in the law, tough cases make bad law. You want to be sympathetic, but you cannot alter what is right simply because you feel sorry for people, when the remedy is sinful. It robs the justice of God when you do.

"My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." James 3:1
