Was David's sin having more than one wife or was his sin having someone else's wife?
THE WORDS OF THE LORD: 2 Samuel 12:7-9
7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 9 Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

Paul thought it was better to have no wife. (1 Corinthians chapter 7)
He thought that way you could more fully serve THE LORD.
Jesus repeated similar thoughts Matthew 19:12, but becoming a eunuch isn't for everyone. Some may get a better resurrection out of the deal. (Isaiah 56:3-5)
Isaiah 56:3-5
3 Let no foreigner who is bound to the Lord say,
“The Lord will surely exclude me from his people.”
And let no eunuch complain,
“I am only a dry tree.”
4 For this is what the Lord says:
“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose what pleases me
and hold fast to my covenant—
5 to them I will give within my temple and its walls
a memorial and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that will endure forever.
Matthew 19:12
"For there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother’s womb, and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.”
Revelation 14:4
These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.

I think everyone would probably agree David sinned with taking Uriahs wife including David himself.
As Far as multiple wives. God had the opportunity and capability to create more than one wife for Adam but in his perfect world(before the fall) he chose to give him just one and said it is very good. So its fair to say Gods perfect plan is one man one woman.
Adam also said when he only knew good, before the fall, that the 2 shall become 1 flesh. Not 3 become one or 4 become one but just 2 and is repeated in the new testament by both Jesus and Paul.
Now people will point to the old testament saying David, Solomon etc. had more than one wife but we also know that God allowed divorce back then and not because he wanted it, or it was his plan/will for mankind but because of the hardness of their hearts.
Fast forward to the new testament and all the disciples, apostles, elders and Jesus own brothers who were married would have only one wife.
Jesus himself is coming for ONE bride, the church.
Ephesians 5: 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her...huband/wife ..Christ/Church ..Gave himself for her(singular)
Ephesians 5: 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish....her(singular) she(singular)
Rev 19: 7 for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”...wife (singular)..herself{singular)
2 Cor 11: 2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.....a letter to the church containing many people being one body, referring to them as "a"(singular) chaste "virgin"(singular)
1 Cor 12:12-14 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many....One body, many members= one body(the church), one bride
Titus 1:6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God,
1 Tim 3:1-2 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate..... note the first thing he states after being blameless in both passages is the husband of one wife.
1 Cor 9:5 5 Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?...wife(singular) so the other apostles, brothers of Jesus if married and Peter (Cephus) all had only one wife.
Now the early church may have had some members with more than one wife but that's because before becoming Christ followers they lived under mosaic law given to a hard hearted people. The church itself though obviously believed in one man one woman as shown in those scriptures and modelled by the apostles, brothers of Jesus, Peter and all the elders of the church given you couldn't be an elder with more than one wife, and of course modelled by Christ himself who is coming for ONE bride(the church).
So polygamy was never Gods plan as shown in creation of one man one woman and it is not endorsed by the early church fathers or by Christ himself as shown not only by polygamists not being allowed to be elders, but also buy the lives of the apostles etc. having only one wife, and by the fact that Christ himself has ONE bride, the church.
So as Christ followers should we seek to live with hard hearts and seek polygamy as in the old testament, or should we be seeking to follow Christ's example and that of the apostles, Elders, Brothers of Christ and Peter by seeking to live as God intended and designed. One man One woman, or bride in Christs case

Cuzzie, the Bible also says that we are one with whomever we have sex with.
"Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” (1 Corinthians 6:16)
It is not a very monogamous world.
But in the Bible, women are to be monogamous, and only church leaders are to be the husband of but one wife.
"I AM TH E GOD OF ABRAHAM, THE GOD OF ISAAC, THE GOD OF JACOB." Two of them had more than one wife.
The People of God, ONE man had 12 sons through 4 women. Thus the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 disciples, the 12 apostles, the 12 gates of heaven, the 12 foundations of heaven, the 12 thrones with Christ -- ALL RELATED to ONE man having 12 sons through 4 women. Solomon had 700 hundred wives of noble birth and 300 concubines. Our king Jesus is GREATER than Solomon. The harem of Christ is even greater than the harem of Solomon.

Fast forward to the New Testament, "THE BODY" has many parts.
Not all the Apostles had wives. Certainly Peter had a wife because he had a "mother-in-law". Paul chose not to marry, and he encouraged others to follow him in doing the same. The idea was that an unmarried person could better serve Christ and more fully serve Christ without having interests divided. But why lay this down as a rule for the churches concerning church leaders if each person only always just had one wife? But Paul lays it down as a rule for the churches because not everyone just had one wife and Paul wanted leaders in the church to be like him.
