pied-a-terre means a secondary residence, but when I hear the word "pied" I think of the pied piper of Hamelin

-New York passes Mamdani’s pied-a-terre tax. Here’s who pays and how much-

Yes, I have been paying a secondary residency tax.

New York is not the only state doing that.

My tax is double on the secondary residency.

How ridiculous?

No electricity and no running water and I'm being charged near 2,000 USD a year on property tax.

They invent legal channels to steal money.

Wow! Half of what I typed disappeared.

Anyway, I ate in a restaurant today.

They got rid of a long-standing promo which they no longer do. But what surprised me is on the receipt they included what they called a "Universal Charge". So, in addition to paying taxes, we paid a "Universal Charge" of $1.21.

They invent ways to take money.
